Cool video. I'm new to your channel. I've only seen a few of your videos. In one of them, you mentioned that you work in the mental health field. I do also. I was wondering what sort of work you do and if your work is the reason why you wear a mask in your videos. I've worked as a therapist with incarcerated youth, a homeless outreach worker, case manager, and currently I work for a crisis hotline. I have a masters in mental health counseling. I'm also a person with SMI.
If you dont rob a little caesars on a regular basis, are you even a real metal fan? Pizza thrash and crust punk are the only music that matters!

Metal subgenres don’t really die, they just enter and leave the spotlight occasionally. And I’m still floored by how Voivod made one of their best albums, if not THE best, this late in their career. Most legacy bands have fallen off by now, but these guys are still going strong. Kreator and Megadeth also had pretty good releases this year.

Voivod is just insane. Saw them a few years back just after releasing "The Wake" with Revocation at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma. They fully matched the energy of the teenaged crowd. It was also cool seeing all these highschoolers raging for the old guard.

Synchro Anarchy is amazing. Voivod is one of those bands where 80%-90% of their catalog is almost perfect.
High Command - Eclipse of the Dual Moons is a must listen. I'm not a big thrash fan but this is just done so well and has no cheese/cringe. Would love to know your thoughts on the album.

Thank you so much for making a thrash-video of this year. Kinda have the feeling that thrash is often overlooked in the metal-youtube-world, but as a die hard thrash fan i have to say that 2022 was a bad year, at least for me. Didn't get a full banger of a record but i was happy to dig a bit deeper in the death and doom genres.

Voivod has been in my top 5 favourite releases of 2022 from the moment I heard it. I'm also really pleased that you've highlighted Vorbid (that album is truly amazing) and Sadistic Ritual is great as well!
Thrash is definitely not dead, if anything, there’s been a huge resurgence for the last 6-7 years.
Unpopular opinion but I really liked Pavlov's Dawgs by Tankard, I thought the album cover was hilarious and creative and I like how it ties in with the title track on the album. I also thought that Exfluencer wasn't all that bad in the lyrical department, especially when you consider that it's Tankard writing it, and I like how Diary of A Nihilist takes a different perspective on religion compared to your typical anti-christianity thrash songs. Btw I also can't wait to hear you review Demolition Hammer, Sadus, and Dark Angel in 2023 🤘 Edit: No mention of Protector's new album? 🥺
@dalime605

Protector's album slays 🤘🤘
Deathwestern by Spiritworld was incredible Power Trip-esque crossover thrash this year and is my thrash AOTY because I consider Voivod more prog metal
1:21 it's always cringe when artists mention a social media platform. That immediately dates your material and should something reserved for the most lame of mainstream pop stars.
Glad to see Crisix on the list, one of the best Spanish thrash bands besides Ángelus Apátrida
I’m checking out that Sadistic Ritual album and I’m so pissed I only found out about it now. Slaps so hard
This is an EP but people should really check out Fugitive - Maniac, insanely cool riffs and sound, I believe one member from Power Trip plays on this.
Midnight has been my number 2 on Spotify the last few years. Number 1 is Acid Witch but Midnight is just raw and basic I love it
I wasn't into Midnight until I saw them live. Incredible live act and it puts their studio work in a better context.

I've seen them live several times and they never disappoint, but I just can't get into their studio material.
Good collection of albums here. Destruction was probably my biggest surprise of the year as I really wasn't expecting much. As for albums I think you might dig, I'd nominate: Protector - Excessive Outburst Of Depravity Hatriot - The Vale Of Shadows Cheers!
saw Destruction with Nervosa, who both slayed, and Municipal Waste possibly this Saturday, and with thrash being my favorite genre, I'm sooooooo hyped

Nervosa used to have the sexiest front woman ever.
My favourite thrash album this year (which was actually half thrash and half trad metal) was Reckoning by the band Hell Fire. I forgot about that Sadistic Ritual album; yeah, that album was awesome, too!
Knew you weren't an Accuser of the Brethren! Loved Toxik's album Dis Morta as well - one of my favorites of 2022. Hoping you do a few more best of genres for 2022 - would love to hear your MDM picks. Can't wait for 2023 and Enslaved and Insomnium's new albums. 🤘
Agree with you 100% about Night Stalkers, it's probably one of my favorite Megadeths songs, but it would've been better if it didn't have that Ice-T bit in it, or if he actually rappes even it would've been great. As for the album itself, it's one of my favorite Megadeth albums in general.

I saw Destruction live on their Diabolical tour at a small indoor venue near me, and I thought they killed that night. The new guitarist you mentioned in the video, Damir Eskić, had really good stage presence and had a really good solo section on the stage all by himself. The openers were a mix for me, but they made it worth going.
Great list, A lot of band's I've never heard of here. I'll be checking them out.
Surprised Evil Invaders didn’t make the list. Definitely my favorite Thrash / Speed Metal of the year. All the S tier albums rule. The only one I missed was Witchery I’ll have to give that one a listen cause it sounds good!
Been a year where I missed so much music, only picked up MW and MegaDave this year for thrash. Now I got a shopping list
Hey man thanks for the recommendation on Vorbid been listening to it since After watching the video and would have never heard of them otherwise
Chiroptera by Algebra is my thrash album of the year easily, an underground pick but with good reason. Far as crossover goes, New Lords by Mindforce was pretty solid.
A fistful of favs from 2022 in thrash metal for me would be: Archaic - The Endgame Protocol Amken - Passive Aggression Chemicide - Common Sense Tempest - Point of No Return Algebra - Chiroptera Also, I’d put both Voivod and Vorbid in prog metal, but they’re both amazing!!!

I would agree Voivod is no longer really thrash,they have thrash elements and we’re for sure early on but not now.
Glad you included Sadistic Ritual in the list. The Engima, Boundless was really good and not well known outside Atlanta.
Thrash is one of my favorite genres, but may be the toughest to expand from its original form. Whereas death and black metal continue to evolve, thrash remains closer to original form. Thrash is more of its time (80's) and harder to make relevant today. While there is some decent modern thrash, I lean heavily on the older output for my headbanging enjoyment.
@Hellenicheavymetal

I like blackened thrash, but not normal thrash. Its the vocals usually, i tend to like extreme vocals so i like necropanther most but i admit i dont know much thrash because it didnt appeal to me really. I was a metalcore deathcore kid
@Diamond_Jim
Жыл бұрын
@@gengashaunt3322 That's my point. I think unfiltered thrash was very innovative in the 80's but it's a style that is difficult to build upon. I also enjoy blackened thrash, which I think is closely related to first wave of black metal from the 80's. Early Bathory and Celtic Frost were essentially blackened thrash outfits. They evolved away from that sound.

Ever hear of Vektor??
@Diamond_Jim
Жыл бұрын
@@troublemagnet1 Vektor is great but if you look at the depth and variety of music coming from death or black metal genres, there is no comparison. Vektor, in my view, is more of a progressive band than straight ahead thrash. My point is the old, pure thrash is what resonates with me personally. I applaud anybody who digs modern thrash, but its viability as a genre is challenged because the style is so directly tied to a certain period of time.
Grave Noises- Roots of damnation really stood out for me. A well blend of late 80s thrash that began experimenting with groove elements in the early 90s ( testament, overkill, sepultura).
i am surprised evil invaders didn't make this list but than again can't know every band or release, voivod was a nice surprise to see in here and i really dig it.
Thrash never really dies. It has influenced too many to fully die.
That Vorbid album is awesome, thanks for the recommendation!
Thanks for highlighting the Vovid album, missed that!

Midnight are killer live. I’ve seen them four times now since they keep opening for bands I really want to see and they always put on a great show. I’ve never once had the urge to listen to one of their albums, though.
I saw GWAR in Vancouver this past October and have the same shirt you are wearing in the video!
@MetalTrenches Crossover Thrash had a hell of a year! Ninth Realm's debut (A Fate Unbroken) and High Command's sophomore release (Eclipse of the Dual Moons) absolutely kicked my ass, A or S-tier material.
Some food for thought. I blew off/forgot about a couple that you rank pretty highly. I love Witchery, dunno why I didn't get to that one.
Good vid thanks. Couple releases there I missed. I wish Join The Bear Cult made it onto the list though. Stellar album.
Wow that Witchery album is great.
I was most impressed by some thrash-adjacent albums this year, as opposed to straight-forward thrash. Voivod and Daeva ended up being my two favorite releases. Interestingly, Kreator and Megadeth both let me down, I wasn't a fan of either, and I was kind of discouraged to dive further into releases after that.
That Voivod clip sounded like a stroke.
Thanks for the kind words! 🙏🏻
I feel the same about midnight, I remember the insane hype for their 2020 album on metal internet circles and was severely let down personally, the whole thing felt so boring to me. Did not remember a single thing about it afterwards type album for me. Oh well not every album lands for everyone
High Command - S tier thrash from 2022.
I'm a big Midnight fan, but agree with exactly how you've described it. The songs I like, I really love. The rest kind of fade into the background. Hit or miss is def right.

Been a ST fan since the very early 90's! The new Municipal Waste album is sick love theses guys. What are your thoughts on the band End IT? Not so much trash more HC.
I really enjoyed the new Voivod and Kreator. I was unsure about Kreator based on one of the singles I wasn't fond of, but it's a solid album. And I love Kreator and Voivod's guitar tones and productions. I can't say the same about modern Megadeth. Even in the sample you played I hated how it sounds. Cool side note: Voivod just won their second Juno(Canada's Grammy) in a row with their new album, they also won with their last album The Wake. I love Sodom, but I didn't get that album. I own every Sodom album so I wasn't sure if it was worth it, and honestly I don't think I've heard many re-recorded songs that I thought was better than the original. Suicidal Tendencies-Controlled By Hatred/Feel Like Shit...Deja Vu being on of the few exceptions.
Voivod and Vorbid both top 5 for me this year. Outstanding albums..
SpiritWorld DEATHWESTERN - would love your thoughts on video of this album
Gwar definitely has some bangers
Nostalgia makes me want to reee at Xentrix placement, but age tempers it to, 'that's fair.' My only real disagreement is Destruction is C at best (to me), as it sounded just more of the same having been listening to them since second album. Your fresher ears on their discography probably relegates that to 'That's fair.' Nice vid!
Badass list! Our friends in Seizure released a badass album this year, if you're looking for something more underground you should check that out 🤘
Everyone should check out the new protector album, they're an older band but I never heard of them til this year, from germany. I don't think its anything super new and mind blowing but it's super fun for me and there's some heavy ass moments that make me wanna go ham in the pit.
Great video! Quick question though, when you say your not the biggest fan of original thrash metal and that it’s best in the modern day fused with something else. What do you mean by original thrash metal?

Somehow I missed Toxik and will need to rectify that. The rankings are pretty much in line with my own with minor exceptions. Kreator who I have listened to from the beginning would actually be a little lower for me as would Vio-lence. Razor would be a bit higher. Megadeth again I have listened to from the beginning might be lower for me also. Need to sit with it a bit longer. Midnight I really liked.

Alot of people liking the Voivod album. I dont consider them thrash any more for years. It sounds more 90s alt to me. The Destruction made my top 10 this year and Muni Waste was an honourable mention. I ranked DM and Grind stuff higher this year

I really wish I could like it, but Kreator just seems like they found their sound with Violent Revolution and then just stuck with it until present day. They're as predictable as Manowar or Iron Maiden these days. Midnight Sun was an interesting break from the norm though.
