It won't be the last time it comes up this year either...

For me its Hellripper and Enforced all the way, they wiped the floor with most of this stuff here. We saw the Cavalera brothers and Voivod put a fresh coat of paint on classic material and it still got knocked out clean by Hellripper and Enforced. The Terminalist album was really great too.

Cavalera was absolutely incredible especially for a remaster of both the first EP and album! I even got to see Max and Igor perform both in it's entirety in Des Moines and it was amazing! Easily my favorite thrash releases of the year!

Knife's album is their second record, and it rules Hellripper is definitely my album of the year

Sometime in the new year maybe I would love to see a video about the best Death-Thrash bands in your opinion. Cause i love when bands combine those two genres. Just a suggestion ☺️🤘

I like how you include more underground acts. This is the second 2023 genre video you've done where I've been surprised you listed a band I saw live as a local opener (Hinayana in the melodeath video and Sadistic Force in this one).

Some great picks, my personal no.1 being the Legion of The Damned album.. Some albums worth checking out which you haven't mentioned - Kobold - Chaos Head (Avant-garde thrash) Venus - Obscured Until Observed (Vektor style technical thrash) Tortured Demon - Rise Of The Lifeless (Kreator esque) GraveRipper - Seasons Dreaming Death (not unlike Hellripper)

Necropanther are really good, and they're sooo good to their fans. I'd pre-ordered the vinyl for Betrayal. It was delayed, so they sent me a bunch of their older CD's and swag. Cool people.

Great list, & great to see Hellripper get the kudos he deserves! 3 for me to add - Graveripper - I see a few folk in the comments talking about this one. Shakma from Norway, their second album - amazing stuff - and overall album of the year from me is the cheesy titled ‘bang your head for Satan’ - by Slaughtered Priest from Greece - amazing 80’s style black thrash. Well worth checking out 👌

I put that on the metalcore list because while it’s crossover it leans HEAVILY into hardcore

Black Knife put out a really great blackened thrash album this year.

Actually my fav thrash / melodeath album of 2023 is Empire of Disease's "Shadows in the Abyss". But it's probably getting more into the melodic death category, I don't know. Fantastic spanish/basque band anyway.

Trenchy!!!!!! You might've missed off the best thrash album of the year. Terminalist!!!! If you haven't heard this progressive thrash band you need to get on it. This seems to have went under so many people's radar. They are quite similar to Vektor. I think Metal Meltdown was the only KZreadr I watch that has even mentioned this. It's an absolute must.

That’s not Knife’d debut it’s their second album , but a killer album , great ranking , should check out Tabahi - Thrash for justice great thrash band form Pakistan 🤘🏻

I know you said you're big on blackened thrash and it's my favourite type of thrash too, so I urge you to check out 'Executus - The Black Throne Of Chaos Abandoned". It only came out December 6th and it truly needs more attention

Love the variety represented here! Some of this is down to taste - as someone who loves Thrash that has Trad/Speed/Power elements - the Destructor and Cruel Force are way higher for me. What's funny is - both those albums are featured on the "NWOTHM Full Albums" channel - proving their trad-adjacency and appeal to people like myself. Love all kinds of Thrash though!

Acid Force released a banger a bit ago. Nice to see some love for Pizza Death.

Absolutely love Terrifier, they're amazing !

agree with the majority of your assessments. And yes! extraneous song lengths, no variation, and operatic vocals are my top sins! your top tier all rule. And i have never been into Overkill. Always wanted to be out of respect but never could. And i really dug Scorched. Enforced, Hellripper Dead Heat... and thanks for introducing me to Terrifier.

theres another great release by a a nordic thrash band called blackscape, they released a debut and its insane

I got ALOT of mileage out of the Godslut and Enforced albums at the gym. Pure rocket fuel 🤘

I've been getting a lot more into thrash lately and am glad to see Enforced mentioned here. Another band I didn't see on the list but I think is worth your time is PEST CONTROL

Enforced were my best album of the year upon first listen. In the grand scheme of things War Remains might be some of the harshest realities in lyrics ever - life takes life in order to survive..

Your list was a lot like my own. The exceptions I had Godslut and Sadistic Force higher, and though I love Overkill, I thought Scorched was a bit of a step back. Metallica, for me sucked. What was especially awesome was a few of these bands like Pizza Death I never heard of, so more music for me check out.

Necropanther, Hellripper and Terrifier were all great. I even enjoy (most) of 72 Seasons. Maybe I'm the weird one but Enforced's new album sounded like just more of Kill Grid to me. Still good but nothing great. Been a great year for thrash, if you get a chance check out Graveripper's album from August. It's a good listen.

Dunno if ya didn't hear it, or if it didn't make your list, but Pest Control - Don't Test the Pest is a fantastic thrash (probably crossover) debut by a new band from England. My favourite thrash of the year.

Where is Demoniac - Nube negra? Best thrash album of this year by far

Enforced: Whilst I really like War Remains, I prefer Kill grid. The reason is I find songwriting to be one of their strengths, and one of the things that sets them apart from many other bands. With this album being much shorter, I don't feel the songwriting comes across quite as well. Still, a great album and band. I'd also throw Hellripper into the "Perfection" category.

72 seasons is metallica’s most mid album as it’s doesn’t have any song that I would call bad, but it also doesn’t have any song that I would call fantastic. There are some good songs like chasing light and room of mirrors and there are some other moments that i kinda like, but it’s so bloated and most of the songs feel the same. I’d give it like a 6/10.

@@MetalTrenches The only thing that i disagree with you is that 72 seasons is slightly more consistent and slightly better than hardwired (I have watched your metallica tier list). The 2nd disc on HTSD kinda sucks (aside from spit out the bone), as I find ManUNkind and murder one to be one of the metallica’s worst songs. Am i savage is super dull, although it has very cool bridge riff and confusion and here comes revenge are also meh.

Came here to post exactly this, and I'm a huge fan. It has to be their most average, forgettable album. I still love Death Magnetic, and some songs from Hardwired, even St Anger, but theres nothing on this album, except maybe Shadows Follow, that makes me want to listen to it. It just made me ask, ''Why did they even bother?''

I would say that Holy Moses is more of a grind band than thrash.

Its a shame that the actual best Thrash albums of 2023 wasnt included at all, "The Sick, The Dying... and The Dead!" Was probably their finest work after Rust in Peace.

You are incredibly critical of other “legacy” bands. That album is so damn boring! You also failed to mention Orbit Culture and Avatar. They both had great albums this year. Those albums alone are on my end of year list, with sulphur aeons new album recently added. Still waiting on panopticon's new one, it's turning into another stacked year!
