For comparison, here’s the milder MRT Sport Touring Axle Back Exhaust Review kzread.info/dash/bejne/nHqip8xslrO1hsY.html
I've found that putting some sound deadening (or just removing) the heatshield above the muffler massively reduces droning with most aftermarket exhausts. It's a thin sheet of metal and vibrates a lot so it basically acts as an amplifier for any drone you get
@Newyen6MT
Жыл бұрын
Interesting, might have to try that. The only solution to get rid of drone is to add a j pipe which I might do
@zabu_oscar
Жыл бұрын
@@Newyen6MT Yeah I guess to be clear it doesn't get rid of drone, just reduces the intensity for particularly lower frequency drone
The car sounds awesome! Not too obnoxious, but more sporty! Cool to see your transformation of the car with all these mods you've done.
Perfectly timed video! I'm looking at exhausts for my 23 BRZ
always a pleasure to watch vids of your BRZ
I am a fan of the flooring you have in your garage man. Looks very classy.

Thanks, I like it a lot!
That sounds awesome! Love what you have done so far to this car!
Oh man, that sounds badass!
The downshift pops are cool, never heard that from a new BRZ
Thanks for taking the time for an in-depth exhaust review like this… Love the “Comparative sound clip” style exhaust reviews, but not enough people taking the time to talk about the drone zone and general livability of these systems. How abusive is this on cold start being unmuffled? This seems incredibly livable as a daily exhaust otherwise. I think it would be between this and the AWE track. Pretty similar tone.
@hhaste

I guess you could always cold start it with a silencer in but that becomes a huge hassle, unless you don't mind taking it out after every cold start lol.
Oooo I like that exhaust!
dream car
You’re making me really want one of these cars Toph! Great sound.
I knew that the exhaust tips looked different in your previous video! 😂 sounds great man
Yay! Love the BRZ content! I have an HKS Spec L2, wish I could do this but pretty sure it's illegal in CA.
My garage is slowly turning into exactly like yours. I already have a 22 Civic Type R arriving in April of this year. And probably going to get a GR86 soon!

0:40 oh hello Elantra N
It’s hard to tell without sound level readings but this seems a lot quieter than the Remark straight through axle back. I wonder why? Do you think it sounds louder in person? I’d never have considered a muffler delete before, but for $200 less than the touring…
yooo I'm getting this!
man i just got my 22 wrx premium, your channel helped me decide between it and an older sti. very happy with it have always wanted a wrx. love the content! Was quite surprised how loud the stock exhaust is, think a muffler delete would be worth though? just wanna bring it out a little more

If it's your first Subaru or if you're new to the Subaru world, you have to tune for every little thing or you risk blowing your engine, EXCEPT for cat-back or axle-back exhaust. You can do either of those without any worry but I would honestly still have your stock car tuned on a dyno by a local shop, just to be even safer. The stock tunes from the factory aren't great, ever since 07+.. maybe get a couple things together before a tune and do it all at once. One option would be to keep your cat-back stock but get an aftermarket downpipe + tune. That would bring out some sound, while still keeping it fairly quiet and you'd have a nice bump in power.

@@hhaste thanks for the advice man! i will def look into it. for now i think im just gonna keep it stock, im super happy with it as is and am quite surprised how loud it is, that being said my previous '18 honda civic was relatively quiet.
How was the installation process for you? This sounds great and more affordable than other available mufflers right now in my opinion, I had the MAP exhaust catback in mind but now this is making me second guess
@danaw.3501
Жыл бұрын
The installation is super simple just a few bolts. The full install can be done in 20-25 minutes if not a little less time. The instructions can be found here drive.google.com/file/d/1RKoiyUxFGX55jMleRe0qNBOhzxaI9Iv4/view
Wht was up with the fumes only coming from one side of the exhaust on the “cold start”? Is that it’s valve actuation for noise control?
@Newyen6MT
Жыл бұрын
If you look at the design of the exhaust, the tubing for the right side is directly straight off from the main pipe. The left side is coming off at an angle. Exhaust/air travels in the path that is the most straight out the back or has the least resistance basically. Thats my thought why it’s coming out from the right
so weird seeing a car youtuber drive around our local area. my pavement lands next month, hope to see you around.
Sounds really good! The only thing that sounded off was the "wind" noise it seems to make

Do you know if this exhaust or the touring one do that rumble gurgle once you let off the throttle when its sitting idle?
Do you work for MRT? I always see them in a few of your videos
Sounds sick, very nice
I prefer the GR86 or Si
Sounds great! Liking with how the BRZ is coming along Topher 🔥 make me want to get one lol
Nice garage flooring
Hey just curious how’s the loudness compared to corsa exhaust?
Do you expect or notice any gains from the (theoretically) less restrictive exhaust? I've had the Borla axle back on my '17 for a little over 4 years, and it's been great. It just bolted on, so was easy to do myself. Not cheap (about $ 600 in 2018), but seems to be durable. Like the "glass packs" of old, it seems to have gotten a little louder with age, especially the first several months. It doesn't drone at highway speeds though. Cold start might wake the neighbors.
It’d be nice to hear this and the touring with headers
So it sounds like you liked the Touring better? I'm getting older too and its the wife's car, so don't want her to hate it. It needs more low tone though in the exhaust for sure. Really want an UEL header as I like the sound of them, but we have the extended warranty. :(
@TheTopher

Touring is definitely more my speed these days. I think that paired with a uel header would be 🤌

@@TheTopher That is very good to know and I agree with you from what I am hearing (as good as we can through YT). I am not one for all the silly pops and crackles, and it looks like the Touring sort of keeps that to a minimum on the MRT page as well. Thanks again for your videos and sharing this info to us BRZ/86 owners.
I would to see pov drive review of the new x3 m40i
Would love to hear this paired with an UEL header later on! I’m thinking of trying the UEL header / stock catback combination to keep it on the quiet side on my ‘23.
Do you think you’ll get uels at some point?
Anyone know why smoke only came out of the passenger side exhaust pipe during cold start?
I always liked the sound of these without uel headers
Plymouth has such horrible potholes during winter, I always avoid it lol.
UEL Header!
Never seen your garage, that's a nice floor!

a downpipe maybe would help for more sound?

@@you_can_fuck_your_own_ass_69 thank you for the Info. 👍.
If you want the pops grab 2nd gear around 20-30 kph and give it a couple revs
Are exhausts like this illegal?
@Barbwire710
Жыл бұрын
Typically, yes as they are usually well above the decibel (noise) limit for most areas, especially near redline. Only a few exhaust for this platform are truly street legal, like the GR performance exhaust from Toyota etc.
you should consider putting a carbon fiber driveshaft if there is one available (perhaps the one for the previous gen works?) it will improve shifting, specially down shifting.
Corsa and Borla are best on the market. 0 drone no matter the rev range.
Needs UEL headers. It sounds like a civic, I’m sorry. I love the brz but it needs to sound different.
Jejenebeehw
Sounds like a vacuum cleaner but still sounds better than a type r
why not get an actual catback
Sounds amazing! Rip anyone that gets them in California 😅
