@@gerald4nomads 4x4 is a lot different and superior to AWD at a mechanical level. But right now I’m shopping around and the Sprinter is the bargain. Ford dealers are scamming tryin to charge $20k over retail for these. It’s like dude it’s just a van wtf stop scalping these to the public. It’s so bad that these people are charging more for a used transit than a brand new sprinter
I have a 2016 Sprinter 4x4, bought new, still perfect now at 127,000 miles. The ScanGauge shows DEF at 25% so no emission problems any time soon. Average mpg over the last 24,000 miles=18.3. Never had a problem with it, only regular maintenance which is easy to do in my own driveway. Parts are not expensive but labor at the dealership is. I chose the Sprinter for being the only van with 4x4 at that time, otherwise I would have bought a Ford AWD for the cheaper and more accessible maintenance. Diesel engines are not popular in the US as personal vehicles but all heavy duty commercial/industrial engines are diesel for a reason. In Europe I saw several Sprinters with more than 1million km(620,000miles) still in use for commuting service.

The 2016 Sprinter 2.1 diesel I owned for three years from 70k to 103k required a new water at 75-80k. Would throw an engine code if it was started below freezing. Fixed within warranty. $1500 roughly. Apparently the tens to go out every 75k. Then… the diesels utilize a cp4 fuel pump. Google it to find out the nightmare of these. At 103k on a road trip 1000 miles away from home it started to throw a code. (Suggestion, if you own a sprinter own an obd2 reader and don’t travel on Saturday or Sundays as the Mercedes’ service departments are closed over a wknd.) The fuel pumps were utilized in many diesels, there are kits to deter catastrophic fuel system failure in trucks but not Mercedes. Dodge has actually acknowledged the major defect and issued a recall. Mercedes’ has not. The fuel pump disintegrates and disperses metal bits into the fuel system and you’re looking at a $16k-$20k repair. Enjoy your road trips. Buy a ford.
Great comparison. I'm thinking of trading in my 2018 Transit and was looking into the Sprinter. After this video, I'm sold on the Transit once again! Gotta love that massive touch screen!!

Smart idea, but I've seen a decent amount of them broken off due to a weak hinge and the fact it can pop open by accident when getting in and out of the vehicle.
I have owned 10 Mercedes products but just ordered a Ford Transit mainly due to service cost and number of places for service which is much better than the Mercedes
my new 3.5 148 (high roof) Transit just arrived after being on backorder for 9 months. So worth the wait. Its amazing and has the same engine as my F-150 truck which has been rock solid. Ford have really up'd their game lately..
Haven't had it long, but I love my 2022 MB 4x4 6 cyl. Drives and rides so sweet. And it's nice having the Thor Sanctuary build in it. Pretty nice looking ride too.
Thanks for the review.
Ooh two of the best commercial vans
The Sprinters notorious ignition countdown to zero starts. This alone makes me chose the Transit every time. That Sprinters diesel pollution system becomes glitchy after 130k. If you get a sprinter, keep $6k on standby for that DPF filter and nox sensors

Ford transit is better imo and cheaper too. Ford more bang for the buck and better dimensions It's wider and taller inside.

It seems to me these two vans are different from a Trim level point of view. I know for a fact you can get a Cargo transit van with better looking wheels and better seats.
I couldn't tell by the info provided, was the wheelbase longer on the Sprinter or the overall truck length? Interior cargo volume would have been good info to have for the comparison. Sprinter looks better but Black looks better than white on vans. Most comparisons favor the Ford IMHO. Price, even with AWD, Powertrain, Number of dealerships for repairs, and the expected cost of repairs favor gas powertrains over diesel. Luxury dealerships labor usually more expensive as well. For the price difference I could finish out the interior of the Ford for Overlanding and have the complete pkg for the base price of the Sprinter.
It is nice to know you can't get in the gas cap w/o having the door unlocked
Love my 2021 MB Diesel V6!
I would pick Transit, AWD beats 4x4 in crap weather/mud where 4x4 is just better for heavier loads. Also there is 3000 ford service centers across the states vs Mercedes 300. This means local shops can fix your transit vs going to a mercedes dealership everytime, and the price of parts is cheaper on the Transit side.
The gas door is designed like that to keep people from stealing your gas or dumping crap into the tank.
The gas filler not a big problem and it locks you fuel door . My mercades has a dully does dodge?
If I was ever going to buy a van (yes, any van) it would be a Ford or Mercedes!
Gas door same on both need to open drivers door….when you look doors can’t put junk in your fuel tank
Really is a no brainer, hands down Ford for the win. I have spent many years driving 350 Econolines then Transits as well as the Freightliner / Sprinter along with the Dodge ram and GMC G20 / Savanna. Back in the day GMC made a good work van but fast-forward to today, Transit is the only way to go.

Transit outclasses. Sprinter is good with the interior (more space), drive position and technological aspects inside. But engine and drive performance, mainly the power 😅. Yes, of course sprinter looks extremely elegant ❤️
Great video and comparison. I have been on the fence but I will stay away from the Sprinter unless you are in an area that has a dealer that is licenced to work on a sprinter. With a Ford, as long as it fits in the garage they can work on it. I'm heading into the market for an RV conversion so the likeliness of having a sprinter dealer in remote areas would be unlikely which could result in a lot bigger expense in an already pricy repair. I currently own a Transit passenger wagon and it has been super reliable so I am looking more at the Transit or Ram for the RV.
I liked the Ford better. Thanks for the video
I have a 2016 ford transit that I bought new , and made into a camper , It has less than 34 K on it now ,and it has died on us in the middle of nowhere 3 times I would not buy another one . I found through my own experience that they are very unreliable . I went through the same thought process as all your other commenters before I bought it More places to get it fixed , cheaper etc. and It still turned out to be a very undependable vehicle . I can't say the Mercedes is better but It couldn't be much worse .

Maintenance intervals on the sprinter is every 30,000 kms vs 5,000 or 10,000kms on the ford. Something to consider

Sprinter is 100x better Got a 2014 2.1 turbo 4c And drives perfectly fine sure maintenance not cheap but you do maintenance in time and you visit the shop less often .. try that for sprinters less mechanic shops Vs ford .. also diesel takes way more miles can gas .. diesel abit lazy thou at take offs but once ur at abit higher rpm goes goes smooth
in my country merc sprinter is considered luxury car
Maintenance, repairs, part pricws,, fuel mileage and fuel price all factors.
I had a 2017 mercedes springer at my previous employer. It was nice driving it but there were a few times where the transmission would act funny and we would take it to Mercedes and they would never find anytbing wrong with it.
I am very interested in either the Mercedes Sprinter or Ford Transit for the purpose of commercial use, such as construction. My biggest concern for a Van is its reliability, most importantly its engine and transmission. I am looking to buy a brand new van, so it will be definitely a 2023, but I can't find anything about the pros and cons of my concern, yet what problems are faced with both engines and transmission. Maintenance is key from an Owner/Operator standpoint, as with diesel engines, within the context of the video, I don't see the advantage as a Courier vehicle. (IMHO)
You failed to mention something significant. If you buy a diesel sprinter, you will have to deal with the DEF system or have it removed out of warranty. My parents had two Sprinter camper vans & they had enough issues with both of them that they decided to sell them. It was an ongoing hassle to get fixed & very costly. Beware buying the Mercedes.
2024 Those wheels on the Sprinter are optional. So are the LED lights. Those are an option. I'm thinking of buying a Sprinter myself. I would go with the regular van other than the AWD.

Ford mainly because is easier to find a place for the services and repairs.
Ford, son. The Transit is basically on the F150 platform. Lots of power upgrades and parts out there, boys.
I can't comment on the Sprinter because I didn't get that far but I will tell you that the Mercedes dealer in Calgary Alberta treated us so badly after we gave them our deposit and waited an extra year for them to deliver a vehicle that was not what we ordered that we are so _issed off that not only are we not buying a sprinter we will likely never let another Mercedes product park in our driveway. This is a bit awkward since my son drives a Mercedes. They were just that bad! I can't believe they can stay in business.

How is the sprinter now? Good or bad experience?
Diesel mechanics are hard to find, those that work on sprinters are harder. Availability of parts, cost of parts, cost of labor…. Transit all the way.. transit is taller on the inside, wider on the inside., And can be worked on anywhere.. parts are everywhere…. If you need a van as a daily income maker. Then anticipated downtime in a transit will be hours or days, sprinter will be days, weeks or months.. Transit is also a better drive.
Have fun trying to go up a steep hill with the Sprinters horsepower.
You kept repeating that the Mercedes has leather. It doesn't. Look at your window sticker under upholstery. Leatherette.
Cost of repairs the merc is expensive and most mechanics can not work on them unless the have the correct computer. Ford you can get parts for it in any hick town
NOTE: Opening up the door to fuel it is actually pretty awesome. It keeps degenerates from being able to either steal your gas or mess with your ride. I wish all cars came with that design personally.
Can’t you get the powerstroke in the ford
Can you add seats to these vans if you want?
Transit hands down. Cost is lower. Easier to get repairs where ever you are. I love my transit.
You neglected to mention service and parts options. Ford parts and service are more likely to be easier to come by than Mercedes. That's a big plus. But I understand the Ford suspension is not that good. My pick is still Ford.
I will choose a Mercedes over any car anytime any day 😅
Is Toyota going to come out wirhba cargo van in the near future?
you seem a little too stuck up on the name merc, in Europe most people get ford transit, goes forever and not cost so much and faster
How much is $10k less.
I would take the Transit. Diesel is 1/3 more expensive than gas, so fuel cost is awash.
The door having to be open to fuel the vehicle is a poor mans lock, that is harder to lose the key for.
I would not recommend anybody with the van ever considering an EcoBoost because it's a turbo and it's known to not be Dependable but inside of a van is also a much bigger pain in the ass to work on because you would have to remove the engine from underneath the band in order to access the turbo EcoBoost is only known to go about 200,000 miles before you need to do major things like replaced turbos you need to take that into consideration not just the amount of horsepower you again but whether or not you actually want to have to buy a new fan every 150,000 miles because the EcoBoost is it going to ride this morning as you want to use it this video clearly the Sprinter van is a better buy because it has a diesel diesel engines are known to go at least 1.5 million miles and are designed to do 3 million miles
Which one would you choose for yourself?
For driver Ford is much the comfortable .
Transit is not quite a stylish, but certainly a significantly better value and objectively better in a number of ways.
