2022 Marin Alpine Trail E1: INCREDIBLY good fun!

Ойын-сауық

All new Marin Alpine Trail E1 Electric Mountain Bike, priced at £4295, is a brilliantly fun ebike from Marin that is built to shred trails and downhill. Progressive geometry with a slack head angle (63 degree), steep seat tube (78 degree), short chainstay (435mm), reach up to 505mm in XL. It feels GREAT!
Aluminium frame, 160 Fork, 150mm coil rear wheel travel, mullet ebike (29er wheel on front and 27.5" rear).
DISCLAIMER: Marin paid for me to produce this video. This has allowed me to work with The Bike Pilot to film, capture and produce the video and therefore is market as 'Paid Promotion'. In no way did Marin have any control or influence over the video, narrative or final content. I believe that being open and honest is important. As brands now have direct access to YOU, my loyal audience via my channel, you deserve to know all the good stuff and bad stuff about the products I'm testing.
They make a couple of versions. I'm riding the more affordable model but they also do one with the 2021 Shimano EP8 motor and 630Wh battery, along with better fork and component spec.
Bike Prices:
Marin Alpine Trail E1: £4295 / €4899 / $4499 (US)
Marin Alpine Trail E2: £5695 / €6199 / $5999 (US)
I'd really think that if you want the most from the bike the E2 version will be the one for full sends with the Fox 38 fork and better climbing from the more low down grunt from the EP8. However, the E1 version that I have been riding is still proper good fun and very reasonably priced at £4295. Geometry and frame is the same between the two bikes, just different component / motor spec.

Looks very nice but I just wonder why Shimano E7000 when there is E800 available. Im currently looking ebike and I´m wondering should I go with bosch gen 4, wait for Shimano ep8 or go with older E8000. There is alot of good bikes but my biggest question mark is the motor. Thanks for reviews and keep doing these great videos.

E7000 in a modern 2021 ebike is a dumb idea imo, but at least they doesn't cost 7500$ like the Santa Cruz bulit does with the same motor... The bike looks great after all!!

Also I just stuck a RockShox ZEB and Ohlins TTX coil on my Levo and it's made a massive difference. The rear is so plush with a coil, def suits an ebike setup in my view. Another great review.

I think motor torque is overhyped and a little misunderstood by people who havent spent a lot of time on an ebike. I was the same until recenlty. I've had my Commencal Meta Power SX Race with the EP8 for just over 2 weeks and I've done just over 400km on it so far. I went riding on the weekend with some friends who were on regular pedal bikes so I was just riding in eco with the assistance set to 3/10 and the max torque set to 42Nm. The terrain was a mixture of singletrack, jump trails, punchy climbs and long medium climbs. I was still flying away from them with it just in eco. 42Nm is still a lot of assistance. Then later in the ride I flicked it up to trail (7/10 & 85Nm) and blasted up a 7 and a half minute climb (took 15 minutes when I rode it at my friends pace). When you're pushing the motor to the limit and want the absolute top speed/acceleration then the torque and power output of the motor matters but when you're just riding around, 70Nm is still heaps of assistance and will still get you up some pretty gnarly climbs that would normally be unridable or very difficult on a pedal bike. You just need to be smart with gear choice exactly the same as you would on a pedal bike. The moral of the story is dont focus too much on the motor. Obviously the motor matters, but the bike itself also matters a lot. If you're comparing bikes with an EP8, Bosch, Brose, Yamaha etc, pick the bike that you want based on it merits, suspension, drivetrain etc not just solely on which motor you think is a tiny bit more powerful. I had a Turbo Levo demo bike for a few days and set some pretty fast times on Strava which I have already smashed on my supposedly less powerful EP8 bike which probably comes down to the bike itself, the geometry, suspension, brakes rather than just a few more watts of peak output.

It works just fine. Plenty of power for me and so silent (which is important to me) . The profile/ plastic casing of the motor looks outdated and is not stealth looking enough by current standards/ trends. Overall it’s a great motor.

Wow sounds like Marin have come up with my perfect eeeeeb. Im still on my mullet levo . My tick list for a new bike are . Mullet , 160 travel , 64 head angle , 430 wish chain stay .... not set on the motor although like the prose and bosch. Sound like this could be it ....... although the fork would have to change .... I think you have that chain stay length wrong Rob ....... 335mm ????
