2022 Marin Alpine Trail E1: INCREDIBLY good fun!
Ойын-сауық
All new Marin Alpine Trail E1 Electric Mountain Bike, priced at £4295, is a brilliantly fun ebike from Marin that is built to shred trails and downhill. Progressive geometry with a slack head angle (63 degree), steep seat tube (78 degree), short chainstay (435mm), reach up to 505mm in XL. It feels GREAT!
Aluminium frame, 160 Fork, 150mm coil rear wheel travel, mullet ebike (29er wheel on front and 27.5" rear).

In no way did Marin have any control or influence over the video, narrative or final content. I believe that being open and honest is important. As brands now have direct access to YOU, my loyal audience via my channel, you deserve to know all the good stuff and bad stuff about the products I'm testing.
They make a couple of versions. I'm riding the more affordable model but they also do one with the 2021 Shimano EP8 motor and 630Wh battery, along with better fork and component spec.
Bike Prices:
Marin Alpine Trail E1: £4295 / €4899 / $4499 (US)
Marin Alpine Trail E2: £5695 / €6199 / $5999 (US)
I'd really think that if you want the most from the bike the E2 version will be the one for full sends with the Fox 38 fork and better climbing from the more low down grunt from the EP8. However, the E1 version that I have been riding is still proper good fun and very reasonably priced at £4295. Geometry and frame is the same between the two bikes, just different component / motor spec.

Looks very nice but I just wonder why Shimano E7000 when there is E800 available. Im currently looking ebike and I´m wondering should I go with bosch gen 4, wait for Shimano ep8 or go with older E8000. There is alot of good bikes but my biggest question mark is the motor. Thanks for reviews and keep doing these great videos.

E7000 in a modern 2021 ebike is a dumb idea imo, but at least they doesn't cost 7500$ like the Santa Cruz bulit does with the same motor... The bike looks great after all!!

Your review helped me decide! Ordered one today. Thanks
Love the look of that, my first bike was a Palisades Trail ('95) that I upgraded to death, so great to see them in the game. Also I just stuck a RockShox ZEB and Ohlins TTX coil on my Levo and it's made a massive difference. The rear is so plush with a coil, def suits an ebike setup in my view. Another great review.
I own a 2019 Marin Alpine Trail 8 and love everything about its ride and geometry. It is truly the one bike for all types of trails. I’ve been looking at getting an Emtb for when I go on week long trips to get more hours of ridding in... No more looking 😜
Now that was a great bike review. Wish all bike reviews were conducted and put together like this one was. Made me want to grab my bike and head for the trails. Great job!
Great review, loving the videography Rob! That bike looks banging. The only bike in many many years that has a great geometry and price plus the spec of the E2 looks cracking, don't think I would need to change anything.
Rob because of the price of the E2 being still cheap but with great suspension and that fab geometry EP8 motor. You have got to do a ride review it looks great. 🤘
Best reviewer on KZread in my opinion, Rob explains, demonstrates and catches your interest! Enough sucking up 😂
Excelent review......good to know that they are using that very capable and good motor. The e7000 gives just the right amount of power for that type of ebike.....A FUN BIKE.....💪

Great review, I’m almost sold ! I’ve always thought e- bikes should be built around a 9 or a 10 spd drivetrain with the larger pins for more strength, better heat management, overall wear and tear. save the 12 spd for pedal
I like before I watch.
I think motor torque is overhyped and a little misunderstood by people who havent spent a lot of time on an ebike. I was the same until recenlty. I've had my Commencal Meta Power SX Race with the EP8 for just over 2 weeks and I've done just over 400km on it so far. I went riding on the weekend with some friends who were on regular pedal bikes so I was just riding in eco with the assistance set to 3/10 and the max torque set to 42Nm. The terrain was a mixture of singletrack, jump trails, punchy climbs and long medium climbs. I was still flying away from them with it just in eco. 42Nm is still a lot of assistance. Then later in the ride I flicked it up to trail (7/10 & 85Nm) and blasted up a 7 and a half minute climb (took 15 minutes when I rode it at my friends pace). When you're pushing the motor to the limit and want the absolute top speed/acceleration then the torque and power output of the motor matters but when you're just riding around, 70Nm is still heaps of assistance and will still get you up some pretty gnarly climbs that would normally be unridable or very difficult on a pedal bike. You just need to be smart with gear choice exactly the same as you would on a pedal bike. The moral of the story is dont focus too much on the motor. Obviously the motor matters, but the bike itself also matters a lot. If you're comparing bikes with an EP8, Bosch, Brose, Yamaha etc, pick the bike that you want based on it merits, suspension, drivetrain etc not just solely on which motor you think is a tiny bit more powerful. I had a Turbo Levo demo bike for a few days and set some pretty fast times on Strava which I have already smashed on my supposedly less powerful EP8 bike which probably comes down to the bike itself, the geometry, suspension, brakes rather than just a few more watts of peak output.
Looks banging
Great review, thanks! How would you compare this to the Focus Sam2?
Your filming is quality !
Great review. It seems like a fantastic first emtb for anyone. I have a bike with the e7000 motor and have done about 2000 miles on it . Agree with everything you said about it. It works just fine. Plenty of power for me and so silent (which is important to me) . The profile/ plastic casing of the motor looks outdated and is not stealth looking enough by current standards/ trends. Overall it’s a great motor.
Hmm interesting, ride Marina for a season in 2014 when they were super short, but build quality was fantastic. Love how they've addressed the geo and go e the other way. That 2 could be a right weapon!

That looks great Rob. Can’t help feeling we need to hear your review of the E2. That E1 is really quite heavy - did that help? Hi Rob, This rig interests me, but wonder whether it would be better to get a lightly used Merida e160 900 that reviews very favourably ,but it is not a 29/27.5, or is this Marin the one to get?
hey rob! how was the large fitting your size and how tall are you? i´m with 187cm between large and x-large. the reach of the large should be good for me but with the slack geometry the toptube is rather short.
Hi mate... do you have a rocky mountain power player on the upcoming test list?
I like your helmet. What brand is that?
Rob do a cushcore review please front tire too😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍
i'm 181cm and i ride Patrol with reach=475, HTa=64. And i'm wondering how ebike with Re=486 would behave on slower and more technical trails. (i know i could blast in FoD's Ski run and similar (almost like DH) trails, but what about more technical riding?) it's inherently stable thanks to bigger mass and lower CG. Do i need 486mm reach? maybe it's better to size it down ? Medium has re=465mm
