today's car designers are under tremendous pressure to come up with something different than what exist already. And they usually end up with something weird. It is not easy to come up with something different, yet eye pleasing.

If I ever decide to start driving again, this is exactly the kind of car I want. Hyundai/Kia have come so correct the past few years. They went from bottom-barrel to top-tier in the mainstream segment surprisingly quickly. Every vehicle in their lineups is a real contender.

Even though I might not always like it, I do appreciate how hard Hyundai are unleashing their styling designers. They stick out on the road. Also, the magnetic panel is most likely a phone holder, lots of phone mounting widgets use a magnet that you stick to the back of your phone.

Thats exactly right. In S.Korea everyone uses their phone navi over car navi and mount it up front, because businesses and roads change so fast that car navi become inaccurate after a few months. So people just use their phones for accuracy. The roads in the major city can be unending mazes. Edit: Mainly to keep up with correct speed limits and traffic cams that are everywhere. I dont know about other countries but S.Korean navi warns you if you are about to approach a speed cam. Car navis sometimes display incorrect speed limit which in turn you end up with fines. Smart phone navis are always up to date so its just common practice here.

I think his overuse of weird and quirky we're a little bit over-the-top. I agree, I think it's a good looking car and has a lot of good merits to it. The only bad thing is the Hyundai dealership where I went added a $5,000 premium to the price... I and at least three other people just walked away after hearing that. The EV Revolution is here, but it will be slowed down by adding $5,000 premiums to the price of new EV cars. By the way the the magnet for the most part is used to hold your phone but can be used for other things I'm sure.

Another good thing worth mentioning about Kia/Hyundai models is they update their maps for free. I have a 2017 Ioniq and have been getting built-in nav updates via SD card since I bought it all for free. This really helps with the livability of your car long-term as you don't need to shell out hundreds at the dealership to get them to update it for you.

The bonus cushion at the foot of the driver seat isn't a thigh support adjustment. It's supposed to function as an Ottoman. When you are stopped and charging somewhere and you have nowhere to go whilst you wait for said charge, they included this for people who may want to just lie back and relax in what is almost a recliner. If im not mistaken there is a button in the car somewhere that I think does this automatically, like a "max" or "max relax" or "max recline" button that does all the seat adjustment and ottoman deployment in one touch.

A lot of the newer ones get a lot of arbitrary numbers thrown out. Many times the horsepower numbers are inaccurate or something. But at the same time it's good that he doesn't parrot what everyone else says all the time. If you watch other car review channels of the same car, they're pretty much all the same: point camera, list specs, move on. This one, and Savagegeese are really the only two _different_ review channels I'm subbed to. Him going in not having the manufacturer talking sheet all the time could help us out too in some ways. I just figured I'd comment what this piece is incase he genuinely wanted to know, or any of his viewers needed to know. But most of us probably knew more about this car than he did. EV6 has the different HVAC controls and USB C everywhere, Ionic 5 has that big panoramic roof and remote control charge door. Just a few of the differences... Kia/Hyundai are doing it right, same platform for development, remarkably different how you'd live with them.

    1. The design on the speakers and cup holders is a 3D cube which is a variant of a pixel square just FYI and 2. USB A makes way more sense as most cables and companies still leverage the technology more so than USB C. I actually appreciate it since I have so many of the cables. 3. The leg rest is to go into relaxation mode which puts the driver seat fully flat and reclined. It is not meant for thigh support while driving.

This reminds me of the state of car design in the late 1980s/early 1990s - when high-end brands, such as BMW and Mercedes, had to play catch-up with the more mundane vehicles whose respective brands happened to pick up trendy new aero designs. This car looks new today, but watch the more conservative others follow with a refreshed design language pretty soon.

I actually test drove one last week from our local Hyundai Dealer and it was awesome. One of the things that caught my attention was, that even though the car takes a futuristic and modern approach, they still decided to put buttons in for the infotainment system below the touchscreeen. I hate the fact that other manufacturers go only screens. I still like a turning knob for the volume rather than having to find the button on the touch display and pushing it multiple times to turn up the volume while driving. What’s wrong with putting in some of the most essential buttons. So hats of to Hyundai for going with some buttons!

A lot of the "strange/weird" stuff didn't seem all that weird, like the use of the squares (technically no "pixels") as a decorative element. The diagonal in the side of the exterior and the "cyclone" design around the wheels are definitely a bit odd, but I like them, and I do like the new color. As for the magnetic panel to the right of the instrument display, my guess is that it is intended to hold cellphones, not refrigerator magnets. I think that's a smart idea.

I think you completely missed the selectable 5 level regenerative braking setting which offers one pedal driving. This is a great feature. Regenerative braking offers outstanding control down curvy mountain roads, has a big impact on range and efficiency. One pedal driving is great after a little getting used to it. These features should be covered in all EV reviews. I took a test drive in the Ioniq 5, and when I asked the salesman about how to use the regenerative braking settings, he was insistent that there weren't any. People need informative KZread videos to help them select the right EV, and dealers need your help as well.

I'm starting to see these around on the roads where I live in SW Pennsylvania. In person, they are as neat looking as they are on screen. Even better since on screen you get that flicker of the lights and 2-dimensional view. In person, they really pop! I LIKE IT! Now, as many already know, I'm no fan of screens being the sole option to use various functions. I do like that the climate controls are pulled out of the screen and put in their typical, rightful place as a separate unit. That, and the stereo appears to have physical controls like buttons and that little "Tune" key-lever control. Plus the vents look to be normal. Like, just use your fingers to adjust the airflow. Unlike another EV vehicle where you have to fuss around with a screen to even do that basic thing... (Rivian) The drivers' screen is nice. I like the futuristic layout, but I feel that some (even me) would actually prefer an option with more of a traditional dial type of display. That, and an absolute requirement would be a dark theme. Even available for day time use. Which I'm sure it has since I could see the edge of the screen in a dark mode in the preview video. The matching center screen is good in that it is WIDE and actually goes along with the naturally horizontal characteristics of a cars interior layout. Unlike some others where the screen is turned on its end like some big goofy cellphone leaned up against the dash (Tesla) Plus,, it's not like it MUST remain on "Home" screen when not being used, right? Just pop it onto the menu screen or whichever screen you choose and leave it there. Bonus points if your particular choice could be set to default. But overall, while I would like to see more physical controls, I get it that some things like GPS and system settings are simpler with a screen. I would like to see an IONIQ 5 in a deep, forest-green metallic with just a hint of goldflake, or in black metallic with a subtle touch of purple or red flake. Burgundy/goldflake would be beautiful as well. Hyundai IONIQ 5 ... I REALLY like it! The rectangular lights, the pixelated details, the squared-off edges and the sharp body lines and creases all look good to me. I mean I really want an Aptera, but that's like a Cybertruck. Lots of promises, and nothing on the road yet, and no one knows when it will happen. IONIQ 5 is here. Now. GIMME ONE! 😃 Edit for typos and clarification..

In my opinion the rectangular and pixelated lights look awesome and distinctive. @@musho86 I agree. Too much just chuckled-off or made fun of. Duda had 4 million subscribers, yet seems rushed and not truly trying to show us how things work.

This thing is amazing. Design is great, pixel look is future looking and classy in my opinion. The rear lights are incredible. Plenty of room all around, USB A ports are great because so many people still have USB A cords for many different devices beyond phones. Funny how perspective is so different where you critiqued it, but the overwhelming comments about how cool this is. I liked it so much I got a lightly used one this year. Color matched some parts, switched rims, lowering coming soon.

I've been told those four dots on the wheel are basically a Morse code for the letter "H". And again, the magnetic panel is kinda handy to stick your parking tickets and other like stuff.

Such a cool car and design. Started seeing them more and more around London- it's bigger than I thought it would be? Just by pictures I thought it'd be like a proper little hatchback

We picked one of these up a couple weeks ago and have absolutely fallen in love! It's quirky and actually looks a lot better in person then you'd think. We get a surprising amount of head turns. 😁

Appreciated. What is the power of motor in kilo watts, operating voltage and maximum current. Which batteries have been used. How many versions of this model. Thanks and regards.

I like this car! Though it has quirky details, the profile and greenhouse reminds me of the Lancia Delta Integrale. Nice review!

The design is reminiscent of the first Hyundais all of which were designed by Giugiaro, who also designed the Delta.
