I had the opportunity to ride several models of Harleys and hands down my SG ST is my favorite. Once you accept that the ST is more of a sport style bike and get over having to maneuver around the heavy breather, it is one hell of a ride.

The black SG joke has been going on for almost 10 years now. Lol I prefer the special over the st for the money. If the MoCo would have put the Ohlin suspension and stage 2 audio the st would be my pick

I have the SGST in gunship gray. I did some mountain rides this summer and it was a lot of fun. I traded a CVO Roadglide in on it. The suspension on the ST is very good. I think there is no substitute for travel no matter how good the suspension is. I cannot tell any difference in the 2 farings either. I do wish they had put black wheels on the gray ST though. I put some Cobra slipons on and like this bike. As far as it being a sport tourer, I think it's a good start.

I have a street glide special 2019 with a 117! I bought a 21?roadglide special last year! Which I loved! But decided to trade the roadglide special for the road glide st because I like the aggressive performance bagger idea! I’m really pleased with the st! And I have something different than what I already have! My special has a look obviously and now with st I can go a different direction!

You need to learn where at on each bike that Harley measures the ground clearance and lean angle from. If the same places on both bikes when it comes down to ground clearance it’s all based off the suspension wheels and fenders. For the difference in lean angle or lack of it will be based off the frame and wheelbase of bike which both are equal so same lean angle. I would also get the ST for performance and you always change the seat most likely and I hate stretch bags too lol love the data and details you put out for us to know and be able to compare thanks so much for what you do

One guess on lean angle: the first part to touch down is floorboards, they are pretty far forward so not very impacted by extra suspension. Just a guess, though. I prefer the ST as the suspension on the special is too short for me, would swap it out.

I would think the difference between the lean angle vs ground clearance is correct because the lean angles are the same due to floor boards hitting before the ground cleance being contacted because they are measuring ground clearance in the center of the bike under the transmission

Apparently according to Cycle World, the greater lean angle is achieved due to the rear shock increased travel from 2.1" on the Special to 3" on the ST. That's a claimed 40% difference. Combine that with the regular bags instead of the stretched bags. Although both are listed the same on the HD website.

I’m going against popular opinion here and picking the ST by a pretty large margin, but I would prefer the Road Glide. I don’t like extended bags, or the lower suspension of the Special. I love looking at certain Special models in certain color/trim combinations, but the ST is the one I’d rather ride. That said, I’m either going to buy a base Road Glide or Electra Glide Standard to save big money and make changes as I want to.

Ground clearance is measured from lowest point. If the lowest point is lets say the rear fender then the ST has more. Maximum lean angle is measured in a lean. When the bike is leaning, the ground clearance measurement doesn't matter. As you are measuring what touches the ground first. In this case, foot board on the right side, jiffy stand on the left.

So I know I’m late on this comment and someone may have already said it. But the lean angle is the same due to the tires. If they have more sidewall like a sport bike lean angle would change. But since they are the same tires they can only go so far before control is an issue. Long time fan by the way. Keep it up.

  • @allwrong3114

    @allwrong3114

    2 жыл бұрын

Eric, I have had Eglides (bat wing touring bikes) since 2000. In my experience buffeting can be caused by a number of different things, even your helmet type. Every new Glide I have ever acquired got lower fairings if it didn't already come with them, and I put some of those fairing wind deflectors to push wind around the rider. The biggest mistake riders make, again in my opinion, is putting form before function. For example, guys love those short wind shields. Great. They look good but they suck on the road and promote buffeting. I always split the difference between looks and functionality and went with a 10" shield on all my glides. The more you can improve the rider's bubble the better. Good luck!

They work real well if you don't have lower fairings and you don't want to spend the cash on them. I had them on an old Dyna and a couple of street glides. I powder coated one of he sets. As for looks... I get that. We all want our bikes to look cool but cool will cost you on the highway. If you're a street rider like the Dynabros and you don't get out on the highway much if at all, then cool is good. On the highway, eventually all "bikers" learn that function over form is key. Lean is effected by a number of factors. After listening to your review, it sounds like both bikes are running the same tires and wheels. Since they both have the same profile tires, lean will most likely be the same. Regardless of the height of the St vs. the Special once you run to the edge of the tire, you run out of lean. If the ST was running a tire with the profile of a spurt bike, it would lean quite a bit more before you reach the edge of the tire.

@@snakebite6511 they don't make a Indian I like with the exception of the Chief. What you want is at least 5 years away, probably more. Same thing lots of people thought with the vrod. Good luck.

It's the tires, after the angle listed the tire runs out of contact patch and looses the grip on the road.

@@ItsTruble My Review: It’s great! I went from sport bikes to a Deluxe and now to the Road Glide ST. The ST has a good amount of leanability, plenty of power and good looks. I put a two up seat on it and passenger pegs for my son to ride with me. I’m 6’5” tall so the air cleaner gets in my way some, and the bars have way to much pull back for me, so the bars will be changed out in the near future, then there is the exhaust and it’s way to quiet. I would love it if this bike would use my apple phone for gps, without needing a flash or a mod. I have tailbone pain when I rode my deluxe for a while because I have broken my tailbone twice. I can ride the ST for hours and never have tailbone pain, but after a while your butt will eventually get tired of sitting on any seat. The fact that this bike came about because of the race series King of the Baggers is pretty badass, oh an the bronze color on the wheels, tank, and motor is sweet.

@@sixwheelcarlisle8491 thanks for your little review! Going around to dealers now trying to find the best price I’ll be able to get. I agree west must be changed and I’m debating if I do indeed get this one swapping the exhaust and possibly the cam to bring that engine to life!

@@ItsTruble I swapped out the exhaust and now I cannot really hear the speakers lol, but at speed the wind noice makes it hard to hear the speakers anyway. So there is a trade off there, and I don’t max out the speaker volume though either

It’s probably more the fault of their add on for financing and paperwork fees I used to get paid for financing and the dealership made out nicely. Now they get paid by the banks or Harley, wherever the financing is is done and still charge the customer for it as well .

The ST is kind of ugly. I wish the Street Glide Special was offered with a 131 But I wish that that red was offered every single year on the street glide. That is the most beautiful red I have ever seen. And the second I decide to buy one they'll quit making it. And then they'll offer like a black or dark blue or white or some shit I don't want. I love that red
