I bought the exact bike you're on. There were multiple reasons that I went with this bike in particular but I'm glad I did. The used bike market kept me out of that field and I absolutely love everything about the 117. It's my first Harley and I can tell you for a fact that none of the people I ride with can keep up. Between the power and cornering ability, there is no factory option comparable.

Ive been riding sport bikes over a decade and decided I wanted a bagger. How are you enjoying the bike is it worth the price how are your views on it now? Hardest part for me now is picking the street glide or the road glide. Ive always loved the SG’s look but that RG is growing on me. I’m waiting for the local shop to call for some test rides I already know I’ll most likely buy it if I test ride them. 😂🤷‍♂️

@@ItsTruble I'll take this one! I started riding in 1975, and got to the point where I stopped having time to street ride, because I was so wrapped up in club racing Ducati's. Sold my last Ducati and all the track crap two years ago because I started a business. Fast forward to four months ago, business is beyond exceeding expectations. So my MUCH better half surprised me with this bike... I can say 1000% man, you're going to LOVE this bike. I did my first group ride with HD guys in Suches and Blood Mountain a two weeks ago, and not one of those very experienced riders could begin to remain close to your tail pipes in the twisties. And that pure stock. It just has SO MUCH ground clearance, you're going to want to start reaching with your knee. In all the years I've ridden, I have NEVER loved a bike more than this one. I'm only 4 months in, and this bike is it for me... Any other I have, this will be the standard by which they are judged. This past week, I put on some 4.5' Zombie Sticks from Tab Performance, and this bike is now.... I have no words man. Nothing pithy... I just LOVE it. The sound, the absolute shoulder cranking torque on the light to light trips...

Am I feeling the ST? Yep... just bought one. Upgraded or traded my 2018 streetglide special vivid black. I think this one is an upgrade for me. 1.New infotainment. big upgrade from my old one. 2. Bigger motor that suits my riding style. high rpm riding. 3. I like to carve corners. Owned a lot of sportsbike before going to bagger route. I still like to ride hard through coners and the special I had is a bit low and it suits to its look. So no complaints there. My dealer I bought it from gave me a passenger pegs. And buddy of mine gave me his 2021 stock 2up seat. It worked out in my end. In person this thing is nice. I appreciate the details that separates it from the special. End of the day i see this as a blank canvas that i can upgrade to my own riding style. And thats part of owning a Harley Davidson. Make it your own.

Excellent points all around, man. Agree with all your assessments. I was just at the dealership today having a fender tail light installed on my Street Bob and, seeing a few '22 SGS and one '22 SG ST on the floor, I'd still go with the SGS. Like you, I prefer the standard bags on the SG ST, but the 114 is plenty for me, two-up seat (although I'd scrap it for a Saddlemen), and I like the color choices on the SGS. Have a great weekend! 🤘✌

Loving all the STs, but particularly the new SG ST & so bought one! Have got an optional 2 up seat, it’s a pretty easy swap between that and the solo (which I also swapped out for a more comfy version), but clearly had to put pegs and a sissy bar and rack on it. This way it can be dual purpose, going from me hooning around, solo seat, no bar or rack, to having a tour with my old lady and strapping some kit to it for overnight creature comforts. Combined with heated grips (we are in England here!) the additions come to a pretty penny. Plus with the price of the bike off the bat it’s pretty eye watering. Given this is the first brand new bike or car I’ve ever bought (and the first HD) I couldn’t be more pleased though with how the dealership at Guildford, have bent over backwards to help. Originally I went for a gorgeous 2018 Fat Bob, but dithering around (whilst the shop were super patient) I had to test the SG ST and promptly fell in love, but crikey like you say I could pick up a decent truck or SUV or M1000RR for similar money. Only option over here is black, unless I wanted to wait months and months for the gunship grey (sorry gray for the US folk) to get shipped over and whilst I do like that option, just as happy with vivid black. The 117 seemingly has more poke than the 114, but given that top speeds are all pretty negligible on regular streets and roads (and it’s only muppets that are bombing around highways at 130+mph), it seems most valuable at that grunty low down shift when over taking. I only had a day on the bike to realise that it’s got some awesome handling for such a big bike. Roads here can be tight and roundabouts are all over the place, but it’s got an ease of flickability that is a joy. Road surfaces here are abysmal, positively third world, pot holes, cracks, gravel and general detritus and poor maintenance, but it seems to soak it all up in its stride. Having gone from some pretty basic bikes in my time, no aids or gadgets - you know the kind of ‘open the fuel tank and peer inside, slosh it around, right I’ve got about 50 miles left’ kind of riding - means I’m not sure I could go for the standard and give up that fancy touchscreen/Bluetooth/tunes pumping out; enjoying the luxuries too much, but then I guess you get what you pay for. Throttle, love the vids buddy, please do keep them coming. I’m sorry you didn’t get to go out and test it with the Wyman bros, I’m sure that would have been a great review. Will keep watching, the motovlogs too like Blockhead, they are all great ad hugely help out everyone out there, so cheers.

Rider since 1975, motorcross as a kid. Stopped street riding and because I was wrapped into club racing Ducati's. Sold my last Duc and track kit because I started a business. Two years later, my MUCH better half surprised me with this bike as a reward for the business going nuclear; and I have NEVER, in all my years, LOVED a bike this much. If you're a sportbike guy, the twisties are yours, comfortably in distance between your pipes and your friends, and in your aftermarket seat... 🤣 I just put Tab Performance 4.5 Zombie Sticks, and this thing is a firebreathing dragon. I haven't had the stereo on so far, in the two weeks since I put the pipes on. I feel like I'm riding a P51 Mustang... Sure as hell sounds like it. This bike is also for guys who are accustomed to raw performance of street bikes. Especially if you're a kneedragger. Not one of the chodes who have flat spots on their sportbike tires...

Living in California (Harley's largest market) I truly believe it was built for us. It's easy to look at this as nothing more than an appearance package with engine upgrade for posers. Some things many out there may not know: Starting with 2021 models, we're no longer able to tune our bikes (other than the 2021 stage-2 torque cam which JUST came out last week) as CA has clamped down on owners (and manufacturers) trying to get around emissions requirements. Our bikes here have different BCMs (ECUs), need a CA-specific pro street tuner/cable, and dealers are unable to sell/install Screamin' Eagle upgrades. You can't even buy most slip-ons or 3rd party tuners for 2021+ bikes because shipping them to California is illegal. So taking a look at the ST models, they have the engine upgrade that will satisfy most who want a boost over base 107/114, have a factory warranty, have the taller Road King Standard's rear shock (which makes a hell of a difference in the ride and lean angle). They also come with the Road King Standard's clipped rear fender, non-stretched bags, and small front fender which is a look we're seeing out here more and more. The slammed look is not all the rage anymore. And the Low Rider S/ST look is also popular out here so the tail light treatment and tank badging evokes that look. That's the target market for these bikes: California buyers who are ready to spend $$$ for the small fenders, upgraded performance over stock, Low Rider look, standard bags, and taller suspension but with a factory warranty. I think this why so many reviewing the ST models outside of California don't get the point of it or think Harley didn't go far enough. A guy out here with a new RG/SG will spend WAY more than the $1500 difference over a SGS/RGS (and $7500 more over the base SG/RG) when they can just buy it in the showroom today. They vanish the minute they show up in the showrooms out here and people are paying huge markups. And we're seeing large inventories of SGS/RGS sitting in the showrooms. And as always, these trends start out here and eventually work their way across the nation - and the world. I would not be shocked to see the ST add Red and White to the Black and Grey next year. And a real winner would be a Road King ST. Just my 2 cents.

I got the road glide st and I love it! It’s my first Harley and it’s exactly what I was looking for especially coming from a super sport ( hayabusa ) it has the power that I want and it looks great!! My only complaint is kind of what you said and I wish it came with a 2 up seat. I know I’m still new to the Harley game but i wish harley would have put a 2 up seat and at least the mounting hardware, it’s easier to find passengers floor boards/ foot pegs and a sissy bar or tour pack in my opinion

I always enjoy listening to your comments, makes you sit up and ask the question what do I really want, what do I really need. The only comment that I would make is an ST will always be an ST and therefore always command a premium price. However, I’m from the UK and I spent what I consider to be a serious amount of money on my bike so I won’t be swapping and changing it because that just costs you lots of money and there’s always someone who has a bike that’s “better” than yours.

I bought a 23 SG ST because I always ride solo and I love the bronze accents. The 117 M8 and 13" shocks are a bonus for me. I have never had stretched bags, so the standard length is fine with me. I also like the RDRS and TPMS. $33k out the door I think, but I love it. Best bike I've ever had! I traded my Roadglide special 21 ! I got out of the dealership with rdrs with that last year at a little over 28g ! Dealerships are cranking these bikes up! And I drove over 100 miles to get mine! Yeah I agree with you on suspension for sure. I think front and rear would've been a bit much maybe, but rears for sure. People who want more TQ/HP may want to do aftermarket engine kits / cams anyway regardless if it's a 117 or not. They also could have done higher floor boards like MJK or Thrashin' so the boards aren't scraping. Maybe a different front crash bar to compliment the performance look a bit more. I think that those things with a 114, flat bags, tighter fender, and color highlights (variations) would have been worth a bit more money than the standard. As is I don't know if I'd pay for that.

They come in at a good price considering the gear they come with and they'll be hot on the used bike market, so you won't do your doh. Love all three ST models so far. Great looking bikes and truly think HD paid attention to what riders are doing out there. I'm not sure if I ever buy anyone though. I'm thinking of a different route. I'd like to get a road king standard, put some nice suspension, low profile front fender, nice bars, no passing lamps, and a 119 stage 3 kit. Some sort of Dyna-looking road king. I think I'd save a few bucks as compared to starting my build off any of the current ST baggers for sure. Maybe adding bags to an LRST would be a cheaper option and you can ride with no bags if you don't need them. Haven't seen any road king rider taking that direction, so maybe a fool idea... sigh. great video man, enjoy your ride!

That'd be really cool :) Thanks for pointing me to such a nice bike. I also happen to like the "gas king" (by @Garasi 19 in Indonesia). I love Harley Davidson motorcycles and I have had to of them so far with the most recent being a 2017 M8 street glide special, now in 2022 I have added taller bars, more led lighting, fan assist oil cooler and chrome. Truth be told I think HD is stalling the release of a bigger Revolution Max platform for touring models that Indian has beat them to. Also if the prices go any higher bikes will be on the show room floor until the next model year.

$2.5k for just a 3ci bigger motor! I agree with you, HD should have put better suspension on these bikes if they are targeting the performance bagger market. Both the Road Glide and Street Glide ST's should have at least come with the inverted front suspension you get on the Low Rider S & ST! I would have preferred that and being able to through a 122ci upgrade in to it. This is why the Low Rider ST will out sell both the RGST and SGST combined! And don't get me started on having to fork out the extra $$ for a two up seat and passenger footpads!!! And yes, the CVO's should have been upgraded to the 122ci engine!!

I now have an SGST and after watching several of your videos, I find myself having the same thoughts as you so, I have a question for you. In this video you said you'd go with a new exhaust and tune. What full exhaust would you go with for performance gains & tune? I'm not looking to wake the neighbors every time I start the bike. 🙂

Man I want this bike! But, I have too much vested in my impulse buy on the back end of COVID - 2020 Low Rider S. With my size and age, very uncomfortable bike for me but during COVID I watched way too many KZread videos on it and when the gloves came off I rushed out and bought one. Now the market is over saturated with FXRLS bikes and I cannot get enough out of it to stomach the loss and upgrade to a touring chassis - specifically the bike you review here. Guess if there is any lesson here for others, be sure to ride and compare the softail vs touring harley chassis. If the smaller frame is not comfy, you will not ride near as much as you should! Cheers

I agree, I would rather have better suspension then the 117. Also, on the road glide flatter bars. I am in the market and would consider these, but would be more likely to get a standard and put better suspension and a stage 3.

I own a 2009 street glide. I hate it. The damn thing is to low and the air shocks blow. Today I just sat on a ST and thought I was on a Sportster 1200R with a radio and Bags. That ST is set up right. The price, sucks for having not that great of suspension. I will be getting a Electra Glide Standard , making it my way. All the radio hook ups are all there behind that faring 😎👍🏁

I've made my decision to go with the ST vs. the Special. You mention the ST being $2500 more. I want the the Gunship Grey so the difference is only $1620 more for the ST. No brainer IMO. I don't understand why HD charges $1505 more for GG on the Special and $575 more for GG on the ST. Stretch bags and bigger fender costs that much more to paint? Oh well, anyhow, I'm going with a Gunship Grey ST and can't wait! I will be making it a two up bike so pegs and a passenger backrest. I already have a two up seat for it. Thanks for video!

I am usually close to in line with your thinking, but I have never agreed with you more. I would rather seen the ST come with the suspension and let us pick the engine bars exhaust and seat we wanted. I think it’s a huge miss to just slap a 117 and half inch taller shock in.

Maybe with enough feedback we get that on next years model? I know with supply chain issues/production that its not possible but maybe in the future they could do built to order? I mean the old bike builder was essentially just you picking parts and the dealer putting them on for you. We should be able to make that happen soon, right?

Depends on what you want/need the bike to do. Things like riding distance, passenger or no, storage, radio. A lot of things to consider. Whatever you do, don't let the size of the bike be an issue. If the bigger bikes make you nervous do a riding course to build confidence. It's better to grow into a bike than grow out of it.

The CVO should have the larger displacement. It works because you are paying for it. A performance bagger vs. the top of the line CVO. It is a no brainer. Saying otherwise just shows you don't get it and you can't afford it. Having the money to buy it and not getting what you pay for ends the deal immediately. Given who they chose as a new CEO it figures Harley Davidson does not get it. You make choices based upon your budget. The price is the expectation and the CVO does not meet that expectation.

First things first I’m NOT a anti Harley guy I think they are great bikes and company with great dealer network made in America 🇺🇸 That being said Indian a Polaris Co also American and made in America is building better bikes let’s not ignore that fact. Secondly 30K for a bike that’s ok fast you can go to any other bike manufacturers and get more power and performance and save money how and why Harleys are so expensive I can buy a Ducati hand built in Italy just like the Harley made in America and have a waaaayyyy faster bike for less. I’m just saying Harley if possible either needs to build actual performance bikes or drop the prices on they’re bikes or other manufacturers are just giving they’re stuff away. Just food for thought what does everyone else think of it not being a full blown Harley or nothing rider.

As far as speed, that’s something Harley will never be known for. A 2004 GSXR 600 will outrun pretty much any Harley out there. I think the experience on a Harley is unlike anything else. Is that experience worth the premium price tag? I guess that’s for the buyer to decide. I’ve owned a lot of different brands and will continue to do so. I like riding styles that Harley doesn’t have a bike for. But as far as a bike with what I’d describe as soul, I’ve yet to find anything that does it like a Harley.
