I am a bit disappointed that we don’t get the 3.3 litre twin turbo V6 in the Genesis G70. This has 370 horsepower and 376 pound feet of torque, with an 8AT and either RWD or AWD. The acceleration figures (0-100kmh) are 4.7 seconds (RWD) and 5 seconds (AWD). As well as North America, the twin turbo V6 is also available in the Middle East, South Korea and Australia.

Pretty informative review. Personally, I like the dual headlight feature on the car, especially with the dal's on. I'm not sure why the review has so many clips of the pre-facelift G70 though. You're doing a review of a 2nd gen car, but you're showing clips of a gen 1 car. And the side plastic pieces are actually functional. It's a bit unnecessary the way they designed it, but the bottom portion of the vent is real, and used for brake cooling. If you look closely from within the wheel well, you'll be able to see the slit and the inside of the vent.

Genesis is favorably reviewed in the USA, and the cars and SUVs are designed for the US market, I think. The front end split headlights is a brand design feature found across the board on their vehicles now and looks better on the larger vehicles like the G80 here. At least now Genesis has its own distinctive look rather than its imitation of features from Mercedes and Audi. Apparently, Hyundai hired many engineers and designers from Audi and BMW to develop the new Genesis designs and to engineer the ride, handling, etc. My opinion, for what its worth, is that Genesis has great cars and SUVs for the price (and even price-independent). But the marketing effort in the US lacks the factors needed for to break into the upper echelon brands. One notable factor is that they are sold in Hyundai dealers. Lexus dealers especially are "quite an experience" in the USA. They set the standard for treating the customer "like royalty." Genesis at Hyundai -- not so much. The great looking shooting brake is not available in the US unfortunately. Based on what we see from Hyundai/Kia, I expect to see hybrid and colete EVs from Genesis soon. ( interesting that you mention the Stinger from Kia which is beloved by auto reviewers here, but failed to generate sales.)

Tish… 31 of 50 US states do require front plates, along with 3 out of 10 Canadian provinces. It was just a styling decision, much like with Alfa Romeos, which sell very few cars in North America. Hope you’re enjoying your holidays!

Here is one fact about Genesis. The only European countries that Genesis is sold are the UK, Germany and Switzerland. It’s currently not for sale in other European countries like France, Italy or Spain. But Genesis is hopeful to expand to other European nations.

I really like it. I'd be happy sitting in the cabin. We won't get Genesis in Ireland, but perhaps the odd one will be imported. I can't see many BMW and Mercedes owners changing to one of these, though. But, I'd be intrigued to see how they sell.

Needs the V6. Like the big three premium brands you should always get them with a big engine. If you don’t you may as well go mass market as the whole car is designed to allow for the big engine and you get much less space inside/boots pace than a VW etc with a transverse four cylinder

This car is a bit of a dark horse and Tish you’re right, this should be offered in a plug-in hybrid as that would help drastically with benefit in kind tax! Although it’d be hard work for them to produce something efficient as the regs get tighter every year!

Great video as always, Tish! Hope you’re having a great time on vacation! I actually seriously considered a G70 3.3T Sport back in 2020 when I was getting ready to get a new car. You are seriously missing out on the V6 - loads of torque and it doesn’t run out of steam at high RPMs like many turbo engines - but we are missing out on the wagon in the US. I personally thought the G70 3.3T Sport I test drove handled better than the old F30 3 Series and the current A4. Plus the value was incredible - in the low $50k region for a fully equipped model. I do prefer the design of the pre-facelift, though. The split lights at starting to grow on me, but time will tell. Keep up the great work, pal!

Informative review, thank you. In current times (May 2022), the brand is less important as a manufacture's delivery time-line of an ordered new car. I paid a deposit for a BMW on 30th April 2021. Car was built in Feb 2022 in South Africa. Arrived in Germany awaiting a RAM to be fitted end of April 2022. We are now coming to end of May 2022 (Car still in Germany still missing a RAM) and UK BMW, could only say expect delivery delay from now till 2023. It is also a high model, a M model and full spec. 13 month wait and counting towards 18 months. Point being, if a manufacturer can make and deliver in a reasonable time-frame (6 months), previous brand loyalty or like, will be replaced by access and speed of delivery. I'm close to becoming one of those that brand like is rapidly declining to who can get me into a new car under 12 months!

I had the same thoughts going on as you mentioned about some of the "shortcomings" of the G70 (especially involving unnecessary styling cues and those headlights), Tish. And like you, I would certainly favor the Shooting Brake (wagon in my country, the US) over the sedan because of the lack of legroom in the back (though I personally liked how you looked when you were sitting there ;) ). Not sure how many diesels (like the one you tested) will sell, given how massively expensive the cost has risen for it lately (nearly $7/gallon here!), and Genesis missed out by not offering some form of hybrid option here. And speaking of striking, you looked the part, Tish (just as gorgeous in leggings as you are in a dress! or miniskirt). :)

Diesel's are still very relevant, even though they're being demonised by pretty much everyone these days. Most vans, trucks and heavy machinery are all still diesel. Ships, trains etc - all diesel. Every generator ever made is diesel. When people call diesel's 'oil burners' it annoys me - a modern diesel car (with DPF and adblue) is actually very clean and economical - in fact, modern diesel's output less emmissions per km than most petrol's. Less than 20 years ago, diesel's were the future, but now they're being pushed into extinction because everyone's in love with EV's these days - aren't they?
