2022 Ford Mustang GT Gen 3 Coyote Dyno: With & Without Carbon Trap | Good Gains!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The gen 3 Coyote engine was down 10 horsepower and 10 pound feet of torque for the 2022 and 2023 model year Mustang GTs. This was because of the addition of a carbon trap fitler in the lid of the air intake system. The carbon trap is used to soak up fuel vapor that escapes out through the air intake.
Well, like anything that robs performance, enthusiasts don't want any part of that and will do whatever they can to reclaim the lost power. That's the case for the carbon trap. In this video, you'll see how much horsepower and torque is lost with the addition of the carbon trap.

I pulled mine today and the butt dyno is definitely happy. Feels much quicker in the mid range and on take off. Used to be a little sluggish from 2k-4k in 1st-3rd. No CEL in the first 25 miles or so. I was able to remove it without cracking the housing, it just slipped out.

Great content as always, why did they use a two piece drive shaft? Mine is a 2016 GT. Seems like a major weak point. Thank’s.

Way less NVH than a one piece driveshaft. They're fairly stout, but for a manual car you do want to use a slick/bias ply at the track to not shock the drivetrain.

Landan- Did y'all measure AFR with this test, or is doing this trap removal irrelevant with the factory widebands and gen 3 tuning? Several shops have made these carbon trap removal videos, but no one has mentioned AFR readings. Can you enlighten a gen 3 newbie? Thanks!

Thanks for the comment and question. Removing the carbon trap has no effect on the air/fuel ratio. They're for emissions purposes. -Landan

Great video, was this test a simple carbon filter element delete or was it a done with a non-carbon trap lid and MAF housing?

The MAF housing sizes are the same. We just used the lid from a 2021 car since we had laying around. You could easily remove the carbon trap element from the 2022 lid by breaking the plastic welds. -Landan

Wonder if it is just as effective removing the filter from the 22 box top? Or is a replacement from an earlier model required? Asking for a friend LOL.

The carbon filter is super restrictive. Pull the top and rip the filter and the cage holding it in out. Takes 5 min and get your power back. What I did

What about the plastic grid that’s in the 22’ gts? Do I just need to removed the carbon filter to gain this or both?

The plastic grid/housing for the carbon trap could restrict airflow. I don't know this for a fact, but just by looking at it, one could make that assumption. But to answer your question, yes, you can remove the grid/housing from the lid. Thanks. -Landan
