2022 125 Two Stroke Shootout - Motocross Action Magazine

Спорт

#motocross #dirtbike #competition #motorcycle
In a world full of smartphones, smart TVs, smart cars and virtual-reality programs, we strive to get away from the hustle and bustle of the internet by spending much-needed time at the track. Even there, four-strokes, with their computer-programmed ECU mapping and Wi-Fi tuning, are more digital than ever. Don’t get us wrong, we drool over the latest dirt bike technology (at least the stuff that works). We love racing four-strokes, and we’re thankful for fuel injection and electric starting, but there’s something beautiful about a simple two-stroke engine that brings a smile to every MXA test rider’s face. The fun-to-use powerbands, lightweight handling and distinct two-stroke melody light a fire that makes us forget about looming electric bikes, Zoom meetings and virtual-reality programs.
We had a blast conducting last year’s “2021 125 Shootout,” so when Yamaha introduced a brand-new YZ125 for 2022, it was imperative that we schedule the bikes for a rematch. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a 2022 TM 125MX because of COVID-related issues in Holland. Of course, we would have gotten our hands on a Fantic 125XX, but their agreement to platform-share Yamaha’s frame and engine forbids them from importing bikes to the USA.

My 05 rm125 is the best handling motocross bike I have ever ridden. Fast 125 I have rode but haven’t rode a newer KTM125 but have had 2 ktm150sx and it’s close. rm125 probably has little better bottom end.

I picked up a 300 mx. It makes my YZ125 feel like a tugboat in comparison. Thing corners like lightning. Engine is mean as hell. Only two stroke I've been on that doesn't get yarded by 450s on straights. In fact, I can now yard THEM. A shootout without TM isn't a shootout. It's 3 and a half KTM's

Kawasaki need to resurrect their KX125 ~ 2 Stroke ❤‍🔥💀 I like the YZ125 as my pick from this shootout. As a recreational rider I think this would suit me best. I priced the new 2022 YZ125 here in Australia, and it is way more expensive than in the USA. Best deal I could get was $10,990 !! We have a few local dealers for GasGas, on the east coast here but haven't priced one, would probably be a bit less expensive than the Yamaha, and maybe a better option for the budget. But I do like the new YZ 125 🙃

We do with every shootout. Sometimes the video is the last piece to the puzzle. We aren't first on 4 stroke shootouts because we are racing them every weekend and taking them to different tracks over several months. You aren't going to find out what breaks or really much on a one day shootout ever. We use our faster riders for the videos but ALWAYS have a wide variety of test riders from young/old/fast/slow/skinny/fat. Don't believe us? Follow us on our social channels if you don't already. Thanks for watching!

MotoGP switching to 4t had nothing to do with Cali. Honda is the main reason they were banned in MX and MotoGP. I hate Honda for what they did and I own two (03 CR250, trx400ex).

I ride a 2019 Sherco ser 125 and l like the bike in general after a few changes i.e. S3 pegs factory lowering link (20mm) lowered seat (20mm) gearing to suit hard enduro mid and top end power are awesome but it is a little hard to get it to snap off the bottom dew to what it seems to be heaver fly wheels which do work well for single track i tried to buy a ktm 150 but couldn't find one for love nor money so l gave the sherco a run and l have not been disappointed they certainly no how to build a great bike l cant wait till next test hopefully you guys can get a full house to test time cheers

I'm super glad we've got 2-strokes to ride after the magazines bitched for years and nearly killed them (not all magazines but most). That said, it looks like we've got a good bunch to choose from. Since we not all pros, I would bet most of us would be happy with any one of these rigs; I know that I would. The eval? Well, sometimes I think a lot of these testers would bitch if you hung them with a new rope. I think there's something in there for everybody and the way we now personalize our bikes.....just how much real difference is there? Enough to sell magazines, I'd say................we'll see how they do at the races, not just the pros. It has been amazing how very good the original design was with just small updates. We'll see how good the new layout is as the year rolls by. There simply is no bike as fun as a responsive 125......they seem to weight nothing at all!!

Yamaha makes great work on bikes, racing and for customer. Test is Boring, seems 1 vs 1.... I make 3 Companies to sell 1 Product in different Colors. High price, and many pieces.... Why? Normally when they make many pieces its not so expensive.....people laughing about suzuki but ktm didn't change so much (only higher price)...

Shootouts are pretty stupid. Especially when you see them flip flopping about opinions of pretty much the same freaking bike. KTM, Husky, and GasGas are the same damn bike, with interchangeable parts across the board. These 3rd tier pro riders opinions pretty much mean dick to me because if you have ever met one of these guys, all they do is complain that the track isn't perfect, and that the bike isn't setup for them. They want every bike to be exactly how they want it, and when it isn't they refuse to adapt any riding style to fit the machine. Their opinions don't apply to 99% of the consumer, yet they put these videos out with all of these meaningless opinions. If you are a pro rider you are definitely never taking a bike you haven't personalized, out on the track. So stop reviewing these bike like that. If you are a casual rider you probably won't hardly touch a clicker and won't even notice a difference between any of these bikes. If you are an enthusiast you probably have 5 or 6 different bikes, for 5 or 6 different purposes, and actually like differences in clutch feel, suspension settings, and power delivery, and adapt your riding to each bike. If you took the time to read this whole comment, the moral of the story is take every word of a pro rider shootout opinion with a grain of salt.

Can you guys include descriptive terms and analysis? Read bike tests late 80s early 90s. They went into power characteristics, where bikes made their power, where were their advantages and disadvantages? What are they like to ride. Clutch, transmission, brakes, how do they work? Quoting lap times is useless to a viewer or reader. Describe. The ktm description sounded like a script or pamphlet. What is the low end, mid, and top like? Turning characteristics? Etc. Thank you.
