    Just installed. Seems to be a better position but I haven’t been on a good ride with yet. The stock seat was good already for 2 300 mile rides but this feels like it will be better. Oh, the 3 push pins that go in tank are different from the others. Figured out when I couldn’t get one to secure. They look very similar on a shelf. Other than that I had it done in less than 30 minutes. I wasn’t in a hurry. Thanks

    Very cool, thanks for showing the details of the install! Even if it should be easy its always great to quickly see what hurdles someone else might have come across. I'v not ridden my T9 yet as here in Denmark winter insurance is absurdly expensive, i'll test it out in a few weeks time. Sadly getting that kit imported is going to be a bit of a pain if i end up needing it.

    If you had to, you could probably make your own, largely from parts sourced from the local hardware or home improvement store. Find some plastic or metal spacers and slightly longer bolts. You could likely use stacked washers to fine tune it 1mm at time... The tricky part would be making the offset rubber grommet. You could probably easily make one out of a solid piece of rubber or plastic, and then just shave it down so that it slides in there, and drill the holes to correspond to the amount of washers you added under the main mount?

    I hate seats that cant forward like that. in the past on bikes that don't have an option to shim, I have removed the seat cover and carefully re shaped the foam so it's flatter, then added back a new layer of memory foam on top of that. worked well and made a huge difference.

    I think you really do need a goofy tall screen. The ONLY screen that worked close on my 17 Tracer, and I tried lots, was the Puig touring with the deflector. Anything slightly smaller caused noise. I use a tiny screen in summer made from a cut down mra with holes drilled to match the Puig so just 4 small bolts to swap over. Great video, Imdid a similar bodge a few years ago, this is way neater. Yamaha are a bunch of..Seat and screen have been a problem since 2014. How many potential buyers are put off because of this?

    so i took a testride on one of these today, and i found a bit of a pressure point on the backside of my bottom, basically where your back meets your ass, right around the tailbone. the seat was mounted in the higher position, would you say this would more evenly distribute the pressure over the entire surface instead of focussing everything towards the back? i'm 90% sure i'm gonna get one but i do need to get this figured out and set the bike entirely to my liking, not just 95% y'know

    by using t/he lower position of the front seat mount, haven't you just moved the bracket up and left the seat where it was or maybe even lower?

  • @SquireSCA

    @SquireSCA

    2 жыл бұрын

    No, the bracket moves up so it being in that bracket, the front of the seat comes up 8mm. The goal is to level it, by only lifting the front

  • @neilallwood4943

    @neilallwood4943

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@SquireSCA Didn't you say that you originally had the seat in the high position but now you installed it in the low postion? The difference between those positions is more like 20mm (guessing) so you moved the seat down by 20mm then up by 8mm with the shims lifting the seat bracket. Had you left it in the high position, I agree you have lifted the front of the seat by 8mm but not if you change from the high to the low.

  • @SquireSCA

    @SquireSCA

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@neilallwood4943 Yes, I explained why in the end, I wanted to ride in the low position if possible. I want to be more in the bike, than perched on top of it getting blasted by wind. But the forward pitch isn;t comfortable... The seat needs to be level. As I can't lower the rear, I needed to raise the front. So basically the front is now in the higher position(almost) and the rear is in the low position

  • @SquireSCA

    @SquireSCA

    @@neilallwood4943 In a nutshell, I wasn't looking to shim the seat to raise it. I wanted to raise the front, in relation to the rear, so that it sits more flat, and not so sloped down to the front.

  • @neilallwood4943

    @neilallwood4943

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@SquireSCA Totally agree with your intentions, not sure you achieved it with slotting the seat into a lower position than before. The only thing that you acheived was to raise the low position of the front seat mount by 8mm which is 12mm (approx) lower than where you had originally had the seat. All that really matters is that you are happy with the result. Ride safe.

    Did you put the seat in the right height slot? I believe that it is made for either the top, so there should not be a gap. If you mount the seat in the lower position then there might be. Or vice-versa, I forget which.

    It improved it a bit, but in all honesty, the seat is still pretty uncomfortable on longer rides. When I am in the mtns and moving around a lot, its fine. When I go on a longer ride like I did this week, its very uncomfortable. I am not sure how long I will keep this bike. @@SquireSCA understand. I don’t know how you do it at 6’4 in the low position for the seat. I will say the air hawk and being in the upper setting is pretty solid. I didn’t really realize how I needed my butt to take pressure off of my knees. Yeah I can see how touring is not at all this bike’s strong point. I came from a super tenere and it was well suited for that. Very comfortable and tons of space and options for you to strap shit onto. Might try this without buying the kit...my thinking is simply use washer stacks in place of plastic spacer and then simply find a larger rubber grommet in place of the offset special one...I think the slop above it will be fine and if not a squirt of silicone seal into the void with overnight to harden will effectively create an offset grommet...not to cheap out but I honestly don't know if it raising the seat slightly in front is really going to help any....and spending money to accomplish nothing just irks me...maybe if I A really like the result and B am not happy with the washer stacks and oversized grommet?
