Fun fact: IMUs are used to measure acceleration. Six axis IMU means that the IMU is capable of measuring the 3 axes of linear acceleration in X,Y,Z (up/down, left/right, front/back) as well as rotational acceleration around each of the 3 X,Y,Z axis (yaw/pitch/roll).

I just bought a standard model 2021 MT-09 a few weeks ago. I've been dialing in the suspension and tire air pressures, with very noticeable results. The standard settings and air pressures are NOT optimum. I'm not through dialing it in, but even so, I am so freaking happy with this thing!

There’s still some snap to the throttle in d2, it’s completely gone at d3. I always keep tc in manual so I can have tcs and lif at 1 and slc at 2 because I’m only comfortable with my Harley cutting loose when I’m leaned over. I’m definitely going to take mine out now because I’m jealous of watching Chase get all the wheelie fun

OC: This could possibly be the perfect bike, at least until the new MT-10 comes out. My '14 FZ-09 has Ohlins front and rear which really improves the ride, as well as a tune, full Yoshimura exhaust, intake mod, and lots of Woodcraft goddies. I wish mine had cruise control and the other rider aids but it performs pretty well for what it is. I'll have to keep an eye out for a demo day and give the new SP a try. I may be tempted to trade mine in for one! Also, mode 4 (from how you explained it) seems like a newbie could get this bike and work their way up the power band. Like they could just grow with this bike, especially with all the electronic rider aids. Great video Chase!

MT stands for "master of Torque" but should be "Master of Wheelies"! Fun bike for sure! I saw a dude doa wheelie from 1st through 5th grear! bike is insane fun! but the electronics on it are good enough to contain the bike as well. I think this sector of bikes is where its at! Things like MT-09 SP, 890 Duke R, Street Triple RS, Streetfighter V2 and maybe MV Agusta 800 RR? Perhaps z900 and GSX-S750? My buddy has MT-09, and I almost bought one. I had liter bikes (R1M, GSX-R1000R) and other fun bikes (Super DUke R, Street Triple R). My Triple R got ran over by a truck in a supermarket parkinglot recently, and I needed to pick a new bike. I look at liter bikes (ZX-10R, GSX-R1000R) and maybe a new Super DUke R, but ended up picking up the 80 Duke R. Almost went with a MT-09 or XSR900 (I was looking for z900RS (non cafe but could not find one of those). What turned me to the DUke over MT-09 was the suspension on it, the torque down low, the looks, the breaks (being able to put ABS into supermoto where I can slide rear wheel and doo stopies b/c ABS doesn't get on the way), and the amoutn of customization on electronics (which was what won me over the Triple RS along with the lower torque). Love that bike now! (890) BUt My buddy has MT-09 and we swap, and this bike is a beast and a lot of fun! Chase: you going to swap MT-10 for the MT-09 SP? Or have you looked at XRS900? Also, what is chance of getting KTM ot lend an 890 Duke R and doing a Duke v MT-09 v street triple maybe? not sure if you guys can do that, but it'd be awesome of you could. as for perfect bike, It is dam good, again, I prefered 890 DUke R for Canyon blasting and it felt more stable, and I like the lower torque curve over the two triples I was looking at. OC

OC: I have the 2021 standard model MT-09 and I’d like the SP for sure based on looks and cruise control. I think Yamaha did make the perfect bike. My only complaint is the menu wheel as well. A little difficult to use. Still a very minor complaint.

@@1955Paawpabear suspension - better adjustability to front forks, ohlins rear shock, stock one is pretty bad if you ride the twisties hard. Also has cruise control, a polished rear swingarm, custom paint.. I have the base model, and am already changing the forks and searching for a rear shock. If you've never rode a really good suspended bike you won't even think about it.

Hi chase, is Yamaha mt09 a good beginner bike? what do you think if a total beginner choses mt09 as their first bike? and if someone from a 150cc cycle can handle the mt09, thanks!

Wait for 2022 XSR900 or go for 2021 MT09SP? Both are pretty much the same bike! Not sure if 2022 XSR900 will be coming to US or when it will come!

I never know how to feel about quick shifters. It feels like driving an automatic - don't really like it. But at the same time they are so much fun when you just wanna yeet in a straight line.

OC: This bike is absolutely perfect. I waited 4 months for my SP. Your emotions throughout the entire ride is exactly how I feel every time I get on my bike. Once you’re in power mode 1 you never go back. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of this bike

The other day I was riding in the dark and you can't see the buttons. So ended up pressing like all the wrong buttons on the left side. Then, I thought I had a major issue with my bike, as it lost huge amount of power. Wouldn't accelerate anymore. Turned out I put in mode 4 by accident... I fully agree with your review. I have the standard with upgraded suspension and new rear shock since 4 months to drive in the twisties / hooligan. 7000 miles now. Enjoy your bike!

Except that the Yamaha isn't leaking oil from the factory due to a Made in China (yes, really) engine.

OC: Awesome video as always!! Would you say this bike could work for a taller somewhat of a beginner rider? Could someone keep it on mode 4 and work their way up as they get more comfortable? Seems like the rider aides can be beneficial for someone with less experience. Just to be clear, I'm not saying a brand new rider. I'm referring to a more mature rider who perhaps has not ridden in a while.

I have the tracer 9 gt 2018, I wanted the mt09, I liked the engine, but it was too damn small, 1.9m tall The tracer gt is sweet for my size, I messed with the modes initially but I'm always running it in A mode these days B mode being the rain 🌧 mode was very forgiving and eased me into it

I didn't drive for 13 years and bought this. No problem at all. Drove it in Mode 4 for about 5 min. Then changed it to mode 1. Figured I got used to it already during the break in period where you can not exceed 5000 RPM anyway. Worked out perfectly. Have 7000 miles on it now in 3-4 months without issues. went to a front 15T 2 months ago too. great bike, lots of fun, lots of wheelies

OC: As someone who’s had an MT07 for a while and it being the only motorcycle I’ve ever had, is it worth upgrading to the new MT09? Or should I wait and see what the new MT10 is cooking up first? Curious what y’all think.

I'm in the same boat, only had my XSR700 as first bike for a few years and ready to upgrade to more power/comforts. I'm kinda holding out for 2022 MT10 to see how it's upgraded but I do more 70+ mph riding than city stuff and they're also both major price differences and insurance costs, etc.

Does anyone know if chase has a video of the cb650r? I couldn't find one. I always wanted an MT09, but I do some highway ridding on my MT07 every now and then and it doesn't feel very stable at all, specially since I live in a windy area. The MT09 is not much heavier, so im afraid it would be the same issue. The CB650R is a bit heavier, I hear it is a bit more stable, but I would love to see a good review of it.
