    I am in the medicare age group, obtained my motorcycle endorsement earlier this year, bought new 2022 MT09SP. This is a first for me, had jury duty last year and a young female juror was talking about how much she likes riding her motorcycle and here I am. My hands were shaking when I signed the paperwork at the dealer last week. Only 300 miles and have much to learn. Wish I'd have discovered this passion earlier in life. My co-workers are a bit taken aback about this motorcycle. I like the sound of the exhaust, and the industrial look of the exposed weld beads, will leave that stock. Can hardly wait to get up tomorrow and drive to work, been tough sleeping the last few days. HELL YEAH!

    Hi, I'm not sure what age medicare is, however I'm north of 60. I learnt to ride at 8 years of age, had many bikes big, small, and raced them. I currently have an MT09 and others, I wouldn't recommend an MT09 as a first bike they are very quick up to 200 kph, stay safe my friend .

    Coming from performance cars I've had a couple of brand new engines and after the rings mate to the bore the engine gets louder most times. If you heard my subaru its like someone slapping wrenches in the bay at times but thats just normal for a 1000hp capable subaru and I'm sure your cp3 is fine. I get my 2023 xsr next week and i really appreciate and enjoy the content!

    I just remembered another brake trick (other than the special brake grease behind the pads) I used this one on my ktm floating brakes that stopped grinding noise! A little known problem where some of the rivets (for lack of a better word the pins that hold the rotor to the base plate making them "float" they can sieze up and simply need some solvent lube and be spun to free them up like new ...it can be really hard to turn them and the trick then is to use a machine screw with two washers and a nut putting the screw with a washer through one side and another washer and the nut on the other then tighten just enough that you can turn the screw causing the rivet to spin freeing up and and able to accept a drop of lube ...just be careful not to get lube on the rotor! It worked on my ktm have not tried it yet on the tracer but it also has not honked in a long while Also I am thinking rubber washers between the steel washer and the river might get better traction if they are really frozen! Definaly would not want to use a stout bolt and crank it so much it actually tightened things! Which I cant imagine it requiring much before it could be spun....just saying

    Great video - great info. You never mentioned any CPU re=flash? I thought all 2-21 MT09s had to have a re-flash? If so, did the engine run better? I found a delaer with a 2021 MT09 left over or IDK, returned? I watched it disappear out of inventory twice, oncein fall of 2021 and spring of 2022 (same serial #s), only to re-appear in July of 2022. It's sat on the floor ever since. Problem is they want as much money for it as a new 2023, claiming it's brand new??? I wondered if it has something to do with the reflash? I have watched/read that some 2021 MT09 ran like crap before the reflash. Ride safe.....

    Interesting to hear about that ‘21 mt09 coming in and out of inventory. Sounds like there’s something questionable about the bike 🤷‍♂️. I had the bike reflashed after I made this video. Before the reflash it would sometimes stall when taking off at low speeds (only happened twice, but super unsafe if you’re in traffic!). It’s been running well since the reflash though, aside from the fact that it’s burning oil 🤯.

    Some things never seem to die, like flat earth theory, like new engine break in jargon. Drive it like you want to use the bike right off the bat. Dump oil a couple of times early, good to go. If the manufacturer was so concerned about limiting RPM from new, they wouldn't be wailing on that new engine on a set of rollers at the end of the assembly line.

    Break in is a myth..

  • @exothermal.sprocket

    @exothermal.sprocket

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@ballzmckgee3167 Wrong terminology usage. Break-in is a mechanical physical thing, yet due to manufacturing technology and metallurgy changes over the decades of combustion engine designs, it's been reduced to almost a non-factor for the majority of consumers, which is why many engines (speaking of Japanese) have very similar horsepower after several thousand miles of extremely variable and different sorts of uses. The assembly line at the factory gets the process started early when the final engine run test is conducted. All rpm, good load, and full revs are used to test the engine before releasing for shipment distribution. The break-in stickers and explanations in manuals on motorcycles are lawyer-isms. Has to do with new rider liability, the time it takes for someone to become familiar with a new motorcycle, and it's an ultimate back-stop for manufacturer liability protection from consumer lawsuits, if the consumer would claim ANYTHING (any kind of failure which could lead to Murphy's Law worst case scenarios) had to do with the corporation's design and/or assembly processes. Run the new engine in such a way to heat-cycle it, makes sure it gets variable RPM, make sure it gets full loads. Make sure to flush out oil a couple times very early in mileage to get rid of the metal particles. You'll achieve the best possible compression, ring-sealing, horsepower, efficiency, engine longevity, oil purity by doing this. But it's all fractional, it's all projected over a long period of time, most people don't keep motorcycles very long to realize the long term benefits, most don't think too heavily about these sorts of things, and most are happy to trust anything the lawyers and manufacturers say.

    Engine noise complaints concern the hydraulic cam chain tensioner that has a tendency to lose adequate oil pressure after cold starts at idle. if the noise disappears upon raising the revs slightly this is the likely culprit. Annoying but not catastrophic.

  • @TylerCharest

    @TylerCharest

    Жыл бұрын

    I've sold my MT07, but here's what I can share with you now...at low speeds, the MT07 turning radius is MUCH better than on the MT-09...If I had to guess, I'd say the range of motion on the MT07 bars is between 10-15 degrees more than on the 22 MT09. This really only matters when you're going under 5 mph, once your up to speed the difference won't matter much, if at all. Hope that helps! Thanks for the comment ✌

    While I dont own the identical bike mine (T9GT) is essentially just a +pork version of the same base platform (same,engine, frame, wheels, brakes at least) I aggree with the engine noise just after break in ...it actually is scary sounding compared to brand new. I only have 1200ish miles and have not heard the brake noise yet but i DID experience an electronic glitch after stopping to wait for another rider...I think I killed the motor with the kill switch rather than the key and probably maybe left the key on for a minute or two before moving the bike 50ft or so up into the shade....anyway something about that glitched the system and suddenly when I took off I found I had no quick shifter as well as various other functions AND the check engine light came on! The bike was plenty cool plenty of oil but it refused to clear and return to normal...I was near the top of the mountain road close to my home so I astually had decided to pretty much coast home and then get it to the dealer...I even pulled the seat and looked at the fuses being one of the few other things I could really check (it had just the previous day blown a 2 amp fuse when I tried to use a mini compressor plugged into the OEM power port ...A 2amp fuse?? Seriously Yamaha? Damn the smallest compressor (Slime nrand) uses 5 amps!) Anyway all looked fine there so I finally put the seat back on after the bike had sat for 1/2 hour or so I started it to head home...guess what? Totally had cleared the check engine light and all functions returned....weird sh!t maynard! I too am seriously thinking of picking up that ext warranty! Or maybe finding a bike I like even more idk...the only thing about the Tracer is it weighs 70 more pounds than stripped MT09 version and a lot of that pork is for touring 2 up with luggage which I will never 2 up tour and maybe not even really tour 1 up so why have the pork? Really I was attracted more to the features and windscreen than anything else...cost a lot both in cash and in pork

    There are many days that I wish the MT had a front fairing and side bags! Although I do appreciate the general lightness of the naked version. That’s a weird electrical glitch! And a 2amp fuse 😂…I suppose it’s good for charging small electronics? If you’re commuting longer distances, the fairing on the T9 might make the ride less taxing physically than something without the fairing 🤷‍♂️. Either way, I hope you’re enjoying the ride!

    BTW anyone hear that Yamaha is about to release an R9? Which I assume will be the same basic platform/engine but with full fairing , shorter wheel base and more track oriented steering geometry ....assuming upgraded front brakes and suspension plus 2 or 3k bucks price point...that is all based on the R7 vs the MT07 btw not because I am smart or know anyone at Yamaha. Will be an awesome bike but will be hard on the body and wrists compared to the relaxed ergos of MT....But the premium performance might be worth it? idk? Check out Yammie Noob video titled something like "is the R7 the same bike as MT07?" Where they concluded that while basically the same bike the R7 is way better handling wise ...just premium compared to MT...If that holds true for the R9? And it is way better than the already nice MT09? THAT seems really tempting to want to get! Maybe?

    I own basically the same platform motorcycle 2022 Tracer 9gt Identical frame engine wheels brake rotors and calipers etc and so I share some of your frustrations with this platform espeially the engine noise which I am now suspecting is the throttle bodies need balancing but we shall see. My front brakes make no noise but occasionally the rear brakes HONK pretty loudly! No rhyme nor reason when just weird as hell! But I love my bike! Even if it is SEVENTY POUNDS heavier than it's MT sibling! I am actually thinking of buying an MT09 as my second street bike to ride only in the canyons and then only use the Tracer for trips and all day runs or maybe even selling it and buying something substantially larger with a drive shaft for all my touring? I also then might end up selling the MT that will still be fairly new come spring of 2024 to buy an R9! Which I may put a deposit on asap idk Yamaha has not officially announced the model but they have trademarked the name R9 and it makes perfect sense to not only fill the gap between the overly tame R7 and the overly muscular R1. And having phased out the R6 from production there is no Yamaha Sportbike left with the same power level as the R6 which an R9 WOULD not only provide that but do so with easy to ride TORQUE the hyper active R6 never had! The MT 09 platform AS IS except with a full fairing and clip ons? would be an AWESOME little sportbike! WIth the SP suspension it would be even more awesomer lol plus I assume they might give it some better brakes while they are at it ....maybe even the R1 rotors and calipers why not? Personally I would love if they also gave it semi active suspension like the Tracer9 has! Because I stink when it comes to understanding how to tune suspension so I LOVE that the 6 axis IMU or whatever is involved is doing all that adjusting for me! Well I mean except the preload which I can deal with that and the choice between A1 (sport riding) and A2 (touring) which is two buttons one to select that mode and the other to toggle between the two. All the other rebound and compression changes are done automatically on the fly in hundreths of a second or whatever of sensing a change in terrain and riding

    3000 miles? That's nothing Not even half a summer. Are you not using it? The oil is not the same as the run in oil. So once you get that out it will sooner or later be louder. Nothing wrong with it anyway. Funny they sell extended warranty where you live. In my country all Yamaha has 5 years warranty from start (no charge). Suzuki has 7 years.

    Yamahas come with a five year warranty?! I wish they offered that in the US!

    As for the brakes you have to ride it hard they have race pads you have to get them hot you don't buy a mt09 to ride like a girl 😉

    This was not a good review. Engine is fine and there is no need for extended warranty; you want to burn your dollars, fine, don't mislead others. You are supposed to break it in aggressively. Clearly you did not know that this engine is rated the most reliable motorcycle engine in the world. The loudness of the engine is due to finally using normal oil; it comes with thick mesh from factory for the break-in period, after which not only does the engine turn more freely (therefore the different sound), the transmission also works better. The obvious problems you did not even mention, maybe because you did not even know what to look for. 1-The fuel gauge sucks! They fixed it on the new XSR900; SHAME on YAMAHA! 2-The settings gear wheel on the right handle, is deplorable, hit and miss, and very poorly designed 3-Gear foot lever is low-budget bad, bad design! It needs to be cut, extended by 1/2 inch and lowered by 15° - only then will the quick-shift work smoothly - both up and down 4-Headlight is pathetic; poor alignment and not bright enough at night 5-Needs a proper windshield 6-Should have a more comfortable seat - they intentionally sell it with an uncomfortable seat to make a profit 7-MT09SP wheels blue color paint is poor quality; chips off too easily 8-ABS system is horrible; that is why the brakes seem so terrible

    Hey M Aldridge, the observations and issues that you've listed here clearly show that you have a keen eye and have considered this bike thoroughly. Many great points and thank you for sharing them with this community! I do believe that if you can cover your bike with a warranty, it makes sense, on a vehicle that has been largely reworked for a particular model year, which is the case for the 2021 mt09. The warranty has to be reasonably priced to be worthwhile though. The truth is, I could be wrong, but my goal is to share helpful information. And if you have better information, please keep sharing!

    Actually I have owned 5 Japanese Motorcycles that I put over 80 thousand miles on and over 109 thousand miles on. These bikes were all built between 1968 and 1996. Two Honda’s, one Suzuki, two Kawasaki’s. I currently have a Yamaha MT09 and I can say I have not seen or heard any unusual things with it. To seat a new engine vary the speed and at 5 thousand rpm or less for the first 2 hundred miles. Then make occasional 2/3 to 3/4 runs up to 8 thousand or so and close back to idle and let engine braking bring back to legal. If you don’t seat a new engine while the cross hatching in the bores can buff in the piston rings you got an oil burner for life or rebuild in your future. Air cooled aircraft engines brake in full throttle takeoff and climb. Cruise at 75 percent for the first 100 hours. These cost $25,000 plus so don’t screw the pouch, run the engine.

    @@drewmorg. then you may get one in 5-6 years then. In case you haven’t noticed, anything with the tuning fork on it these days- used or new- is an investment. Meaning they hold their value at an insane level; especially an FZ/MT.
