Having owned a 2016 XC90, 2019 XC60 and a 2020 (gas) XC40 -- I can tell you -- the Recharge will come to you fully without fit and finish issues like a Tesla. None of mine had a problem with doors not lining up, paint issues, or lines not coming together. Pay more for the Volvo and get quality -- as opposed to being a Tesla fanboy knowing you'll have to deal with terrible fit & finish. You CAN have both. Good design AND good electronics. Unlike what Tesla thinks.

If you're buying a car for fit/finish and using that as main criticism against buying a Tesla, you need to reassess your methods. This car is much worse than a MY in every aspect outside of fit/finish - but a decent first attempt by Volvo.

I owned a Tesla Model 3 and traded it in for an XC40 Recharge. No doubt. No question. The Volvo is a superior car.

I love the main screen placement. With Teslas it seems the big screen is just slapped on like a TV in your den.

Fun fact: My aunt recently got this car in replacement of her third Lexus. It’s pretty cool.

Test drove one yesterday in NJ and LOVED it! No, because originally I went to test an XC90 which is about 180° different from this tiny little car. I wish your review had touched on specifics of charging. My biggest concern is the reality of living with this vehicle and the unknown hassle of how to charge it. I read somewhere that plugging into a household outlet is not supposed to be the main way to charge it even though it is something you can do to top off your car. I’m curious about time to full charge, availability/how to find compatible charging stations, and anything else I’m not thinking to ask yet.

All EV,s to my knowledge can charge from empty to full on a standard outlet....it will just take 8-12 hrs so if you’re not commuting a long distance everyday that’s really all you need

If you don't want to charge using a regular outlet you can buy a charging pump for home and depending on your state if you are a homeowner to oh can get a tax rebate on that has well as on your car

Honestly this is kind of more interesting to look at rather than the model y because it has some different stuff in it

I think it’s because Tesla opted for minimalist design so it makes it look plain sometimes

Heads up. The trunk didn’t open with your foot cause you were slightly doing it wrong. It took me so many tries to get it to open too lol

So the shifter is different now? I thought you had to do a double shift down to go in to drive and double up for reverse.

The xc40 is an electric-powered car. It's not a fully-electric platform. Volvo has made a presentation since this video was made on their plans for a full-electric platform. Volvo and Polestar's full-electric platform vehicles should be introduced next year and maybe sold late in the year or the following year. And I'd say that's later in the game so they have this one out for now as well as the Polestar 2.

Would y’all trade the Tesla for this? Does it have KZread in it?

I agree that the range isn't really as good as it should be, considering the price tag. This car is suited for people who live in the suburbs and has reasonable proximity to all the necessities of daily life. With that said, the car is extremely comfortable and pretty spacious for being a compact SUV.

I'm still uncertain if this can be a game-changer for even Volvo itself, leaving out compact models in potential regions.

Well, it is better looking, built quality is better and cheaper so yes, it beats tesla model y in every aspect.

I have now 2. VW ID-4'S. A , 1 St Edition. & Pro S w Gradient Package. Basically Same Vehicles, and a 3rd one coming this October 2021. AWD PRO S W GRADIENT PACKAGE AWD. I was looking at this XC40 Recharge beautiful vehicle but. 208 miles is HORRIBLE. you have to consider the VW ID-4'S also they are in the same class of this XC40 RECHARGE. END result is HORRIBLE RANGE. if you drive this XC40 Recharge hard you will barely get 170 miles of Range. HORRIBLE. but I suppose I will keep my 3rd ID-4

Man, that mileage is trash... I'm looking at getting a new car soon and this video had me very interested until the mileage was quoted. 300 miles should be minimum.

My Office Manager bought herself a Tesla and told me that she was told by Tesla she cannot run it through a car wash because it will ruin the paint job and because the metal is so thin. She has to have someone come to her house and hand wash with special soap. What’s the story with the Volvo ... can it be taken through a car wash? Dear God that orange is ugly AF. 😞
