There's something about winter driving in Norway that is beautiful and mesmerizing. I'm adding a winter road trip in Norway to my bucket list, looking forward to the end of Covid
Kris thanks for these amazing range test videos, I’ve watched many videos on other channels and I always get confused but the way you explain how the evs charge and the difference in KW and battery 🔋 life on EVs soooo well I feel like a pro now lol! Btw I can’t wait to see your next XC90 EV! I also think you should do a video of your wish list for the next Volvo XC90.

Nice test of my car. Got my 4th of December and I like it very much. A new update from Volvo is expected to come at the end of January with a number of improvements. Heat pump and heat for battery are some of the things to come. In the spring I will drive Gudbrandsdalen-Lofoten it will be a long trip. I am very happy with my Volvo XC40 Recharge Eletric P8!

Found your channel through seeing you on Bjorn Nyland's video. You make good stuff. Charging speed sometimes varies for no apparent reason. I think sometimes it is the fault of the stations, not the vehicle, but I don't know how we can test that.
Thanks @Kris Rifa for a good video :) Which charging app do you recommend?
As long as you don't have any tool to check on the battery temperature, possible reasons for slow charging is just a guess. To be able to make charts of all kinds of parameters is basically interessting to compare different cars too. Besides the guessing, a quite interesting video. Thank you!

What is state charge that you keep mentioning? Or is that state-of charge? Thanks!
Interesting, but a little question. For this 610km run. what was the price of the electricity ? that run here in sweden is about the same time with a petrol vechile, you always need a break and lunch. But with a consumption with around 8L/100km for a normal car., that would be around 49L and 730SEK for the petrol.. What is the price for this run with an EV? :)
Thank you for an interesting test. It's a pleasure to listen to the way you speak to us in the video! Now to my comment! Could this missing pre-heat be due to the fact that the car think it is better to reach the charing station than spend the energy left on pre-heat and not reach the charing station. Remember you arrived with 0 energy left in the battery. What do you think?

As a owner of a XC40 P8 Recharge here in the Netherlands I have a question: What's the best driving speed to go as fast as possible from A to B, assuming you want to drive as far as possible within one day. Like in this video, would it have been possible to charge only 2 times if the highway driving speed would have been for example 100 instead off 120? Maybe the total time would have been better ???
Did you get any information regarding the battery pre-heating?
Thanks for these Videos Kris. Very useful. Any chance to have the results more readable? Like Google Sheet? It is Impossible to read the Excel data on a normal mobile phone.

Please do a complete battery drain test in the Norwegian winter!
have you made a range test video comparing the Tesla model 3 and Volvo P8?
Hey Kris, is the rear spoiler standard or extra?
Batteries charge fastest from 0-50% and slowest from 80-100%. So it's better to charge more stops than to try charge it full. This is according to manufacturers' recommendation also.
The speed you drive through icy roads Is very brave or even silly if you ask me. !! I would be doing around 30 miles per hour max
What is the actual colour of that car? I’m ordering the car and am planning to order it in Glacier Silver which I hope is the same colour.
Kris maybe it didn't pre-heat the battery to the earlier charging station because it was planning to arrive with a low state of charge, and pre-heating the battery could have used too much energy and prevented you from arriving there. Therefore maybe the car pre-heats only if it thinks it will arrive with a state of charge greater than 5%, 10% or maybe even 15%.

Amen to that!!!!
Can you explain to a novice the electric speak, like kilowatts, and all they charging definitions
The consumption is crazy high and simply does not make sense to drive an EV car presently. It is very expensive to charge at such high speeds in the UK (69p/kw) and therefore it is significantly more expensive to drive this car vs and ICE car.
I notice that you get used to 0% battery all the time. When reaching your goal, I like to see you keeping to empty the battery to 0% before arriving the charging station EVERYTIME. This should be fine and easy for you. Do it in your e-tron, e-tron S, XC40, and more. In addition, this would help you to analyze the charging speed accurately - more videos for you, Kris.
Driving on snow-covered roads, or partially snow-covered roads in minus degrees, is like driving in tailwinds and gives less friction and thus lower consumption. If, on the other hand, it is above zero in temperature and sloppy, then you get increased consumption and thus like driving in wet road conditions.
I don’t see it slow
I’m not too sure if this is an electric one you are showing us of the XC 40, but I’m not interested in the electric I don’t like the car. I’m sorry to hear that they’re not only making it now in electric. Thank you

Get an EV that is efficient and charges fast, like a Model 3 or Porsche Taycan. *Most of the time the car will be waiting for you, not the other way around.* Everyone occasionally need to stretch their legs, eat, buy a coffe, visit the restroom, check their mail or whatever- during long trips. 🍔 A used one, or even a ID.3/ID.4/Mach-E would work fine. There are lots of different models to choose from that fall into this category in 2021. However, a Tesla is probably the best choice if you’re skeptic about charging. You typically drive 3-4 hours, and charge for 25 minutes.. It always works and there are almost never any queues. Remember that most of the driving is edited out of the videos you see. That’s why it seems like these KZreadrs are always charging, or struggling to charge some brand new press car. 🙂 Actually, most people rarely visit fast chargers at all. It’s not like gas stations. A recent survey from Norway shows that 93% of all charging is done at home, at work, hotels or similar. It takes only 5 seconds of your precious time. 🙏

Drink 5 raw eggs!
This video shows very well that electric cars are trash for long trips. Now we all have nothing else to do than spend time planning for the trip, sitting in freezing cold for two hours to wait for a battery to charge. And of course, don’t take that wrong turn or scenic detour or you’ll end up towed. Try that with a wife and two kids and the car packed with stuff. Somewhere in Italy, France or Spain. You’ll end up robbed to the last dime if you are lucky.

That is just to long, more than 1,5 hours doing nothing. Or more than 1,5 longer travel time on this EV. And that trip is a short run. It is said to manage 417 km on a charge and manage 150kW of charging. 307km one way, in your test. SO the EV lie continues. Still shit.
The range is a joke and the time to recharge is more than a joke I have a CRV hybrid and make 1000 km on a tank, consumption around 5.5 liters x 100 km Untill EVs have a range of 600 km at least and a charging time of max 15 minutes I wouldn't consider buying one I just imagine my last trip to Croatia 2 years ago with my then XC 60 D4 in an XC 40 e Just nightmares coming up...
