Una gran fiesta, sí, es lo que fue el concierto del Palau de la Música el día 10 de diciembre de
2021 en el marco del Festival de Jazz de Barcelona.
Ese año, en el que la Sant Andreu Jazz Band cumplía 15 años de vida, el festival me dedicaba el
retrato de artista, programando 5 conciertos relacionados con mi persona:
1. JOAN CHAMORRO BIG BAND PRESENTA, concierto especial con una big band formada por
aquellos músicos de la SAJB con los que he grabado un disco de presentación (canciones y
arreglos nuevos, que podemos escuchar también en el nuevo “JOAN CHAMORRO PRESENTA
BIG BAND PRESENTAS”).
2. Como sideman y productor presentando el CD “ÈLIA BASTIDA MEETS SCOTT HAMILTON”.
3. Joan Chamorro BARITONE RHAPSODY con ALBA ESTEBAN (concierto del cual salieron
algunos de los temas que forman parte dde”JOAN CHAMORRO PRESENTA ALBA ESTEBAN”).
4. Como sideman junto a ANDREA MOTIS, en el proyecto GUITAR STORM.
Y 5. El concierto de la SANT ANDREU JAZZ BAND, para celebrar sus 15 años.
Este concierto es el que tenéis en vuestras manos, en dos CD’S, porque fue un concierto
generoso musicalmente, en donde conseguimos reunir a prácticamente todos los músicos que
habían pasado por el proyecto más los que en ese momento formaban parte de él. En total, 64
músicos, más los asiduos invitados: Ignasi Terraza, Josep Traver y Esteve Pi.
Fue realmente maravilloso poder reunirnos y volver a hacer música y recrear algunos de los
temas más populares de todos estos años (además de 3 nuevas canciones que no habíamos
grabado nunca). Una jazz party por todo lo alto, en donde fue emocionante poder escuchar la
evolución de muchos de los músicos que no escuchaba desde hacía años. Muchos de ellos
tienen sus propios proyectos y tienen un papel importante en el panorama jazzístico actual.
Realmente esta grabación es muy especial, tanto emocional como musicalmente. En algunos
de los temas podemos escuchar prácticamente dos bigbands tocando a la vez, con dos
baterías, dos bajistas, dos guitarras, 10 saxos, 6 o 7 trombones, 6 o 7 trompetas, coros de más
de 10 personas, etc.
No era fácil, pero lo hicimos posible. Porque, como ya dije allá por el año 2009, en el primer
JAZZING: la Sant Andreu Jazz Band es un sueño hecho realidad. Y estamos en el 2022 (año en el
que aparece esta grabación del 2021) y seguimos soñando.
No puedo estar más que agradecido a todas las personas que hicieron posible este concierto,
empezando por el Festival de Jazz de Barcelona y el Palau de la Música. Por supuesto, a todos
los músicos que ya no formaban parte de la SAJB y que se reservaron la fecha y acudieron a la
cita con ilusión y alegrías desbordantes. También a todos los músicos actuales y a sus familias.
Aprovecho este momento de agradecimientos para extenderlo a todas aquellas personas que
hacen posible que este proyecto siga adelante. A Blanca Gallo, de Gaudiu Música, a David
Casamitjana y a Josep Roig, por las grabaciones y las mezclas, a Lili Bonmatí, por sus
maravillosas fotos durante todos estos años, a Ramon Tort por todas las grabaciones de video.
También quiero agradecer a Roman Polankik por su amabilidad al cedernos un espacio en la
Nau Bostik, para poder realizar los ensayos previos, de esta bigband mayúscula.

Check out all the proud aunts and uncles in the in the band watching the kids take part in the same rite of passage charts they played when they were wee tykes. Lots of people lead bands, Joan Chomorro has gone beyond that in creating a whole family/culture of mutual support, versatility, strength and one hell of a good time with people who, in seemingly endless combinations, mix and match in alternately starring and supporting roles. It looks to me that this is something they will be doing for decades to come. When he writes his book on leadership I want an autographed first edition in hardback. I'll gladly pay full retail. I would love to hear the story of how he got to this high level of achievement and inspiration. [In English, por favor.]

I hear the youngsters at center stage - marvellous! - and I see the veterans from 2007, 2009 and other dates in the top row, supporting them with their claps and enthusiasm, before diving into the song at 2:14! All of them had their place there at some time, except one. But, who?

Before the suspense kills anybody: It is Eva, who has always had her place in the sax section = first row. Alba Esteban played (trumpet tunes?) on her sax with the trumpet section in her first concerts, 2009 / 2010.
Coincido con la mayoría de los comentarios: me emociona ver a los más jóvenes de la banda, la sangre más nueva, el futuro de la Sant Andreu (tan esplendoroso como su pasado, por lo que se ve), de protagonistas en primera fila, con un desparpajo y un talento tremendos, disfrutando, pasándoselo genial, animándose entre ellos, chocándose los puños ... mientras los más veteranos, las "vacas sagradas" que son la historia de la Sant Andreu, Andrea, Eva, las Albas, Elsa, les miraban y jaleaban desde el gallinero, la fila de las trompetas, como si fueran sus hermanitos pequeños. Y en cierto modo los son. Y me acuerdo de los inicios de la Sant Andreu, muchos años atrás, cuando las mismas Albas y Elsa eran las peques de la banda y también fueron arropadas y jaleadas por sus compis mayores. Y enternece, la verdad. Los años pasan, los niños se convierten en adultos, la banda se renueva, pero su espíritu de amistad y compañerismo permanece siempre a lo largo del tiempo. Bravo. Y algunas cosas a comentar: - Ver a Josep Traver tocando el banjo a lo Carla Motis, no tiene precio. - Pablo Fernández junto a su hermana Eva, hacía muchos, muchos años que no se veía. Y es que ambos fueron dos de los nueve músicos "fundadores" de la banda, allá por el 2006, cuando a un chalado llamado Chamorro se le ocurrió su bendita locura. - Lo de Pablo Ruiz con la tabla de lavar ... sí, pero no: eso debe ser puro rockabilly, con la chupa de cuero, la perilla y el sombrero. Tocar ese cacharro con chaqueta de vestir, no sé yo que decirte ... 😂
