Come on man: the instrument cluster on this thing is beautiful, even the compass! What do you want a tablet on it? Maybe you're right about the fuel gauge, but it doesn't give crazy readouts.

@@TheGlassFamilyvlog I think a digital instrument cluster would really look out of place on such a vintage looking adventure bike. Much on the same way the Yamaha Bolt has a round speedo dial, but a horrible rectangle display that looks like it came from the original Gameboy. Careful with an LED upgrade, the halogen reflector is designed for a halogen bulb. So make sure that on the LED light, the module itself is in a good position to ensure the reflector actually reflects the light correctly instead of throwing a short beam or dazzling oncoming traffic.

@@TheGlassFamilyvlogyou heathen...... Digital dash? You obviously don't understand the simple nature of the bike. Analog all the way, simple to read and its 1980's retro, like the rest of the bike. They even do a carb kit so you can remove the fuel injection if you want to.

I LOVE the Himalayan’s instrument cluster! My single favorite thing about the whole bike.

I absolutely hate the new blue color on the white. White was so clean and iconic and actually compensated for the rack that gave messy look to it

I bought one a month ago and love it! Interstate speeds aren’t really their thing but have been taking it on jeep roads in Colorado and it does well beyond what I thought it would do.

There will always be "other people" lol. Rule #1.. forget the other people. It's a terrific bike for the right person. My wife and I, 5-9 and 6-2, weigh 325-350 lbs two up with gear.. we do logging roads, hwys.. you name it. It's a sturdy little steed. My wife thinks it's super comfortable.. and it is!

I'm 6' 240. I don't think I would have any problem with the weight. I'm used to riding a large Harley. I also have a KLR650, which is no lightweight. I absolutely do not want an LED headlight. I have been blinded too many times at night by those. I have had to literally wear sunglasses at night because of others using LED headlights. Anybody that can't see well enough with a halogen headlight has vision problems. ALL engines should be warmed up for several minutes before putting a load on them anyway. Taking off with a cold engine will definitely wear out the engine a lot sooner. My KLR is liquid cooled, and I was stranded once out in the middle of nowhere because the liquid cooling system sprung. And I really appreciate that this bike comes with a centerstand. I had to put an aftermarket centerstand on the KLR. And this is by far the best looking dual sport/adventure bike I have seen in decades. It looks like a motorcycle not a spaceship. I would definitely permanently disable the ABS. I plan to get one January 2022.

I really dig the “Retro” styling of this bike. I may end up getting one someday. Thanks for the review.

Bro but they messed up the colors on 22 models. They removed the best selling plan white and added couple of ugly ones

They are a great-looking bike. I love the dash. I love all the different clocks. It's cool. Anyone can put a boring old TFT on a bike. The clocks suit the styling. - Old-school.

Exactly! And the if something goes wrong on TFTs, well only a visit a service center will help. Also this bike is designed for almost rough & tough use & I have my doubts about a TFT able to handle that, with an analogue you can pretty much DIY repair!

For me, one of the best features of this bike are the instruments. A big speedo, and then the smaller dials.

@@TheGlassFamilyvlog On this vintage styled bike, yes the dials with their nonuniform set up that has a subtle but ingrained post-apocalyptic vibe to it, contribute to the overall no-nonsense "I don't give a flying f" kind of workaholic and industrial persona of the bike. And they look gorgeous at the night with all the tiny beads lit up. This looks like a beast- a sure-footed sturdy mule. A Digital instrument cluster would have been completely out of place.

There is another bonus regarding the weight and how it’s distributed. The bike is very stable in cross winds on the highway compared to other bikes.

Royal Enfield is on a roll. It has the following models up for launch in the next 12-24 months - Classic Roadster Shotgun Hunter Sherpa Scram Flying Flea and An Electric Motorcyle Also BSA will be launching its 650cc motorcycle by the end of the year.

Zero SR weighs in the same category and I moved just fine into this bike. I love this.

More power no doubt. I’ve had bad luck with Suzuki’s so my fingers are crossed that this bike doesn’t let me down! Honda was my 2nd choice with the Rally bike they have!

A young slightly built Dutch girl rode one from India to the Netherlands through Iran into The Oman into Russia ,anyway look on a map. Over mountains through rivers extreme temperatures hot cold very cold very hot. So what more of a testament than that.

I love the look of that instrumentation cluster.

I think your the first American i have seen to review the Himalayan. Others put out great videos but sometimes things are not the same. The likes and dislikes vary from country to country and even from state to state the riding style can be a world of different, Ridding on rocks and boulders that litter every trail in some parts of the country would turn me away from off road riding. I like the stuff your detailing your individual thoughts about your bike. The instrument cluster seems way ahead of the average Japaneses motorcycle with a barely lit gray scale box detailing virtually nothing. The whole industry needs to come into the 20th century with color screens and built in navigation access or at least fuel and mileage details like modern vehicle. The Himalayan is on my list of possibilities.

Hi just an FYI in the states your bike maybe a 2021 model but in the the UK/Europe/India its a 2019/poss 20 model BS4 (euro 4 emissions) the latest version is a BS6 (euro 5 emissions) which has a different exhaust system, some engine up-grades, different rear luggage rack ,different front luggage frame and better front brake and a sat-nav thingy ,slight re-design of the seats also . Easy to check out on here . As for the clocks ,traditional styled and functional ,way to go.

I only found out about this bike about a week ago and I am really interested in it. I like the idea of cruising on and off road going to remote places and exploring. My main ride now is a 1978 flh harley, and I will probably try to find a way to take it with me when I die haha. I also have a 1991 Springer softtail easy to maintain and very reliable.

What exhaust did you get?

Hopefully Royal Enfield has fixed the weak frame problems and weak weld problems. Only time will tell. In the mean time I'm really enjoying my Yamaha.

The headlight uses a H4 bulb. Replace the stock one with a 65/100 watt bulb for under $15.

Hello Brandon, enjoyed your video. Have you looked into the TEC camshaft change? They say it will add a 20 percent increase in power without any other modifications. I'm planning on purchasing a Himalayan soon and it seems like it would possibly be good upgrade. I'm watching for a user review on the camshaft. Thanks for the video

fun video thanks for the walk. The bike has a great deep rumble to it. I like the instrument cluster it's compartmentalized and it fits the design of the bike. however the tach is a tad small and a chore to read. do u still have bike? happy ridin! So Cali

It now lets this engine breathe. I make a rear support bracket for the luggage rack and some hardware to hang one or two tool tubes and some other cool stuff .

I like the Retro Styling so much I'm still riding my 06 KLR 650. About to click off 150K miles on it. It's heavy and not a wheeliee machine. But it has taken me to all the great long distance North American Trails without issues. (Other than that time I bought bad gas in Arkansas.) TOD, TAT, Continental Divide etc.... My custom built crash bar set up has saved it from many mishaps. Thought about replacing it with a Himalayan, but since they weigh almost the same, and my water cooled KLR and I are very intimate, 685cc's, balanced and blue printed + ported head and every other Mod that has come down the pipe since it was first introduced. I'm going to have a hard time selling it. I even added a kickstarter to mine as a backup to the electric start....... I do like the looks of this machine, and maybe when the KLR gets crashed beyond repair I'll get one. Definitly worth considering. The new KRL's have too much tupperware for my liking. Good review,especially since I am the same size and weight as you.

It really calls to me. Air cooled single. 90 English miles to the gallon and it looks like you could fit a 500 single in there. A velocette venom engine would give 36 bhp and a BSA gold star would give 40. Take your choice

This is 2020 model and in India we have the new 2021 model with Tripper, New Luggage Rack, Taller Windscreen, New Paint Schemes and re designed luggage hanger at the front for the taller riders, also BS6 compliant

let’s call it the 2021 US model. The Indian 2020 model, also BS6 variant, had its cat-converter moved higher up the pipe. You have what would be the 2019 “indian” version, BS4/euro4 model. The newer 2021 has a hazard lights switch on the right handle and all of the above mentioned by Vimarsh. Only upside to your “2021” US model is a slightly higher HP count.

I'm in panhandle also. How is your Himalayan in the sand here ? My DR650 does pretty well with Shinko 804/805 big blocks on it. They don't last to long though on our hot pavement.

@@TheGlassFamilyvlog It's the latest model available in US. There's a newer model available with improved dash, fueling, rack and frame - but Royal Enfield dump the old model in US, Thailand and other markets. Most manufacturers do a global launch, but not Enfield.

Nice review - but that's a 2020 model. '21 has navigation, stronger rack, bigger screen, improved fueling. Seems odd that the 2021 model is only available in India and UK.

I have a US 2021 model. I checked the VIN number and the 10th digit is "M" making it a 2022 production bike (My manual page 39)

@@StpBks Unfortunately that just means Enfield is providing the US market with the old model. Perhaps there was a Type Approval barrier to importing the new model, but as they are selling the new model in Europe, this seems unlikely. I think as a minimum they should have fitted the new, stronger rear rack to the US models. If there's an accident due to a broken rack, I think there could be a legal case. Enfield are aware of a weakness with the rack, developed a stronger rack for their new model, but continued to supply the old one to the US and other markets. I'm not sure if any other motorcycle manufacturer does a global launch of a new model, then continues to sell the old model in selected markets?

at 3:05 you mentioned air cooled not liquid cooled. It does have an oil cooler, although that is not the traditional liquid cooling, oil is liquid.

I think this is not 2021, the version of Himalayan. This year version has a navigation gauge and plate and not a grill at the tail. Maybe I am wrong, but I got one and it doesn't look like this one. There is no thickening on the exhaust pipe which is an addition to the eco standard exhaust 2021. And, If you say that it weighs more than 200 pounds, you probably mean weight with fluids. Because, without liquids, this engine weighs 191 kg, which is less than 200 pounds.

It IS very cool alright. Kind of like buying a novelty bike. Spec wise though, and general riding reasons, I'll stick with my DR650, or the KLR or the Honda XL big thumpers. All around the same price and 200 more cc's making highway travel a breeze. But yea, a most cool bike I would love to add to the garage if $ fell off trees ;-)

I don’t think your comments on the weight or the clocks, are justified. The clocks suit the style of the machine, and it’s very light overall. If you want led lights, and water cooling, pay twice the price for something else. It’s a good all rounder at a great price.

2 months later hows it doin? im gonna check one out this week, sat on it over the weekend but wasnt able to take it out. looks like itll be fun to take the long way home from work.

If they do a 650 Himalayan I will definitely check one out. I rode the Himalayan and liked it a lot - However, back-to-back with a second-hand DR650, it couldn't compete with the Suzuki's performance. Having said that, in hindsight I wish I'd taken a punt on the RE.

If the normal bulbs blow you can change them on the fly, if leds break your fucked. It's made to be fixable , and great fuel consumption. The less electronics the better.

Hmm... Looks like back tire is on backwards according to pattern of the chevrons tread. On my bikes the bottom of the chevron tread rolls forward, not the point of it. Weird.

On the sidewall of your tire is a rotation arrow. Double check. Mine is the same as Whiskey Throttle's. You might notice the chevron pattern is opposite the front tire vs the back tire. (The back tire's main job is pushing and the front tire's main job is stopping.)

The vehicle comes equipped with tubed tires. You did not mentioned anything about having a puncture in the middle of nowhere while one is traveling with his family.

Is the US model so different to an EU 2021 model? Over here we get updated crash guards, tinted and modified windshield, tripper navigation, updated central box mount... this looks more like a 2020 model to me

They've had trouble just shipping enough bikes here. The Rona apparently hit India later than Europe and the US, and is still messing up the supply chain over there. My bike didn't even come with Pirellis on it - it had CEATs.

I just go out and start it before I put my gear on and get my stuff together. By the time I climb on and put my gloves on, it's warmed up. I like the analog instrument cluster. I do wish they would fix the compass though - it's one of the things that attracted me to the bike and when it's working I use it. But if they can't fix it they should replace it with a Beeline bc that's what I would use instead.

I own this bike. A 2019. The compass is worthless and never right. The outside temp is too close to the engine and always reads much hotter than actual. Due to electrical power spikes when starting the clock often resets itself so also worthless. That's just the instrument cluster. I can go on about clunky transmission that occasionally pops into neutral etc... much more. It's a junk bike. And I own one.

has anyone tried different gearing on the bike 400 lbs is nothing if you have ample power do you really have ample power ?

First gear is a bit tall off-road but over all it’s got good bottom end power. The top end is lacking for higher speeds.

Honestly nothing will look stylish like it but the crf300l or the Klx300 would be good examples of lighter dual sports with more power.

Also they need to give you a piece of black tape at the dealer to put over the non functional compass. I had a 2018 Himalayan and it didn't work and my buddies new one won't work either no matter what is tried
