Why I Can No Longer Live With The Royal Enfield Himalayan 411

Title: Why I Can No Longer Live with the Royal Enfield Himalayan
Description:
In this video, I share my experience with the Royal Enfield Himalayan, discussing its strengths and suitability for winter riding and country lanes. While it has served me well in these conditions, I've come to the realization that I need a motorcycle with more speed and versatility, especially during the summer months. Join me as I explain why the Royal Enfield Himalayan no longer fulfills my needs as my sole motorcycle and explore the reasons behind my decision to seek a different ride for the warmer seasons. If you're a motorcycle enthusiast facing similar considerations, this video may offer valuable insights and perspectives.

I loved the Himi from the moment I rode one. If I could I have one tomorrow I would. It reminds me of riding a big 125 and that's part of the charm. Pez thought I'd buy one after the old CB died. FFS. The Royal Enfield Himalayan (411) is a 24 bhp single cylinder motorcycle with an off-road capability. It's low cost, low maintenance, cheap to run (80+mpg) practical for everyday use and a bit of weekend fun. That's what it does. The Himalayan is reliable and versatile. Put luggage on it, do 15,000 miles around Europe in four months, thirty-one countries with zero mechanical problems? Yes, that's what my son and his partner did in 2021 on their Himalayans. You seem to want the best of all Worlds. Fun, all-terrain motorcycle or expensive 600cc crotch rocket? A CBR 600 will be faster on tarmac roads, but when the mud comes, the Himalayan will be way ahead. It all depends on what type of riding you want to do. High speed thrash, or back-road amble? The Himalayan is a future classic. A bike so much more than the sum of its parts. Love and peace.

After a life time on bikes ,B roads are the only ones I find enjoyable to ride now,out in the countryside away from all the traffic. I bought a new CB500X last year ,it feels nimble, plush and absolutely planted on any road even the motorway. Overtakes are ok,not instant but ok,fuel economy is epic 80-90mpg under 60mph and it great in the wet. I got my Himalayan as a bit of a palate cleanser, going from big, powerful multi-cylinder bikes to a rattly low-power single is a definite change of pace. I've really enjoyed the character of a long-stroke, low revving engine but like you, I would prefer a bit more power for faster roads. I'm thinking of replacing it with a Bonneville or a W800. Also if I could start over on my Himalayan journey I'd probably have gone for a Classic 350, I do ride unpaved roads from time to time but never on properly gnarly terrain, and overall I prefer the ergos of the Classic.

I live in Canada and although I bought this bike to explore backroads and ghost towns, it is difficult to avoid long days on pavement. I have been looking at the new Trans Alp and the NX500, but I’ve spent a lot of time and money accessorizing my Himalayan. The thought of trying to equip a new bike with the essentials kinda discourages me. I’m 5’4” and 70 years old, maybe I can live with a slow bike.

Is yours tuned / souped up? How are you getting 26bhp from it? 😮 The Himalayan can handle faster single carriageways fine and even do some legal overtakes but it takes some planning. It's the longer distance dual carriageway roads where it struggles to do 70mph comfortably. The answer for you is the new 450 Himalayan? Or an Aprilia Tuareg?

The Himalayan is not an all rounder which is why I have two other bikes. A Honda 650 and Bandit 600S, but I only take them out on dry roads so as not to ruin the cosmetics which are mint. I recently bought a 2022 Himalayan just before Christmas and winter is the best time to buy a bike with dealers offering discounts. I saved £450. If you wait until summer prices will rise so you'll pay more and remember that we get some lovely warm and dry days in Easter. I advise getting a nippy little sports bike for the summer and keeping the Himalayan for dirty winter roads when speed is not an issue. Perhaps a Honda CBR650 with 94bhp will suit your requirements or a Yamaha MT-O7. Whatever you choose you will not want to abuse it on salty winter roads or ride it in the rain unless you get caught out by a shower so the Himalayan will still have a purpose in your life.
