I actually test drive one of these a couple of weeks ago and I was actually quite surprised because the pick-up was pretty good considering it's only a 74 kW turbo engine definitely would consider buying one of these

I've watched another video with this transmission and it also gave problems. It overheated due to the high pressure of the tests and the fact that the transmission doesn't have active cooling (which most DCT's do have).

I was wondering what makes it look so slow until you explained about the engine problem. We have the 120hp version with the 6 speed manual and it looks much faster (with a little wheelspin even with TCS on ;p)

Should have used the 1.6 na eng that use to be in the previous gen Rio good for 100kw they went like rockets with those eng far better than the lethargic 1.4 used now .yes the Kia compact SUV is a smart looking car but let down by underpowered 3 pot in a car that's over 1 tonn

My dad has a Kia Stonic 1.0L and it gives off a right proper 120hp. I don't know why the 1.0 shown here only has 100hp, but it seems both my dad's Stonic and the Stonic here have the same T-GDI engine.

Yes, sometimes these things happen. We think it would probably achieve around 10-11 seconds, considering the slightly lighter weight Kia Rio GT-Line, with an 88kW tune, did the sprint in 9.78 during our tests.

@@PDriveTV I'm not sure how that adds up. 9.78 is close enough to 10 seconds. I would expect a 14kw disadvantage and extra weight would put the Stonic around 12 seconds which is where it came in. I also drove a Stonic and found the same surging from the engine you experienced in this video.

We're not completely sure. It could be the transmission not releasing full power for some reason. Although, it felt like more of an engine issue. Under full throttle it wouldn't freely rev up, only spiking randomly with bursts of what felt like peak power.

@@PDriveTV Had similar issue with Hyundai's 1.6 turbo due to really short day to day traveling distances (less than 3-4 km per day) , that problem started at only 1500 km. Was advised to run the car at a highway in higher RPM, the issue was resolved after 30 km spent on the highway in 3rd gear at 120km/h. Never experienced the same issue again, almost 7k kilometers after that. Could it be that this press release car was driven in city conditions only and not driven really hard during those 1500+ kms?

@@maurelie87 That's interesting. Yes, that could be the case here. We put around 60km on it before running the performance tests but before us, who knows. The car may have been driven only in the city.
