The Korean models of the K5 seem way nicer than what we appear to be getting here in the states. Even though the exterior looks better than the Sonata the Sonata seems to have everything missing in this version of the K5. Probably should wait to get the N-line Sonata...

yes was really looking forward to the new K5, but looks like it is missing so many features, even compared to the Sonata: 1. No digital dash 2. No blind spot cameras 3. No 360 View 4. No smart parking 5. No front parking sensors 6. No rotary gear shift 7. No built in dashcam 8. No Drivers seat position memory 9. No Auto retract sideview mirrors 10. No manual sunshades for rear windows 11. No HUD. 12. No Ambient Lighting 13. No Harmon Kardon sound system Also, I dont really like amber DRLs compared to white. Why change it KIA? what about giving us a choice? Incredibly disappointed! Now have to wait and see if they bring any of these features back into the Canadian model

Grizzy Bear I have a feeling the N-Line maybe 1 or 2 thousand more that a GT K5 but when you are getting the same engine and a better interior with better features that cost difference will be negligible.

Ok I’m liking the consistency 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. It looks pretty good. However, I felt they could’ve done better/brought more to the table w certain things like they done in the past.

I just drove a LXS trim and I was so amazed at how Kia has moved up in the world, I love it, Little hit lol tomorrow i might pick one up, I’m really excited bc these cars are so amazing and have good looks

I've watched many many different reviews of the K5 in Korea... And this basic model is sooo disappointing. The basic models of Korea have the Dial Shift, AND the digital speedometer display.... Like wtf?? Why isn't Kia giving us all the features? Unless they decide to refresh and use those features in the next two years or whatever.

I mean I ended up going with the Hyundai Sonata Limited in gray because in person I fell in love with the car and its interior, but at the same time had the K5 came with the same interior as the Korean Model, I most likely would have gone with that one. K5 has the “Mean” look, and the Sonata went for a more “Elegant” look. Just sad to see because this car could have been a home run like the Sonata had they not skipped out on the interior. It’s still a beautiful car, just disappointing how it’s not all it had to offer

Phoenix G I totally agree! Kia missed the ball on this one. Why wouldn’t they include a 360 view, especially on the highest trim? The previous model optima even had Harmon Kardon and ambient lighting. They cheaper out definitely. It’s disappointing, I would’ve totally bought it had they include 360 camera, digital cockpit, power folding mirrors, ambient lighting. Like cmon? And they couldn’t add wireless car play to the 10.2” screen?? Cmon Kia!

I find it odd that the 8” infotainment has wireless Apple CarPlay while the 10.25” has wired Apple CarPlay. You’d think it would be the other way around. I really like this K5.

Yes it seems like several dumb decisions were made for the release of this new K5, the wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto being one, and the lack of AWD at launch another.

I mean, it was announced last week (or I guess this week when you posted this) Maybe I'm crazy but the interior seems, just, less in a way than the Sonata, which I guess makes sense as Hyundai is typically a little more premium than Kia, however things like the Seltos, Sportage and Cadenza (when the Azura was available) seemed nicer than their sister cars Once the 2.5T comes out all of these problems likely will be addressed

TheEpicFuzz I don’t know why they keep downgrading US spec models, and going backwards with feature content. Literally, this new K5 has less features than the 2016-2019 model, no 360 camera, power folding mirrors, heated rear seats, and side window sunshades. Hell, even the $29K EX trim comes with leatherette seats when the 2016-2020 model EX’s, under $28K, has real leather lol. The only things this new one has are the N3 platform, AWD, and some safety features, which isn’t saying much since all of said safety features are on other Hyundai/Kia products so they’re not unique to the K5. Oh and the GT trim is just the EX trim with the 2.5T engine, sport suspension and tires, with fog lights, it won’t have features the EX with the premium package doesn’t have save for memory seats.

Howdy, great review as always! I have to say, Kia knocked it out of the park here! For me, other than the airball, my only complaint is the name. I think it should have stayed as Optima! But really, that’s not important given how great this car is! Oh, and happy 4th of July!😸😻😸

Jonathan Losito i agree, but unfortunately they didn’t ask us. I can overlook it because I just love the exterior style of the car. I tried to tell myself I liked the looks of the new Sonata, but especially after seeing the actual car, I’m not a fan. The K5 I’d buy in a heartbeat, despite the dumb name.

Johnny Dwyer right now I’m mostly talking about the exterior styling. If I was actually considering buying either, I’d further research both. Interior wise, I can’t stand the Sonata steering wheel. In the end, it’s what ever is important to each of us in making that final decision. That’s why there are so many types of vehicles. I have an older Sonata and I’m a fan of Hyundai and Kia. Always loved the previous generation OPTIMA.

I got a Gt-line with AWD in wolf gray paint. I love this car.

I do like the exterior and interior design. I recently buy a Sonata. Very similar. I may have bought the K5 if was out at the same time. There are a lot of features only available in the higher trim level and optional packages. For the money not many can compete.

Love the front grill and head lamps. Can't wait for the GT models

theoriginalmr I know I am so disappointed in Kia’s choice for the US K5. I too was very excited after watching Korean car channels showing the K5. Its very disappointing and sedan’s are already in less demand vs compact suv. So I would think US Kia’s would include HUD, digital cockpit, 360 to show consumer this is what we have to offer, buy me. My lease ends in a year, so hopefully if they don’t release those features this time, hopefully the refresh model will.

@@cheerboy099 All manufacturers build their vehicles to meet a price point determined in large part by the competition in a particular national market. KIA places great emphasis on being a "value" brand, especially in the US and that's why they constrain production costs in their vehicles.

Incredible video as always! So happy you guys got to jump into this so quick! Really well deserved! I do really love the design of the car but the driver experience seems so lack luster... analog gauges... in a “new” model... in 2020 I’m not happy with that! Hyundai is still winning over Kia to me

Kia is killing it. I am rooting for them to grow into one of the top manufacturers. I think they are turning into the modern "nissan". That being said, kia is doing great with style and performance all at an affordable price.

Did anyone notice the interior center stack is very reminiscent to the new BMW 330i ... I love it :)

I guess if Kia included both items, it would further decrease Sonata sales, so I think they take turns on who gets what. The K5 got AWD and the Sonata got some more tech goodies, seems like they compromise a lot

I want those led fog lights on the Stinger, come on Kia! Make it happen on the 2021 refresh

I love the 2021 Kia K5 it’s very nice and Stylish and sexy and great price!!

That sure is a lot of piano black, and the previous gen Optima this is replacing had surround view monitors since 2016. It's beautiful on the outside, but I'm pretty surprised to see tech features regressing at all.

Nice to see they put some effort into integrating the infotainment screen into the dash instead of just gluing a tablet on top of the dash and calling it a day like they did with the Stinger.

I really hope that the features the Sonata has makes it way on over to the k5.

You guys produced a great video. I'm on my second Optima, and upset that KIA didn't add the 10 inch screen as standard as well as the better visuals seen in the Korean K5. The upside is the revised climate controls and the wireless IPhone and Droid capability. It seems the 10 inch screen will not offer wireless streaming, which makes no sense. In any case, I do like the change although would like to see KIA step it up a bit more. For the price category this could be car of the year.

This beauty is out already?!$ I just wrapped my second 3 yrs Optima lease and thought I’d have to wait til Nov 2020 for the updated (after 6 years) model! I’ll swing by the local dealer in Pasadena tomm!

I have the 2015 Optima EX that I bought new Dec 2015. I have had less problems with my Optima than any other car I have ever had. That includes a Toyota, Honda and an Audi. So when I saw your video I told my wife I was thinking about getting a 2021 K5. I will be waiting for the GT though. My only regret with my Optima is that I should have go the SX. Mainly because every time my wife saw a SX she says, "Oh I like that Optima better than yours, why didn't you get one like that".

Great review. New subscriber here. I have the 2011 Optima. I would switch to the K5 only if Kia had kept the massive 18.5gal tank. Now it's smaller. No, thanks. I wish they'd kept the screen in the dash. Cool review!

Amber running lights have been on many vehicles in the past like my 2004 4Runner Limited. The Telluride just happens to using them again when a lot of manufacturers have been using the standard white.

Very Interesting. In Korea, we get a rotary shift knob, fully digital instrument cluster and different bumper. Are those options available in the states too?

Numbers can be deceiving. Even in my current gen optima, I have more rear seat room than the new camry.

Man, after REALLY anticipating for the US version to come out, I'm actually kinda disappointed. The Korean version was so perfect for me inside and out. Well, might have to skip this one. Hopefully it'll get better in the future. Good job on the vids, guys!
