2021 Indian Scout: This Girl Test Rides and Reviews Against Her Bonneville T120 Black!

Bonneville Battles: 2020 T120 vs. 2021 Indian Scout. This week I take two very different but very similar bikes out to compare. When I was considering buying my Bonneville I was also considering the Scout. You see who won!

Good stuff Gene! A fair comparison. For me, the Scout Bobber was a no brainer. The price point, aesthetics, power and especially the versatility of it. It’s probably the most wide ranged bike out there as far as what it can transform into. And I will add that it’s a bike for everybody. As you mentioned, someone shorter than you would be quite comfortable on it and myself, I’m 6’5”. I do have 10” apes and the extended reach forward controls which are 2” more forward than what you rode, and I have no complaints of fitment or comfort. Thanks for the plug! Be safe.

Great video Gene! I test drove the T100 Black at Iron Pony last weekend, and although not EXACTLY like the T120, I fell in love with that incredible bike! However, I ended up purchasing the Street Twin, because at $1400 less, I thought it was a better value (and had the same engine). I had them add the knee tank pads and also the bar end mirrors, of which you are showing both of those additions on your new bike. I love ALL the Triumph bikes. They just shout "quality" from head to toe! 👍🏍

Great video, girl - I haven’t seen many videos comparing these two. Would have loved to see some drag races and roll-on races, although I’ve myself been comparing the Scout & the Speedmaster - I’m short and the T120’s too high for me, I think - especially with a pillion. I’m a big fan of the Scout - fantastic power delivery and a brilliant belt drive. But then, I prefer mid controls to cruiser styled forward controls (foot controls, that is) - and the Speedmaster wins here because you can get a factory mid control set up from Triumph but have to rely on after-market kits for the Indian 😢 I ride a Yamaha XJR1300, but am moving to the US where Yamaha never released that model …so I’ll have to make a switch soon - greetings from Oz 🇦🇺

I loved my Octane and my Speed Twin. Both are almost what you are comparing. I had bad luck with both Triumphs I’ve had. The last warranty repair had my Speed Twin transmission stuck in 4th gear. After that I felt like it was time for a more reliable bike. I had sold my Octane before I got the Speed Twin. I sold it mainly because the suspension wasn’t that great.

  • @OneDownGeneUp

I didn’t notice either. However, I’m just your regular rider and I didn’t push the scout to its limits. On Father Bobber’s Indian scout bobber I did notice the suspension being a lot stiffer and less forgiving, but that’s kind of the nature of that bike.

Kind of funny. I just took delivery of same exact bike, ( March 8th ) and same color also. Coming up to 65, so I figured if I am getting another bike, I better do it soon. Only have 150 miles on it so far due to unpredictable WI weather, but absolutely love every mile so far. Came from 75 Sportster, and 81 Sturgis. Have not been on a bike in the last 15 yrs. or so, but it all came back in a few minutes. I agree with everything you touched on. Bike seems to have an ass-load of power, if you need it. I need to adjust shocks some, as @ 225# the shocks don't cut it at current setting. I may be a little out of touch, but Indian is not bashful about getting full $ for accessories / parts. Either way, I am very impressed so far with the bike. Mike

I have a 2016 Indian Scout and it's a great bike. I've had the opportunity to take my Scout across the United States for a trip total of 6,500 miles. I will say that the biggest problem is that the Scout becomes unbearably uncomfortable after two to three hours of riding. It also has a tiny tank and you will need to refuel every 100 - 120 miles depending on how you're riding. Another thing is that all of the side bag options are too small to fit anything substantial in them. Overall, it's a great bike for short trips and has a good amount of torque.

Finished my yard work and watching this is such a great reward! My pick is the Indian Scout! Every bike I have owned has always had forward controls. That is why I chose the Scout. Having that is comfort to me. Laid back and cruising is how I love to ride. When I get cleared to ride again, my next bike is going to be the Scout Sixty, metallic ruby red! My old (totaled) Sportster was a fine ride, but for the money I don't think you can go wrong with the Scout! I tested both the Scout and T120 before buying the T120. The only issue I had with the Scout was blandness. It's got the looks, but perhaps lacks the character. Of course, character is difficult to define and, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. That said, once you find it for you, I'd put it among the very top buying considerations along with comfort (I mean, does anyone really have fun on a bike while they're uncomfortable?).

I own a 2005 t100 but honestly, there's no comparison to a v engine verses an inline. The bike can be thinner. Less chance of engine burn. Sorry, but the V engine with carbs in between is definitely more looks appealing. I've had a 75, CB 750 four, a Kawasaki kx 550, both inline 4s. A VMAX V 4, and a Suzuki gt 500 2 sttoke, like the Triumph Bonneville, a side by side twin. All rode well looked good,in their way. But liked the VMAX side view more cause of the V engine. And come on. There's no touring comfort better than forward controls. The VMAX didn't have that. More dragster than tourer. Love the Indian. But also love the Bonneville and classic bike look.

Who all noticed the guy in the red truck at 10:52 trying to check out the bike and pulled forward after multiple glances?! 😂 Great review! I’m currently vetting out which bike to get after my Rebel 500. Love the classic T120 Bonnie, but have very much enjoyed the cruiser style. What’s gotten me torn is most of the people I ride with are on ADVs and Sport Bikes and much more confident riders than I am so I usually get left in the dust during right turns and my lower back aches after a while riding around. I’m 5’2” and have to lean forward on my tank to give my arms slack and my knees don’t even touch the tank😅 looking for a bike I can really be one with that isn’t too hard to flick in the mountains

Wait a year or so, and we'll be able to pick up a beautifully taken care of used 120 or anything else, for less than the 55 hundred for new RE. Bikes, like cars, lose value right off the lot.
