2021 Honda Accord - 10-speaker Premium Audio Review | Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2021 Honda Accord comes with a 10-speaker sound system in the EX-L and Touring trims. Unfortunately, even with 10 speakers, the sound quality in the Accord is still subpar. On the plus side, the infotainment setup is excellent, with quick response times, an intuitive layout, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. With so much going right for the Accord, it's a shame it doesn't sound better.

You can always buy an aftermarket subwoofer and tie it into the existing sound system. I picked up a JL Audio power wedge and it sounds great when it works although you have to sacrifice some trunk space and having something that isn’t part of the original system can be finicky. The subwoofer controls work well with the built in head unit. Honda just needs to spend some money on decent speakers in their vehicles. At least make it an option.

Here’s my take on this. While im no sound expert, I have been producing music for some time. I own a 2020 insight touring with the 10 speaker “premium” system. 1. The system is extremely unbalanced, there is waaaaaaaay too many high frequency peaks. 2. The system cannot handle vocals well beyond volume 30/40 making them extremely distorted, this will damage the speakers and or your ears 3. With the terrible balance, I find that I need to gain the mids and lows almost all the way up while leaving the treble at default. 4. These speakers will, I repeat WILL give you hearing damage if you like to listen to loud music (any system will give you hearing damage if it is loud enough, but this one is an expert at doing it so) 5. The subwoofer is poorly placed, and will give off tons of resonance with all the flimsy plastic parts. They should at least put isolation foam for this “premium audio experience” 6. The mid range falls into the bad to slightly ok category, the mids being the most important frequencies to the ear feel kind of dead and nothing to be proud of. 7. You will need to replace your speakers at some point, if you like to listen to music above volume 28. These speakers will not last. 8. The amp is terrible, I had to take my car into a dealership because the sound would abruptly stop all of the sudden, and the only way to fix it was to turn the car off for 1 minute, then turn it back on. I was told by a mechanic that the amp would overheat often and it was a safety feature. I would understand if I was bumping the speakers for very long periods, but I was not. 9. The tweeter placement is absolutely terrible, the car already has insane high peaks, the right side tweeters are placed directly towards your ears while the left are not even close to, this creates a phase issue, making it seem like the left side of the car is missing treble while the right side is literally destroying you with peaky highs. Save your money from this fuck it job that Honda put in their “premium” system. Get a balanced system!!!! Too much lows will make your music sound muffled and muddy, too much mids will make you music sound like it’s a 1950’s system or sound like it’s in a tube, too much highs will give you a terrible screechy, squeaky, annoying sound, and a side of hearing loss. Your ears are important, treat them right, especially if you love music. The only!!!! Thing that Honda kind of did ok with was splitting the bass and sun frequencies in their equalizer, I see tons of cars with premium sound systems only having “bass” as an option to gain all the sun and low mids. The mud is insane on those cars. Honda gets a 3/10 in my opinion. As a reference I would give chevy’s Bose system a 6/10 for at least being millions of times more balanced than Honda. Not an amazing system, but it’s ok. This is all opinion based. I can’t call myself an expert but I do have some idea when it comes to sound quality. Hope this helps someone out there so they don’t make the same mistake I did

Thanks for an honest review and the your first rating below a 5 (to my knowledge). My 2014 odyssey had pretty useless audio system which was made worse w the large cabin and intrusive road noise. That car was tiring to drive on extended road trips. I do like this particular infotainment setup w the 2 knobs - I’m surprised it’s not on other Honda products. It’s 10000x better than the Acura non touchscreen setup.

The video makes your interior look a tad gray in color but i’m guessing that’s because of the outdoor lighting and low light causing it to appear that way. My seats and trim are white. Hey man, I currently own a 2021 Accord 2.0 Touring and thanks to an apparent known windshield cracking problem that I’m currently dealing with I’m considering trading it in and getting a civic touring with the Bose system as I was about to drop a few grand into aftermarket audio for it. Obviously I’d be losing some nice features from the Accord line up but I’m actually considering it. The biggest obstacle I have from pulling the trigger is the dreadful head gasket issues with the 1.5 and also the fact that it’s got a CVT. I’d be very upset if I got a Civic and then one day had head gasket issues. What are your thoughts since switching and do you have any advice for me? Also I’m 6ft. Could I fit comfortably in the civic? 😅

Owners need to understand with any car stereo: factory settings suck. You need to adjust the faders forward. Factory centers the faders just behind the drivers seat, which is not the best. The "flat" eq setting is inadequate to overcome road noise and some parts of the spectrum need to be bumped +/-3db

Those I’d say only go from around 80hz upwards. So there’s a huge gap in base but the sub does deliver strong low end bass. 2021 Accord Touring and the rear deck rattles a bit with some songs, this is with the bass and sub woofer settings no more than moderate. With the adjustment in factory settings and the proper source you do get improvement in all categories but the bass is still marginal. I've had factory B&O systems, Bose you name it and they all sound average compared to the premium aftermarket systems I've owned in the past. A box in this car is all you need and then you can go back to enjoying the 2.0 turbo tapping that 10 speed while your dampers are nice and tight. 1/8th runs are a dream in this car for 39K! Oh by the way the Honda sensing tech in this vehicle is close to precise, Mazda not even close. The 19-in wheels are a piece of art and you're able to reach inside and clean the interior of the wheel so the high gloss black shines through and through. Anybody who owns this car should never regret purchasing it because the stereo is average!

Edit: I take everything I say below about the sound system being good back. By default, it's pretty trash. You have to go into the developer menus to get half-decent sound out of the system. It isn't as good as I originally thought. Original: Good video, but I just bought a new 2021 Accord with the 10 speaker system and I think it's great. I had a 2013 Mazda with Bose speakers (factory, not added later) and it's definitely an upgrade, although maybe that's just based on the somewhat unique music I listen to. It definitely isn't the best car speakers I've heard, but I'm happy with it.
