    Best value high end bike out there. I just wish they had internal cable routing at the front and an aero bar. I think you will see the next generation do this as bike companies merge their aero and climbing bikes as Specialized did with the Tarmac.

    Great video bro. I have one on order that got delayed. Only difference is they bring the KOM version into my country, which I am quite happy about as where I ride is very hilly. Ordered a size Small as well, 1.70m tall. Glad to see you are even taller than me on a Small as I ride Mediums in MTB and was a bit concerned about the size. As has been mentioned I would like to change to Dura Ace discs. Also every video of this bike I have seen has SLR bars so I guess it must indeed be listed incorrectly on the websites.

    Hey patt, i really enjoyed your review. Very comprehensive and informative. Also well presented! In regards to the aero performance, how would this bike compare to say, a propel? is it night and day or are the differences negligible? i am going to visit my local giant shop and order this one on friday but i still worry about the aero differences....Do you think the current crop of models are ever gaining on their aero bike counterparts?

  • @pattnwia

    @pattnwia

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi, thanks :) im glad my video helped you out. To answer your question, newer bikes are becoming more aero. Before it was a clear difference between light weight climbing bikes and full aero bikes. Now the lightweights like the TCR are becoming more aero, but still wont be as aero as the full aero bikes (propel). The new Specialized tarmac is essentially a Venge. You will be able to tell the differences. On flats you can easily feel the propel will be faster, but the TCR will be better for climbing, so it really depends on what you ride more. I would suggest test riding both the TCR and the Propel to see which one you like more. I tried the propel and didnt really like it, so i went with the TCR. Congrats on your bike btw !!

    Or just some car wax will help cover the scratch cosmetically. If you want a more permanent fix, consider getting car polish (e.g. Meguiar's Scratch X). Nail polish might be overkill if the scratch doesn't penetrate all the way through the clear coat. Just a thought.

Before buying the bike, i tried both M and S sizes and found that i liked the Small size more. i like the more aggressive position from the shorter head stack on the S size. The smaller size will be lighter and more nimble compared to the M. So seeing that i fit on both sizes, the Small size will give me more performance. The current Cervelo R3 Ultegra Di2 disc is 7.39kg with pedals. So very similar weight to this TCR. New aero frames with disc is generally heavier than older less aero frames on rim brakes in this category. You will need to buy the D-Fly bluetooth module. Super easy to install. Then you can get the gears displaying on your Garmin head unit, if you have one of those. Heaps of internet posts around not messing with the factory settings via the mobile phone app - many saying it essentially bricks the Di2 unit. So I've never used this, and don't see a reason to. I use the auto shifting modes which changes the front derailleur as you go up the gears. There is a button on the charging port that allows you to manually change the shift modes. Easy.

    hey buddy - I think I am in between size (S and XS). I am currently using a Giant Contend 3 (S size) and am considering an XS TCR Advanced Pro. Any advice? I am 168cm, 62kg, fairly flexible and looking to use the bike for HAM/quick rides and climbing.

  • @pattnwia

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey, Hmmmm its rare to find a XS size for a mens TCR, you would have to special order it from bike shops because they rarely stock that size. According to the Giant sizing guide, you are probably a S, but a XS would be very aggressive, suitable because your flexible and want to go fast. I would say to go try out a S size, and if it feels a bit big, then i would size down to a XS. I am 175 cm and my recommended size is M , i have ridden both sizes and i prefer the S size. Hope that helps :)

    Nice review. Well done. My only suggestion would be to comment on the built-in shift modes of Di2. When I first tried this on my 2020 TCR Adv Pro 1, I didn't like them at all. Couldn't understand how to change modes properly, and couldn't get used to front or rear derailleurs shifting by themselves. Now I leave it in auto and let the front shift by itself and really enjoy how it works. And the hoods have buttons that you can program to change the screens on your Garmin, which is really nice. I don't have sprint shifters, but I know you can get these as well.

  • @pattnwia

    Great question!! If you get a flat that can't be sealed. You will have to use a standard bike tube. Luckily all small punctures should be sealed by the sealant automatically, and larger nails would require a plug. Anything beyond that would be super unlucky, and would probably destroy any bike tire, regardless of tubeless or tubed setup. Hope that helps !!! Beautiful bike and great review! I'll be purchasing my first "road" bike in the next few months...currently riding a gravel bike on all sorts of terrain. Trying to decide between the TCR and Defy. Have you tried the Defy? As someone coming from a more relaxed geometry gravel bike, I'm concerned that the TCR will be too long/low for me. Obviously a bike fit will answer these questions, but wondering if you had any thoughts. Thanks!

    Hey!! very exciting !! I have tried the defy back in 2016 when i was comparing it with the TCR, so I was in quite a similar situation as you. I ended up choosing the TCR because it felt just that bit more aggressive. Both bikes are great bikes, so i guess it just depends on how you feel during your test of the two bikes. I personally like to go fast and climb hills, so the TCR was the choice for me. Hope that helps !!

    Very informative video on the 21 TCR - great color choice btw! :) Question: How did you decide to pick the Size S? I am 176cm (1cm more than you) and am deciding btwn S and M.

  • @pattnwia

    @pattnwia

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yep, so I actually test rode both sizes for about 15 mins each. While both sizes fit me, riding a smaller size does have a weight advantage, so it should feel more nimble and faster accelerating when compared to the size M. Secondly, a smaller size gets me in a more aggressive position so thats why i chose it. Also the stock stem on the size S is 90mm, which i swapped out for a 100mm to fit me better. hope that helps :)

    Hi, The TCR hasn't really changed much since 2016. The difference with the 2021 models were just small changes to the tube shapes for more aero. I would recommend a giant defy or any endurance road bike for bike packing. The TCR is more of a race bike, but you can still put up to 32 mm tires on it.

    Hey, thanks !!! I did. In fact i had a 2016 TCR that was size M. Fits me perfectly fine. I just prefer the smaller size because it is lighter and more nimble. Its really down to personal preference, Id say give both a try. Some people like the bigger frame for more stability. And i personally liked the 40cm wide bar, so that's another reason why i went with size S. Hope that helps !!
