Keep in mind with the ride, the Ford comes with 20" wheels/ tires vs 22" for the Silverado! That makes a difference in ride quality :-) I Run 22' on my 1/2 ton in the summer and 20" in the winter, the 22" are a much harsher ride!

Half the people who buy these things are doing so for the macho image, the high seating position and they want to truck to look good (which can mean the 19 through 22 inch tires if that is your preference). They aren't going to use them the way trucks were designed to be used in the past. Perhaps not the smartest decision, but that's where the market is.

Had a ‘17 diesel Colorado with a GDE tune. Holed a piston. All 4 pistons had cracks in the pin bosses, and all conrod bearings were pounded out. At 132,000 k. Replaced with a ‘21 RST standard box with a 6.2 and 10 speed. For the 14k it cost to simply repair my 4 cyl diesel, I can buy 2 complete 6.2 gassers. Done with diesel. To my eye, the RST is a better looking truck.

Interior Ford has stepped up their game, but I’ve never thought the Chevys were bad. I’m probably about the same age as your dad and I remember when trucks were just trucks, rough a cobs, but now these trucks are comfortable, pretty economical and to prove their everyday usability see how many moms you see driving these beast and their little ones around. I have a 2019 F 150 with the Sport/ Special Edition Package if you compare the 21 to 2015 - 2020 there are some changes but if loose at these Trucks from the rear and side view there is hardly any difference. I know they tweaked the interior and the front end design but you know what it’s not a redesigned truck guys it’s a refresh Ram is redesigned not Ford .

i have mixed feelings on the payloads. payloads seem very small first thought for Chevy - towing a 9klb trailer, 10% tounge weight is 900lbs out of the 1389lbs, leaving 500lbs... thinking of my family, all 6' tall 200+lbs, i could only take 1 other person in the truck with me before going over capacity. Second thought - if im maxing out this 1500 truck with a 9000lb trailer regularly, i would upgrade to a 2500. third thought, i believe Chevy said before that 95% of people dont tow more than 5000lbs. even if i won the lottery, i dont see myself buying a boat thats over 9000lbs so a 1500 would likely be just fine "to each their own."

I think the Ford looks a touch better, but I wouldn't want either one of these. I prefer the stripped down type of truck better. Plus I would rather have a standard cab with an eight foot bed. Too bad they put such huge wheels on trucks these days. I prefer a lot more sidewall to the tire.

At about 15 mpg compared to 20 mpg means it would cost about the same to operate either truck because diesel is $1+ more per gallon than gasoline. Chevy owners are saying they get 30 plus mpg with the diesel. I've seen 26-27 mpg with the 2.7L Ford but not with the 3.5L.

F150 hybrid is rated at 24/24 and owners have seen up to 29 mpg. That's why Ford dropped the Power stroke diesel from the F150. You have to be towing all the time for diesel to make sense.
