2021 Ford F-150 | Review & Road Test

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

For the latest Ford F-150 pricing and information:
www.kbb.com/ford/f-150/
Half of America liked the Ford F-150 before this recent update, and now the other half is probably going to buy it, too. While it’s not a complete overhaul there are a lot of significant and pretty cool new features to talk about. So why are you still standing there?
Let’s get the Captain Obvious ones out of the way. The exterior has seen some changes to the front fascia that give the F-150 more presence and gravitas. As if it needed it.
There are some changes in the character lines in the sheet metal and the headlights and taillights get a redo.
On the tailgate, there are some cool deets as well.
There are some notches here for C-clamps, a pocket to put your phone, and even a spot for your beer for when you’re done with all that work.
The 12.0-inch touchscreen that you can see from Canada comes standard on the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. It’s available as an option on the XLT.
The base model gets an 8-inch version. There’s an updated instrument cluster that now gets a 4-inch digital display between the analog gauges that can be upgraded to a fully digital 12.3-inch display. Also, seen from Canada.
The interior looks a lot sleeker and less busy, while still being really usable and functional.
Let’s talk about the recline on these bad boys upfront. Full recline like a first-class seat on Virgin Atlantic to London, folks, for a bit of shut-eye. Another noteworthy addition, this fold-down shifter. That shifter help make room for the optional work surface you can get. Great for folks on the job site using their laptop or who might need to eat on the go.
In the drivetrain department there six options on the F-150 to chose from.
First is a naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6, a twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8 that now includes a bump in horsepower (400 hp/410 lb-ft torque) as well as a cylinder deactivation system. A 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost, 3-liter V6 turbodiesel…
And an all-new Hybrid model called the Power Boost pairs the 3.5-liter turbo EcoBoost V6 with an electric motor that can now easily out tow the Ram 1500.
Truly this thing is a monster (430 hp/570 lb-ft torque) Look at those torque numbers. (12,000 pounds max towing). Also, gets a 700-mile range on a tank of gas (25 city/26 hwy). You can get one of these on an XL SuperCrew for a starting price of $41,145.
All engines mate to Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, which we haven’t had 100% love for in the past especially in the Explorer. Would be nice to get slightly quicker shifts when we’re in manual mode.
I wish we had the hybrid engine to test. But we’ll snag that from Ford next time around.
When it comes to safety Ford’s upgraded there too including the entire Co-Pilot 360 safety suite as an option. Which is a good thing because this thing is big.
Another one of the cool features available now is Ford’s Pro Power Onboard Generator. Basically, you can plug-in appliances to this thing.
It’s got a bunch of plugs in the back. You can get it configured differently for what your specific needs are.
It comes standard on higher trim levels but is only a $750 option on the lower trims, but that’s still an insane value. You can get a 2kw, 2.4kw, or 7.2kw version of it depending on which trim level you buy.
We heard about folks in Texas using this feature when their power went out during the recent storms, and are impressed. This is by far one of the coolest features to get put on any vehicle that I’ve seen in a while.
Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist helps out with towing duties with great camera angles and guidelines. Images are crystal clear.
Pricing on the F-150 two-door issue starts at $28,940. With two half doors on the SuperCab, you’re looking at $33,025. For whole doors in the second row that starting price moves up to $36,650. The FX-4 off-road package adds $1,005 there. On the high end the Limited trim is going to start at $70,825.

I have a 2011 F-150 with over 150k miles, and it drives like new. Barely had a thing wrong with it, except for the standard parts that are expected to go out at 100k miles. I'm looking forward to getting my next F150.

@The Man I think everyone's point is that surface rust is actually showing up extremely faster than it should on a brand new truck. Not just in the Midwest after winter show and tons of that salt solution starts to do its job.

@The Man I would agree, that's not my issue. this is a brand new truck and most of the rust is on the driveline. Its a shame because my dads 2004 f150 has lest rust than my brand new one.

I’ve seen marketing focus group results for this kind of decision in a different trunk line. Very few (percentage) customers want column shifters it turns out. It is combination of things. The majority wants a shifter where Ford chose to put it here. The second largest group wants a button or knob, as long as the transmission is not a CVT. I don’t really understand the dislike of the steering column shifter, but it definitely exists. Taking it a step further, I saw some comments indicating a strong dislike of a column shifter but a desire for paddle shifters behind the wheel. You could probably guess the demographic that indicated that, and how they would use the truck.

If you going the full Luxury route the King Ranch has the nicest Interior color wise as well also I prefer the Platinum it pretty much has the Limited features for around 5000 less!

By no means is this a bad review, but just give this truck to a work crew for a few days and shoot some video. You’ll immediately realize what’s good and bad about it. And it will give Ford better feedback to improve the design. You can talk about max towing capabilities but I’m sure a 3.5EcoBoost hybrid or diesel will tow MUCH better than let’s say a Chevy V8 even though they tow nearly the same amount. Just my $0.02. I can’t wait for the Lightning to come out as I love my F-150 as a daily and fun truck to have for surfing and projects. But 15mpg is absolutely terrible.

@@MarkRenn Not at all. Column shifters, particularly gated ones, are the most intelligent form of shifter there is, and there several reasons. -For starters, it's more space efficient, allowing you to elimination a center console, if desired, or just simply clearing up the center console for other features. -Another reason, and more importantly, it's right by your hand, so you can easily see it and operate quickly. -Another one, and easily the most important of all, is they work with feel and muscle memory, which is import to secondary motor operation. Instead of having to look down and see what gear you're in, your body just knows where everything is at and where things are supposed to be. Basically, Instead of having to think about it, you just do it, allowing you to focus on more important tasks. It actually increase safety and helps the driver better operate the vehicle. These are reasons police agencies require automakers to including column shifter for police spec vehicles. This is why work vehicles, generally, have them, and why less "bourgee" versions of the F150 still offer it, because fleets much prefer it.

@@ALMX5DP I honestly just can’t believe pricing. Around me in metro Detroit you can’t touch a new truck for under 40k. Toddler and up makes sense but can’t go wrong with a nice suv or van during baby stages. So much stuff with a baby and I would be annoyed hauling it in the bed all the time

@@btbbelesky true, I have similar opinions and think a minivan is still the best family hauler around. But people have their preferences and many minivans or midsize SUVs cost a similar amount anyways, so some may feel the added capability is worth it to them.

@@ALMX5DP I agree on the mini van 100% after having my son last year. I sold my smaller extended cab f150 and got a Ford Flex. Best decision for ease of family hauling now. I just borrow my moms truck or rent one on that rare occasion I need one. I loved the truck but no getting around a full size is huge and I love how easy the flex is going to doc appointments, errands etc. I wouldn’t mind another truck at some point but defiantly don’t miss it like I thought

@@btbbelesky we also have very small discounts where I live in Colorado, but a $180 one way ticket to Kansas City got me $14k off msrp on my then-new 2018. No sense in buying local if the economy is strong where you live. That being said, 2021 F150s won't be discounted much since they're brand new. I'll keep driving my 2018 until I can get a good deal on the F150 hybrid with generator mode

Way too expensive. $40k out the door for a BASE model crew cab. The truck market has gone absolutely insane. $40k for a well-equipped model is one thing, but either the base models have to be cheaper or start offering more things as standard. It’s really way out of hand at this point even with incentives

Well, 20 or 30 years ago, a loaded truck was around $40,000. Quick inflation adjustment, that's about $60,000-$70,000 today, which means prices have actually been steady with inflation. Keep in mind that trucks from yore just weren't as nice, they didn't have as many features, they weren't as capable, they didn't have the same level of safety. In fact, you couldn't even get a 4 door.

  • @gothops154

    @gothops154

And production efficiency and technological advancements mean the prices should be going down, not up, nor steady. The current prices are much too high for what you get at each trim level. If the base crew/4x4 is going to start at over $30k, it should be equipped like a >$30k vehicle, not like some $20k vehicle. The prices are much too high.

  • @AkioWasRight

    @AkioWasRight

@@gothops154 The market sets the prices, not production efficiency. If buyers have $XX,000 to spend, then competing producers will try to offer the most they can for that price. It's that simple. If GM can one up Ford for the set price and make a profit, they will. The rest of your comment completely ignores what I first said, and is just arbitrary and baseless nonsense. They aren't equipped like $20,000 vehicles, and too high for what? They sell, which is all that matters.
