2021 Dodge Challenger GT AWD | 12 Month Muscle Car | Reviewed By Kevin Corrigan | Automotive Affairs

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The third-generation model of the Dodge Challenger first showed up in 2008, and has been in continues production ever since.
Over the last 13 years, very little has changed, but it still manages to outsell the sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaro by a huge margin - and the Camaro is a much newer design!
Dodge has been offering the Challenger with a all-wheel drive system since 2017, and while this version hasn't changed much over the years, we thought that we should talk about this - since everyone else just lusts after the SRT and Hellcat variants!
Plus, in Canada, where every part of the country has snow, having AWD makes sense!
So, let's take a closer look, shall we!
Styling: The overall shape of the Challenger hasn't changed much since 2008, but thanks to new headlights, tail lights, hood, and wheels, the design still looks fresh - this is an attractive automobile. Score: 8/10
Interior: For a huge car, the space inside is not as commodious as you might think - although it is much better than a Chevy Camaro or the Ford Mustang.
There is very little place to put things in the interior, no real place for your phone, and no wireless charging either.
On the plus side, the seats are large and comfortable, and its infotainment screen is large and easy to use - we enjoyed our time in this interior. Score: 6/10
Safety: Not nearly as safe as its looks suggest - it gets a middle of the road score from IIHS, which is not good enough these days! Score: 4/10
Powertrain: Lots of engine options for the Dodge Challenger, from 3.6L V6, to 5.7L V8, to 6.4L V8, to supercharged 6.2L V8. The GT AWD model gets the Chrysler group familiar Pentastar 3.6L V6 which is good for 305 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all-wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. We just wish Dodge would offer the Challenger all-wheel drive with V8 power - if they can do it for the Durango, they can do it for the Challenger! Score: 6/10
Performance: There are lots of fast Challenger models, but due to the V6 engine only for the AWD, this is not a fast vehicle - but it's not slow either! 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) takes about 6.4 seconds, and it'll top out at about 240 km/h! Score: 5/10
Driving Dynamics: This is not a sharp vehicle, more of a luxury cruiser. So, if you have long distances to cover, you'll love this.
Show it some corners and surprisingly, the turn-in is very good. However, the weight and size of this vehicle prevent it from being a canyon carver.
While the V8, SRT, and Hellcat Redeye models might be thrilling to drive, the V6 GT AWD is just OK! It rides well, and that makes it an easy car to live with every day, and due to all-wheel drive, it can be used every day - even in Canada. Score: 5/10
Fuel Economy: We averaged 11.5L/100 km in our test cycle (180 km on the highway, 120 km in city driving), and given the size of this vehicle, it is not bad at all. Score: 5/10
Pricing: The Dodge Challenger range starts from just $30,000 and goes all the way to up just above $100,000. In short, there is a Challenger for everyone! Our GT AWD tester was worth $50,865 - that's good value. Score: 8/10
Verdict: All in all, the Challenger is a very good vehicle, and there is a model for every budget and need! It's not perfect, but nothing is! Total score: 47/80

Phenomenal review! I have a 2021 AWD GT in Pitch Black with the Black Top Package/Plus Package/Driver Convenience Group/Sun Roof/Harman Kardon Sound System. It’s the best car I’ve ever driven. Handled way better than my Subaru Crosstrek did in the snow, this past winter. Everything in your review hit home and you have a great speaking voice. Thank you for not down sizing it for being a V6. Too many people love to hate. Once again, amazing review and video! Love the color!

11.5L/100 km is about 20.4 mpg. Reasonable for combined driving. The AWD sold me for Ohio winters, and I appreciate the several Canadian reviews on KZread of this V6 beast. Awaiting my Go Mango from Brampton this summer. It's hellraisin' in any color you choose. Thank you for the review!

Thank you for the review. Challenger GT AWD is great cruiser giving the driver and crew old-school style, comfort, space and some fun. I would consider the V6 as cruiser rather than muscle car - let's leave this to V8 trims. Agree with nice sound being in fact not bad for V6, and reasonable fuel economy even by mid-European point of view (considering 300 HP, not completely slow and big heavy car): I can keep around 10-11 L/100 km easily and even better on long trips, city stop & go driving of course being worse but not exceeding around 12 L/100 km. AWD works well for snow and other slippery surfaces. After 1 1/4 year I have her as my daily, enjoying the weekend kind of fun even on business trips🙂.

People underestimate the power of a v6 challenger. If you come from a 4 cylinder standard sedan these will feel fast asf the first time. These have enough power to get people in trouble.

This was one of a few videos that I looked into before ordering a GT AWD. My only regret (so far) is that I waited for the 2023 edition; partly to save up a bit extra but also in case they had anything exceptional to add for the final year. Sadly, there didn't end up being anything along the lines of what I expected and it ended up costing the loss of the HellRaisin color I was dreaming of (still ended up with the deep crimson "Octane Red"). One of the few reviews I got to see that focused on exactly what I needed: "Car looks great, works in all weather, sounds strong, and has enough power." Because I live 90% in the city, a Hemi would be wasted (literally and figuratively) for me. So it's great to hear voices that talk about what the car is instead of whinging that "it doesn't have a V8" and ending every praise with that want.

My 2018 gets +19 mpg, but on a highway trip I get +30 mpg at around 75 to 80 mph. Its great for long trips; holds the road well, and the seats are comfortable. It doesn't have the punch of a V8 but easily gets out of it's own way, which is saying something considering it's size. The All Wheel Drive is Amazing! It handles better than a four wheel drive in the rain, ice, or snow. In dry conditions the AWD will kick in if it breaks loose; it will take a corner quicker than your stomach and keep pulling. The 3.6l Pentastar V6 is a princess about it's oil, especially in the winter; You have to run a full synthetic And one that doesn't thicken too bad in the cold. Pennzoil Premium synthetic was the worst; but I'm still looking for an oil that doesn't effect the Variable Timing Solenoids around zero degrees. Nothing is more disheartening than when your car sounds like an old Harley Davidson on cold startup. I hope this helps if anyone is considering one of these cars.

I ordered one almost exactly like this a couple weeks ago. (Hellraisen, you bet!) I ordered the AWD because though there is no snow down here in Central Florida, we just entered the rainy season, and I want all the traction I can get. FWD is OK, RWD means fishtailing, but I hope AWD will be just right.
