2021 Aprilia Tuono 660 Review
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Aprilia Tuono 660 is a bike that I’ve been eager to ride since I first laid eyes on the pretty production-ready looking concept at EICMA 2019. Even through what was left of my tired red occhi, dried from so many hours of planes, trains, and automobiles (what I would give for that now!), I was digging the “naked” version of the RS660 more than the sportybike itself.
And really, it does come down to which look you prefer, because they’re almost identical, aside from styling and the essential naked bike handlebar. In fact, since Troy has already reported his riding impressions of the RS660 on the street, track, and in video, I’ll just link to those and go about my day…
Ha! Yeah, right! The story here isn’t so much about how Aprilia’s two new machines are alike, but rather, it’s the Italian marque’s foray into an entirely new segment. Aprilia’s latest offering is jumping into one of, if not the, most competitive class(es) in motorcycling today: middleweight naked bikes.

Aprillia is known for horrible customer/warranty service. Ducati’s been trying to improve their image but aprillia just doesn’t care. They’ll do anything to not pay a warranty, anything. That’s why dealers won’t sell them, it either severely hurts their reputation or they end up having to eat the costs of fixing the bike to make it right with the customer. Or both. If I owned a dealership I wouldn’t do business with them either. Any company that won’t stand behind its warranty or it’s customers isn’t one you want associated with your business

Makes me wonder if an exhaust and ECU flash would bring back the mid-range power. Makes me wonder if it's there due to emissions regs.

When you talk about going on a Duke, do you mean regular 890 or R version?
It needs a heavier crankshaft to get the bottom end surge that's missing...
does the tuono come with the pruble/ red colour?
I agree that this splits categories. It's significantly better than an MT-07 or Trident 660, and not quite as punchy as some of the bigger displacement alternatives. I primarily cross-shopped the Tuono 660 Factory with the Duke 890 and Street Triple, but I bought the Tuono 660 Factory. I do wish it had a bit more power (like 110HP), but other than that, it's pretty much a perfect bike. This is a second bike in my garage and I didn't want to spend the extra $$ for the Duke or Monster, but wanted the premium features and electronics. In that sense, I think the Aprilia is in a category of its own.

Think this model had a different map and /or gearing - maybe that's why the flat spot. Insurance here in PNW is 400-750cc and 750-1000cc so the 660cc is in the cheaper insurance bracket.

Weirdly enough, the 2022 KTM RC390 was quoted at the same insurance cost for me even though it only makes 40HP. My V Strom 650 is half the insurance cost of either the RC390 or the Tuono 660 despite being between them in both power and value. Meanwhile the 890 Duke is somehow just barely more than my V Strom despite being the strongest bike in this bunch. I noticed it from 4200rpm right up to 6500rpm. I let my neighbour who has an MT07 ride it and his first comment was exactly the same thing. After 6500rpm, it's fun and comes alive, but it really bothered me. He was faster digging out of the corners, while I was left waiting for the bike to kick in. I had the bike for 6 weeks knowing it wasn't going to make me happy, so decided to trade it for a duke. Not as pretty as the Aprilia, but torque and power everywhere and a much nicer machine to ride. But everyone to their own. I was drawn to the Tuono and bought the Tuono for the looks and the sound of that engine, but you can't look at your bike while riding. Best thing is to ride one for yourself and pick a bike that meets your needs but also feels and rides the way you want it to 😊
With the release of the Taureg 660 I decided to rewatch the other Aprillia 660 bike reviews. For having a 2k rpm dead spot it seems to get with the program in the videos I've seen. May as well add the big Ducati Supersport to the high end competition as it is the first upper tier ride I would buy before the 660. Aprillia brings a lot to the table for the dollar and pretty much trounces the lower tier while being more desirable than the KTM or Triumph, both of which are Asian I believe.

Be A Racer? Are they trying to be KTM? That’s corny. The price on this bike is terrible. You don’t get a lot for your money. The electronic nannies are completely unnecessary. The only person for whom this bike may make any sense is maybe someone that only wants it for the track. But in that case you’d get the RS660. An overpriced, underpowered, fully-clothed naked bike with no midrange...WTF?
OK, gotcha: Yet another overpriced Italian motorcycle with glaring engineering flaws marketed as "character". There is no way anyone in their right mind would drop that kind of money on this bike. For RS, yeah maybe, but for this? Nah, man!
