Hi, thank you so much for such informative content! I have my dentistry degree from Mexico and I am not sure how to go about the letters of recommendation. I have asked 2 people so far and #1. They will write it in spanish, and #2. I will need translations. Do they have to go separately to a translating agency to get the certified translation or can they translate it on their own? On the portal, do they need to upload the documents or do they write on a specific space provided? Thanks so much in advance!

Hi, thank you for your kind words. Nevertheless, letters of recommendation are school-specific; one sure thing is translating from any language to American English. Yes, your recommenders can translate them on their own. If you asked for Colorado, they would answer a few questions (so, have to be written by them in English), and if it’s CAAPID, they can upload the translated letters.

How Does One CHANGE the Letters of Rec on the CAPPID Application to select which ones to submit to each school? Currently it does not seem to allow this. Some schools want 3 letters from workers and do not need a Dean letter. Others want a Dean letter, Faculty and a work. In order to change the 3 letters it seems that CAPPID should Allow you to upload as many as you want and select which ones go to each school>>??? This is an important question because the Dean letter is only asked for at a few schools (is labeled is MUST) but it useless as the school was attended 20 years ago and it would be in the best interest to submit three other letters to the other schools>. Cappid limits how many are able to send letters>. WHY?? Or is there a way around this>. Thank you for any help. Maybe I am missing something?

There is no way around this. You can only upload 3 letters, and those are the three that go to each school. If a school has a different requirement, they allow you to send them sealed copies of the additional letter/ recommender can directly email the school/ you can upload scanned unofficial copy in Caapid Program Materials. You should always check with the individual school how they would prefer you send them the additional letter.

When do I have to take the INBDE if I want to join dental school in fall 2022?

You can take it anytime. Most candidates take in the last year or internship year of their home country dental school. If you have already graduated some years back, you can take it anytime. It is best to take it at least 1-2 months before you plan on applying (March - Applications Open).

If you've already taken the test, the scores are valid until one more cycle. You will need to however check individual college sites for cycles after 2023

Can the INDBE be taken up from a pro metric centre in India?

No, Dr. Ayesha. Unfortunately, there are no Prometric centers for iNBDE in India. While you can take that test only in the States and Canada, the pros are getting international exposure, further adding to your career interests.
