    yeah I saw that, I thought he did hit the wheel, either way that was FREAKING CLOSE!!!! Incredible show, and how aerodynamics makes a difference. NZ is very good at track too, nothing to sneeze at.

    Its not the mechanic :D its the aero-coach Kasper, you can't buy or get the helmet anymore so Kasper cares ALOT about thoes helmets :D

    Comparing the splits between this world record and Great Britain's in 2012, there's no comparison. 1k Den-1:00.9 GB-1:02.5 2k Den-1:54.6 GB-1:58.4 3k Den-2:49.6 GB-2:54.7 4k Den-3:44.6 GB-3:51.6 Then consider that New Zealand was decimated in this race and they were still 1.9 seconds faster than the GB world record.

    I'm pretty sure Dan is only working with them in a technical role, not quite coaching really. And he had a bit to do with it for sure, but saying it's all Dan's work is selling the Danes short, they're obviously 4 incredible athletes.

    @@htdtr true its a very superlative way of speaking. HOWEVER, don’t underestimate the significance of technical consultancy. At this level thousandths of seconds count. Also, not to downplay their achievement but the Danes physiologically don’t have much difference from the rest of the highest echelon of this discipline, they’re just (incredibly) well prepared for this event

    In 1k the time it takes to get to speed affects the final speed average more than in 4k.

    Once and for all to all you fine people who belive it was the helmet that gave Denmark the victory. There is absolutely nothing new or revolutionary about that helmet! It is an old design. POC came out with it in 2012 . Anyone could buy it for 300-400 €

    20 years ago this event was the 4 minute barrier in cycling ,now it's at 3:44 . The mile running world record took almost 46 years to go from 4:00 to 3:43 . It's crazy how much better cycling has got in the last few years in terms of time trial and aerodynamics

    True, even the monumental leap in shoe technology over the past ~2 years hasn't resulted in new records for the mile or similar distances. 5k and up have been more drastically effected.

    Tom Walters its crazy. The winning time for GBR in the world championship 2018 was 3.55.something. 9ish seconds in two years. It can only come down to distribution and weather. But you probably know it better. Surely the tecs didn’t develop that much in just two years?

    @@jacobjacobsen2798 Please they raced on a concrete outdoor velodrome that was 333m long and banked 33 degrees on the bends. Given the same track, weather conditions and modern cycling gear they would be right behind todays riders if not in front. Back then no EPO but blood doping was legal - USA team. For the Olympics steroids were out of control - 68/72/76/80/84. Then Ben Johnson 88 admitted that he had been using them for 9 years.

    They have said that they kept the good stuff hidden until the olympics, like the new suits, so others wouldn't have time to do the same as them. But they said that this world record was more than they espected, so who knows. For the first 2 times they set world record at this, they knew they could do it better though, so they were not totally happy about those world records.

Frederik passes out a lot of times and the rest of the team is just so used to it, that they just catch him and then they keep on celebrating the win :P And Frederik doesn't care.     Tracks will have to be bigger the speeds increase so.much a 3 sec gap is half a football pitch and has you starting to find the slip stream of the other team. Track is too small.

    It's supposed to work as a wing and have air flow away from the body. They'd still have one with far less ugly helmets, though.
