2020 Range Rover Sport | More Than Just Status?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We review the new 2020 Range Rover to test luxury vs utility and function. There are problems with the HSE, however, with so many things right a certain buyer will buy this with little thought. The competition is nuts and products like the Kia Telluride, BMW X7, Audi Q7 are close in price, good luck making a decision!

    We’ve owned a 2014 Sport supercharged since new. And extended warranty to 100,000 miles. And it gets the snot beat out of it. We have always since 20,000 mls taken it off-road and absolutely covered it in mud and it has never said no. Nothing more fun than flying over nasty conditions and throwing giant rooster tails. And logging roads at well above normal speeds are an absolute riot! Only 1 strut malfunction in 91,770 miles, do to a sensor. And 1 fuel pump issue. It will be gone before warranty is up ( we’re not stupid). Has been a wonderful vehicle! Love pulling up to valet at hotels with it caked in mud. The slow infotainment is annoying. But like anything, you learn its shortcomings and deal. Every other aspect outweighs that. And the big dog Meridian system is a whopper! And that cooler in the console is great for road “sodas”. We live on a long dirt road and it spends more time dusty or muddy than clean. We bought it for its capabilities and not to be a mall queen. It’s got trail damage on underside and had a few cladding scratches. I don’t understand buying something and not using its potential. Wonderful camping trip machine. And would certainly own another. My mother in-law still owns a 2006 RR (the red beast) and it too gets the balls run off it. And besides basic maintenance and while under warranty, covered repairs. The biggest thing to happen to it since was failed backup camera. Got a junkyard unit and she’s doing well. And I might add, when we leave it for service once a year, we drive off in a brand new Land Rover. We are sold. It just works and begs to have the go fast pedal to the floor.

    For work I used to drive a Range Rover Sport in 2012. Like 40k kms in and the gearbox would throw messages of Error telling me to shut down the car and take it to a dealer. I did, they said the fixed it. One month later the Errors came back. It went back to the dealer. Then it did it again and they said they called an "expert" from UK to work out the issue. It never did, at this point we just sold it and got a Porsche Cayenne Hybrid (perfect, never missed a bit). A few years later a friend wanted to get a RR Evoque and asked my opinion. I said stay the fuck away. He didn't listen and bought it. Few months in and like 5k kms he had a gearbox failure in the middle of nowhere in Sardegna, full summer, 40 Celsius outside 😂😂 Teaches him well 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @shamrocky

    @shamrocky

    4 жыл бұрын

    The gear box fault is a well known error and surprisingly has nothing to do with the gearbox, when you get that message it means the main battery or the auxiliary battery is low and either needs a good charge or replaced, I've owned an evoque since 2012 and it still runs beautifully. The gearbox fault can be annoying at times but is nothing to worry about.

  • @SpaghettiKillah

    Yeah, Land Rover isn't known for reliability. But most luxury SUVs aren't particularly good in that regard. As for the Cayenne... I think it may have been better in the past. A family member recently bought the current model Cayenne Hybrid and from the start it had a squeaking/rattling driver's seat and the driver's door wouldn't close properly (issue with the electric motor). The infotainment system had issues with Carplay and would sometimes freeze randomly. It also doesn't help that the huge amount of gloss plastic in the interior make it look like a 30k Euro Kia... not great for a 120k Euro car. The interior of the Range Rover in this video definately looks nicer, even though it too has a little bit of gloss plastic.

    I picked up my 2019 RRS V8 Autobiography in May of last year and have put just over 30K miles on it so far. Its been an absolute blast to drive on and off-road. I hit the trails every 2 weeks or so and aside from the tires letting me down a few times, it never fails me. I think people who purchase/lease these things, don't care about the issues some other owners might have, or the overall reliability of the brand, cause they want a Range Rover for what it means and what the brand stands for. No other SUV drives like a Range Rover, especially once you get it tuned to squeeze out some extra power from that Supercharged V8. The sound system is unreal for a mid-range choice (not the 3D option) and the infotainment is workable and liveable as long as you don't go playing with Porches, or Audis, you will feel as its as up to date as it needs to be. They have brought out a few software updates for the infotainment since I picked mine up and it keeps getting better and more responsive. Only had one issue that was covered under warranty, which was also my fault (took it swimming) but other then that its been an absolute blast to own.

It'll drive through anything towing a boat in fact. Greetings from Mexico!!! I´ve been following your channel for quite some time and even though I have very different taste than yours I think your reviews are very professional. I´m reaching out because it seems to be the time to replace my 2 row mid size SUV, currently our family has a Lincoln MKX 2011 for traveling purposes and it has been "ok", we have always had Ford cars but I think we´re ready to quit that brand so I´d like your opinion on this subject. The MKX size seems to be the right one for us that means 2 row mid size SUV but we need something more reliable and trouble free, we try to keep are cars for a long time (more than 5 years) so getting the latest tech possible available at the moment would help not feeling that the car is outdated in the long term. We´d like something comfortable, soft ride and with enough power to help passing on small two way roads. Premium category would be nice but not necessary and wouldn´t like to spend more than $80,000.00 USD, maybe something Asian, important to let you know that Lexus is not available in Mexico any recommendations? Please pardon my English it isn´t my native language, thanks.

    ... Lamborghini spends 3-4 days cutting, buffing and polishing their cars prior to delivery, or sends them back for repaint is the imperfection is bad enough to warrant a repaint. Most other makes are one pass under the bright lights and done with spot corrections. Then, I'm not sure what the dealer level of involvement is when it comes to preparing a vehicle for the lot...

    I shopped some Jags as a potential lease a year ago and (IMO) for the price they were asking the interior quality was very lacking unless you went to the highest trim levels. RR on the other hand typically deliver, but you're paying for every last bit of it and then some.

    I recently leased one of these for my wife after considering the q7, xc90, and x5. I’m not thrilled with the “Rover” image or the infotainment either but honestly it’s still the best all around luxury suv even if you don’t take it off road. I’ve had a several Bmws, and the build quality of this feels a step above. No rattles or squeaks, high quality materials, etc. The Q7 is ugly and drives like a pig due to its front heavy platform. The new x5 is very nice but doesn’t have the same ride quality or steering feel (the terrible steering was a deal breaker). In terms of quality it’s actually behind the RRS since it’s a redesign and they are working out the kinks. The xc90 is 4 popper only and is even more touch screen dependent. Doesn’t drive nearly as well. As far as the infotainment, bmw is the only one that does it well imo. Touch screens in cars are a bad idea and not safe/easy to use while driving. With the Range Rover we mostly use carplay / Siri and it’s fine. As far as the slow settings menu, you can create shortcuts to stuff like the audio settings and bypass that slow pop up menu. The boot up time is kind of slow, but by the time we load our kid in it’s up and running so I don’t really notice. The digital cluster is really well done - actually better than Audi’s in my opinion. You can use the steering wheel controls / cluster to scroll through tracks/ stations and avoid the infotainment. It’s such a pleasure to drive, so comfortable and so nice to be in that I totally get the appeal now. On the HSE the locking center diff is optional - it comes standard with a Torsten similar to a q7. Gets better fuel economy with less vibration and costs less. No one is taking these off road. And frankly it’s such a good on road vehicle that it doesn’t matter. People buy slow, outdated 4Runner TRD Pros as “urban assault vehicles” which seems like a true waste of money and a needless compromise in comfort. Keep it under 80k msrp, find a dealer willing to negotiate and you can get a lease that’s comparable to the competitors. The only real downside is that everyone else assumes you are a raging douche and treats you accordingly.

    The new Discovery looks so good. I came close to buying one but decided against it after getting a 3 days trial as the body rolls were just too annoying when I drove through a section of my neighbourhood. Finally bought a 2012 Range Rover Sports SDV6. Had it for 2 years and now just got a 2019 Diesel model. Decided to keep the 2012 unit too just as a backup.

    I rented this car today. Great ride, great visibility, good size for city driving, surprising maneuverable in tight situations, great audio system. Downsides: inline-6 model is very laggy, the infotainment is also very laggy. It takes almost 3 seconds for the turbos to spool up to full boost. At that point, you go like a bat out of hell. If they fix the turbo lag, I’d consider getting one. Otherwise, it’s a frustrating car. I’m sure the V8 is better.

Unlike the other luxury SUVs the Toyota should compete with this thing in terms of Off Road chops.

    Whilst one of the presenters may claim that the V8 is the ONLY sensible engine option for a Range Rover and here I do speak from experience. It is true that the Range Rover is by far the best at combining on- road comfort with genuine off-road capability. In V8 form(petrol/gasoline) the one place I found the "Ranger" would/could Not go, was past a petrol/Gas station...!! I do hope to have another one day, but a more realistic(consumption wise) diesel engined 3 ltr. "Sport"version this time...
