    A few words about the door handles inside of the car, because they act weird for a reason: In „normal“ cars the door lock is operated mechanically, so you are pulling on a lever, moving a wire, opening the lock and therefore opening the door. In the Taycan the door lock is operated (kind of) electrically, so you are pulling a lever which is pressing on a button, opening the lock and therefore the door. It‘s like an inverted soft close feature, the door is opening a little bit more than usual. But there is a mechanical fallback which can be activated in emergency cases. It has a few pros compared to normal doors but was a pain in the ass during development ;)

  • @krrk6337

    So it acted weird because electrical error or sth? And what exactly few pros you mentioned above? I honestly can't really think of one.

  • @tren133

    @tren133

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'm not a big fan of these electric door handles, both inside and out. It is only there to "look cool" but offers no real benefits, other than higher likelihood of failure down the line, which is potentially a safety issue, if say you got into an accident, then the door handle/locks seize up on you. At least the Porsche door handle will last a good few years before breaking. Tesla is also using electric door handles and because of their infamous poor panel fit, some of their electric door handles are DOA. The TFL youtube channel's new Model Y already had one of their door handles malfunction three times, and their car is only a couple of months old!

    Jan Peeters. My Model S has minor panel gap issues, but they do not affect how great the driving and ownership experience has been. A Toyota Corolla probably has better fit and finish, but it doesn’t work for everyone. A Model S is not for a 20-year old. A Model S or the X is better for middle-age business professional with a family.

    Nice and funny review as always! But two things I need to comment: range is much higher than EPA values. This has been proven in reality by a lot of KZreadrs and car tests. So maybe you could have mentioned this. Also Tesla doesn't have as high of a range they claim when driven normally. Second point is the regeneration thing. The most effective thing to do is to not regen at all, but to keep the car rolling as long as possible. That and also brake pedal feeling is the reason to not do the 1-pedal-drive. The car is supposed to behave like a combustion engine Porsche. Instead the car only Regens by using the brakes and this up to 265kW which is basically the max. charging speed of the car and this is much more than any Tesla can regen right now and somewhere around 0.4g deceleration which is pretty high and usually you never brake that hard during normal driving. So Porsche claims 90% or so of normal driving is done without mechanical brakes. Keep up the good work, your vids are very good quality both visually and content.

    @Real M I totally agree with you, and I am convinced that Elon Musk must have felt like you feel too, when 12 or 13 years ago realized how obsolete and precarious was our transportation system entirely based on fossil fuel that was not only slowly killing us all, but the very cause of many wars and the main financial source of world terrorism.Since 1900 there has been thousands car companies that went bankrupt, each and everyone of them with the desire to impose to the market their different creations. But Elon was not one of those, full of ambition, money lovers, and irresponsible. But a true Genius whose goal was only one and that was to render obsolete and unaffordable the grotesque contraption of the ICE with the insane peculiarity that half its pistons are continually working against the owner interests, belching toxic fumes, intense heat, incrementally burning up our limited fuel reserves, with all existing car manufacturers resembling more like a criminal cartel than responsible manufacturers putting the consumers and the world main interests above any other consideration. The Tesla cars noble birth from the onset become loved and appreciated from the lucky owners of its first models, so much so that it become a cult, but a voluntary cult, as every single Tesla voluntary purchase is, never letting any middle man in between them and the consumer, refusing to spend also a single cent on advertising. Elon is not out to kill the competition , and he could, but his main goal was and is to manufacture the best and most affordable ecological and sustainable car firm on the planet. He couldn't have survived if he had started building little cheap economic boxes, he knew he needed vast sums of money to achieve his dreams, so he started building and selling very expensive models first and subsequently offer cheaper and cheaper models, but all distinguished by their superior performance, low center of gravity and insanely dependability. To make sure that he would not hurt all the other manufacturers except for a survival instinct just only very few of his patents are secret, but most of them are open and free to be used by any other car manufacturer. It had been easy in fact it had become a true inferno for Elon with thousands enemies the world over not only shorting his stock, but creating a mountain of fake news in a desperate attempt to kill Tesla, because in the meantime it had become the number seller of the North America luxury segment, reducing the likes of Mercedes, Audi , BMW |Porsche and other to a secondary role. The German manufacturers responded with many would be "Tesla killers" EV models , but the greasy monkeys have so far all failed, not only to kill Tesla but helped Tesla to even increase its market dominance world wide. At the moments its reservation books are bulging with over a million reservation. They are opening up Giga factories in all continents. The world manufacturers sales because of Covid-10 are down 25 to 30% over last year numbers, while Tesla sales continued their unstoppable 30 to 40 % yearly sales increases. At his moment with Tesla new batteries promising a 56% drop in price, its announced new models in the works with a price tag of $25.000 its cyber truck, it semi trucks and new S model and Roadster in the works too, promising a spine jarring 0-60 in the time of 1.5 second, a top speed of 250MPH and an autonomy of 600 miles, is set surely for world dominance unless the competition starts taking Elon Musk very seriously and concentrate their efforts on EV quality production, which up to now have been only able to produce disappointing models, distinguished only by their exorbitant prices but very poor in quality and technical contents.

    @Real M Well, I totally agree with your thinking and that should be the ideal situation, which should please everyone. But it hasn't been so for Tesla, for the entire auto industry turned against them, while their financial friends short Tesla stock for years in a futile attempt to put Tesla out of business for good. Every single BEV that entered the market by the ICE competitors often were launched as "Tesla killers" as widely reported. Well, each and everyone of those "Tesla Killers" in the meantime were not widely welcome in the market, and at all levels were each clobbered by Tesla superiority under every single parameter of comparison. The only present problem Tesla had from day one has been its inability to meet the demand for its cars. I hate and I react to anyone who falsely accuse Tesla product inferiority, for it has none, absolutely none. While their mammoth competitors are trying to compete with a 22 century firm , with 21 century tools. I am very proudly a Tesla fun boy of 82 years of age, totally enthusiastic about our genius Elon, pulling off a royal flush on the entire auto industry, while they were conning people and governments with illegal products because unable to meet emission requirements. So keep your white flag, the car war is just started and unfortunately there are going to be many illustrious victims. Yes let the market do the selection, and we both know what their verdict will look like in a few years.

    @Real M Honestly I like the sensible way you express yourself, with obvious knowledge of the car industry, where I have spent 50 years of my working life. but your claim of Obama administration wise investments in new ideas has taken me by surprise. Perhaps we get our information filtered from different sources, but to my honest opinion, Obama achieved a few things in his 8 years tenure. first he got a Noble price for peace, for having spent the whole of his 8 years tenure, with at least one of two wars constantly active, and not a single day of peace for the American forces spread in various war situations especially in the Middle East. then he bailed out GM and Chrysler, before they went bankrupt, but without imposing any limitation or guide to invest in new Ideas, except perhaps for the failed GM BEV venture. Its the Trump business friendly guidance with the heavy tax cut that got the unemployment numbers of Obama 7% down to Trump 3 of last year before the Covid-19 hit. But Obama never invested a red cent in Tesla operations, even though Tesla benefited fro Obama hefty discount accorded originally to GM Volt BEV and the likes.One thing for sure should scare Tesla competitors. The mere fact that abolished car dealerships as well as eliminating advertising totally, sure gives them a good 25 to 30% cost advantage impossible to overcome by his competitors. The other scary aspect of it all is the fact that every single Tesla purchase is absolutely voluntary, it goes a long way to stress the fact that those Tesla owners have to be extremely satisfied of their car, or Tesla would never have achieved the incredible popularity gained. One thing is for sure, I am convinced that in the next 5 or 6 years we are going to see a few great name plates going belly up, so let us stay tuned.

    Great review, great choice of focus. Things that bother me in my Tesla 3 LR AWD: - turning a corner fast in the Tesla is a scary proposition that makes me miss my 30 year-old 944t. Too much weight into the corners and the auto braking going crazy on certain wheels makes me super nervous and also annoyed because there's no oversteer or shenanigans really. I wind up over-braking before almost all corners now. - little issues about trim, fit, paint - tesla have fixed a lot but it's still a C$75,000 car with these issues. - long term concerns about how this first-gen California-made car will hold up through Canadian winters, rust questions, subscription model questions, and truly awful customer service. - fitting enough stuff for family trips with our two kids. Looks like team Porsche nails all these areas except for luggage. I'll keep the Tesla because that said for the price it's a good choice, but once again, Porsche had created something a level above.

Engineering Explained has a video on his brand new Model 3, which had multiple paint issues, including large dirt particles which was BENEATH the clear coat. You can buff that out since the defect is not on top of the paint, but beneath it. What this shows is that Tesla is devoting its energy on the battery tech of the car, but was and continues to cut corners on the bread and butter nuts and bolts aspects of cars. Tesla has decided that making well screwed together cars is simply not a priority for them, and since many of their customers apparently give them a pass on this issue, I suspect this will continue to not be a priority for them.
