2020 Norco Sight: First Ride Review

Спорт

The brand new, redesigned Norco Sight pushes the boundary of bike geometry. It's about as slack and long as anything on the market, yet it rides more like a trail bike than the numbers might suggest. We tested the 2020 Sight on Zen on St. George, UT.

    We are pretty lucky in Utah. It's quite a bit easier to see the trail in real life vs GoPro. Although, one of the biggest complaints about the Zen trail is it can be a little difficult to navigate. After riding it a handful of times it gets easier.

    A good review here mate, thanks for that. I’m about to test this bike as well in a few days. I’m 5’10 and according to Norco I’m right in the middle of L. However, the reach is huge compared to my 2015 YT Capra (63mm longer) not to mention it’s a 29er. Do you think I should stick to L or I should ask the shop to provide me a M for a test as well?

  • @bikersedge

    @bikersedge

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey thanks! Haven't ridden the new Sentinel, but the Sight climbs better than the Wreckoning. On the DH I think the Sight will probably outperform the Wreckoning too with its newer, slacker geo.

    @@Bobandashleigh The Sight will be slacker and longer - generally that requires more input to get it around a corner. It can take a minute to adjust to riding with your weight a little further forward on the bike.

    Nice job, have been waiting for a detailed review of the Sight. How would you compare this to 'enduro' bikes like the Giant Reign 29, YT Capra 29, Commencal Meta AM 29 etc? The Sight has similar suspension travel, more aggressive geo, but you mention it rides a bit like a trail bike?

  • @bikersedge

    @bikersedge

    4 жыл бұрын

    The only one from your list I've ridden is the Reign 29. But, I rode the SX alloy one, so not really a fair comparison. Compared to all the "enduro" bikes I've ridden recently, mainly the SB150, Megatower, Hightower, SB130 LR SB165, the Sight rides the most like the Hightower and SB130 LR. Those are light-duty enduro bikes if that. They're probably more heavy-duty trail bikes than anything. The Sight feels sort of similar. It's not full blown enduro but it's not trail by any means - somewhere in the middle.

  • @bikersedge

    The Sight is more of an everyday trail bike compared to the SX. The Sx is crazy planted and quiet in chunky terrain. It's tougher to get off the ground though. The Sight is more nimble and engaging.

  • @Windband1

    Thank you for the good review. I have a couple of follow up questions. Did you have a chance to ride any tight and twisty stuff on the descent (at speed)? That stuff was all open and flowy (shape wise, I know it was really rocky). I live in the PNW and I need something that can be agile and relatively nimble at speed. Also, did you try and manual it at all, or wheelie it? These new really long wheelbase bikes make me nervous, as far as being able to man handle and move them, as in you can't! Thanks!!

  • @bikersedge

    @bikersedge

    4 жыл бұрын

    There were some pretty tight bits I cut out of the video because they’re so tight and techy they don’t make for good TV. The Sight felt fine there. During the whole ride I never felt like it was unmanageable. If I could manual or wheelie to save my life I would have tried more. The longer chainstays are noticeable. Combined with a long reach they take more effort to get the front of the bike off the ground. Compared to my personal SB130 LR the Sight seemed a little harder to get off the ground/manual or wheelie.

    How would you compare the sight to Ripmo v2 (climbing and descending)? Any more information on sizing as the Norco Sight seems to be on the longer “bigger” end. XL is at a 1301mm wheelbase 😳

  • @bikersedge

    @bikersedge

    3 жыл бұрын

    I've never really thought about the Ripmo and Sight compared to each other. I guess in my head the Sight is burlier than the Ripmo. It's much slacker and longer. Norco has put a ton of time and effort into their sizing with the Ride Aligned system. I would probably feel pretty confident trusting their size guide. It's always best, though, if you can demo one first. Or at least try one on for size at a shop.

  • @brandonarch2906
    @brandonarch29064 жыл бұрын

    At 6'2" Norco has you in an XL. How accurate do you feel their fixing is our is it more of a preference ie: large if you like a playful feel and XL if you like ploughing through. I'm 6'1" which press me right in the middle.

  • @bikersedge

    @bikersedge

    4 жыл бұрын

    I would like to try an XL but don’t have access to one. The L felt really good and if I were to buy one I’d probably go with that size. I know the wheelbase and reach numbers I like and the L was pretty much spot on. I think there’s a little wiggle room for you at 6’1” L if you prioritize playful and XL if you like stable and fast. I used to always go XL but now with some of these new bikes the L is longer in the reach and wheelbase than a lot of XLs from last year. I guess the best thing to do would be find a shop and go do some demos.
