2020 Nissan 370Z NISMO vs Toyota 86 TRD // When The Recipe Works

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

James and Thomas compare the "NEW" 2020 Nissan 370z Nismo with the 2019 Toyota 86 TRD. Both cars are rear wheel drive, front engine coupes and like Thomas, haven't really been touched in years. But that makes them pure enthusiast vehicles. Which is better? Which provides the most smiles? And are their styles still up to par with the modern day? Watch to find out!

    Smart way to go, then plan on an oil cooler, swaybar for the front only, tires, alignment, stereo upgrade, tune, hfc+cat back. Or, better yet, buy one that someone has already done all that and you'll be happy for about a year, then you'll be looking at turbo kits and then.... $20k later you'll have an insane vehicle! (fast intentions twin turbo, go look at some of those vids!).

    5 жыл бұрын

    Skvora Limited Media it’s not that Nissan needs to fix their 370Z. Matter of fact it’s not like any company needs to, but the reason why the 370Z is laughed at today is because there are tiny little turbo engines destroying it, while getting way better mpg’s. Me personally would love for Nissan to keep their Z platform N/A. But if they did that, they would need to make something in the 400hp+ range, but also gives it more in the 350+two range too, just to peak interest from buyers, as nobody who knows cars wants their $50k Z to be beaten by a $30k 2.0LT vehicle. They have to do that because that’s the way the sports car market has gone. That is hard to do, unless they opt for a V8 Z, which would go against the history of what a Z is about. So yeah, a turbo car is the only option really. They could use the Q Red Sport TT engine from Infiniti, which would be sick, but then they are banging on the doors of the GTR. So basically what I see is this was just poor planning on Nissans end ever since they introduced the R35 GTR, because they now have limited their Z line in what they can do with it.

    Great video! Have had my FR-S for 4 years now . Still makes me smile every time I drive it! Got a header tune and Borla exhaust right away and it really wakes this car up. Still could use more power though. Torn between spending the money to supercharge it or getting something different like the 2019 Miata.

    An f86 WILL NOT out handle a 370z let alone a NISMO. It might feel like it but that's because it's hard to feel like you're sliding in a car that is too weak to actually slide or break loose. The 86 is what you get your 18 year old as their first sports car so they don't kill themselves.

    Great production and I agree with most of what you guys mention in this video (especially the torque dip issue that the Toyobaru 86/BRZs have rather than its 'lack of power') BUT, unless you're talking about a used 370z vs a new Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ, i'm just not sre if its right to pitch the two together as their specs are incomparable. The 370z is more of a rival to the A90 2020 Toyota Supra and the 86/BRZ are more of a rival to the Mazda MX-5 with its power+weight figures. Nevertheless, good job. And unfortunately, its only in Japan where we can have the Toyota 86 GR, Toyota 86 14R-60 and Toyota 86 GRMN that all feature much better brakes and some feature much better aero and slight power upgrades.

    I doubt I agree that its necessary for the 86 to have a 6 cyl as it is suppose to be a successor to the Toyota AE86 which has a 4 cyl that were designed to be driven at 10/10ths around the narrow tight & twisty touge roads in Japan unlike the wide straight roads you get in N.America... Keiichi Tsuchiya (aka THE Drift King) proved the internet that you can have so much fun on the touge in a modest powered AE86 and the 'new' 86 whilst not spending too much on consumable costs. After all, if you want a 6cyl RWD Coupe Toyota, thats what the Supra is for is it not? As a response Nissan upgraded the fluid, but C&D tested and found that all it did was get the car an extra hard stop or two, and didn't adress the lack of brake ducting.

    I believe it's because if they go turbo with the new Z it'll be a 4 cylinder (with little HP improvement over the 6 cylinder NA. It's main focus is mostly to meet MPG regulations). I think it'll be a different story if the next Z is a 6 cylinder turbo or even a V8 NA like the E92 M3. I doubt many people would complain.

  • @INUMIMI28

    @INUMIMI28

    4 жыл бұрын

    Kevin Lau I doubt it’ll just be a 4 cylinder because Nissan already has VR30DDTT, and they’ll probably gonna use it. I think people are just getting sick of turbocharging everything. It’s no longer special, and we know the cons about turbo as much as we know pros now, like sounds, response, etc. Z34 is old, but old enough to be something unique and special, and people want to be that way probably.
