2020 Mitsubishi Sequence For Entering E-Brake Service Mode | Netfix Original: Repair Series | Ep 7

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Long made quick and complicated made easy. 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander rear parking brake service mode switch sequence shown here. Just follow this video in real time and you will successfully put your vehicle into service mode too. Or read below. This is how I did it:
1. Key On Engine Off
2. Foot depress brake pedal and hold entire time
3. Apply parking brake by pulling up on the parking brake switch located on the center console
4. Quickly toggle the parking brake switch from release to apply back and fourth until 2 brake lights start flashing on the dash, the message will read parking brake temporarily not available.
5. Finish that sequence by releasing the parking brake by pushing down on the parking brake switch
6. Quickly push the auto hold button 10 times exactly, located directly behind the parking brake switch
7. Push down on the parking brake switch1 time, releasing it once again.
8. The message center will now read Parking brake service required and will be yellow in color.
9.You will hear the rear parking brake motors turning and just wait till they stop turning.
10. Release the brake pedal
11. Turn off the ignition
12. Pop your hood
13. Pull off the air box inlet tube by removing the 2 push pins
14. Pull on the inlet tube where it attaches to the air box and squeeze the bottom and top while wiggling it up and down to release it out of the air box.
15. Disconnect the ground on the battery
16. NOTE: You do not need to turn back the calipers they will simply push back like any old front caliper.
17.SIMPLE to put vehicle back into normal service.
18. Hook up your battery negative
19. Intake inlet back on
20. Key on Engine off
21. Apply the parking brake, pulling up on the switch
22. You will hear you motors spinning again.
23. Lights will go off
24. Back in action you will be
DO NOT forget to properly burnish your new brake pads to your rotors. We don't want to ruin our brand new gear down there.
Good Luck I hope this has helped

You've explained this very well . no problem with my 2018 Outlander to fully go into the brake service mode. It does have a push button ignition so I turn it on (without engine running) and depress the brake pedal. I followed the procedure once. parking brake switch on , then switch the parking brake on and off several time until paking light flishing then i press the auto hold 10 times, then press the parking brake switch off once more. then you hear the motor working. thanks a lot. save a lot of money

Just did this sequence today on my daughter's 2018 Outlander with push button start. Surprisingly I got it to work on the first try. I saw a few people ask about the caliper piston as I had that question earlier as well. You will still need to manually retract the piston after removing the caliper. By putting it into this service mode you can retract it without ruining the motors for the electronic parking brake. I was nervous in the end if I'd wind up with blinking warning lights about the brake but I followed the end sequence as shown in the video and no error or warning messages. Thanks for the video!

Step 5 you don’t specify what you release and you don’t show it either, one can assume anything, “parking break” “foot break” plus this video is split you film this first part up to the point where you flip the e-brake up and down and then cut to the part where you say “release” my guess is that it was very difficult for yourself to do this as well. The only thing that will happen is you attempt to do this faster or multiple times is end up with a dead battery, hope this helps anyone can’t perform this method.

I Changed my break pads today by using a 9v battery trick (Mitsubishi Outlander 2019 SEL AWD). NO trouble codes, NO PARK BRAKE DISABLED warning. I did not rewind the piston all the way in. Rewind the motor to get enough space. . leaver on P position. . Release EPB . Disconnect the negative side of the battery. . Disconnect the plug on top of the brake caliper. . reverse the caliper piston by using a 9v battery ( DO NOT rewind the piston/motor all the way in). . insert new pads . Reassemble the unit . Reconnect the plug on top of the brake caliper . Reconnect battery. . turn on the car and apply EPB *Attempt this method at your own risk*, *You can't treat these as professional advice* , * I am not a mechanic or expert*.

I have done the rear brakes twice on my Mitsu now because the OEM brakes pads blow and only last about 20k. Hopefully the Bendex work better from Rock Auto. This method does work but I don't know how exactly. KEY on, hold brake pedal, APPLY parking brake, toggle PB switch back and forth quick until you get the red error message, then you hit auto hold 10x...this is where I get hung up, why? Nothing beeps changes nor do you get a new message. I hit that button a 1000x times to see if it ever did anything different and it did not. I never heard the motor unwind themselves either. So back to the method, KEY on, hold brake pedal, APPLY parking brake, toggle PB switch back and forth quick until you get the red error message, then you hit auto hold at least 10x and then run up and disconnect the battery before it goes out of safety mode ( have the battery terminal ready to just pull off). I then did a pad and rotor R&R which required me to use a FRESH 9V battery to drive in the pistons in via the motor. Go back, reconnect neg batt terminal and then I just hit the set the PB button and let it drive in until it stopped and it seemed to work and I didn't have to ask my friend to clear any codes.

Sounds chaotic haha. Must have been an issue with when you stopped toggling the parking brake switch and started pushing auto hold button. That’s just my guess, it needs to start and finish on the right stroke if you know what I mean. Happy you got them replaced with no major issues. 👍🏽

hope someone can answer this as i know this is an old post.. but after you replace the pads, do you pump the breaks to push the piston back out BEFORE you reset the parking break or do you simply put the new pads on and reassemble everything and pul the parking lever to get it back to normal operating mode?

@@narranarasaiah I tried multiple times and it did not work for me also. What I did was disconnect the battery terminals just in case, then unplugged the wire that’s connected to the caliper. I then used 2 scrap pieces of wire and connected one end to a 9V battery and the other end to the caliper. If you touch the ends of the caliper plugin with the battery wires the piston should open. If you reverse the wires it should close.

It does have a push button ignition so I turn it on (without engine running) and depress the brake pedal. I followed the procedure several times. I get to the point where it says "parking brake temporarily not available", release the parking brake switch, press the auto hold 10 times, then press the parking brake switch once more. I've not been able to get to the screen where it says "Parking brake service required". Very frustrating. Any tips to what I may be missing? I started wondering if the dealership somehow "locked" this function out so I'm not able to perform Maintenance myself. **UPDATE** Finally got it working. How do you turn the parking brake service off?

The answer might be a little late but in my experience today, is that I drove my Outlander a couple of blocks while testing the brake pedal that felt spongy at first after changing the rear pads. I pressed the pedal at least 20 times in drive and while backing up into my garage and that did it. When I went to put the parking brake that was still flashing, I pulled the button and heard the motors activating and going into position and just like that the Brake light indicator in the dash and the button stopped flashing and everything went back to normal. Basically, drive the car after changing the brake pads. No need for a dealership unless you damaged something while retracting the pistons.

DO NOT DO THIS, what they don’t tell you is you can’t get out of service mode without going to the dealership or some other shop to use a computer to get you out. I did this and now my car is stuck in this mode and won’t stop beeping. Everything works fine but needs a specific computer to get this code removed and my $350 scan tool won’t work.
