I bought a work truck version of this truck the other day. I was driving a 2005 Silverado 2500hd gas truck and there is no comparison. You don't even know you are towing anything. You have to look in the mirror to make sure you did hook up to your trailer lol. I got 360,000 miles out of my 05 so I'm not complaining. I just had no idea it would be like this. They are very nice trucks no matter what version you get.

I have a '15 Ram 2500 with the Cummins. I recently test drove a black '20 Chevrolet 2500 with the Duramax. I must say I was very impressed with the ride quality and the always available torque. The transmission is tuned very well to keep that 6.6 in the sweet spot no matter what situation you are in. The truck felt very athletic, whereas my Ram is more less an offensive lineman that Chevy is a wide receiver!

Haha, love your football analogy! Yea I hate the dead pedal feeling in my RAM that was not there in the Chevy. I’m hoping to tow a trailer with a Chevy in the future and really looking forward to driving a gas! The independent suspension really does outshine the solid front on the RAM but I still love my Cummins! Maybe one day I will get a truck from GM to test for a camping trip!

I'm wondering if the new "Allison" 10 speed in the 2020 will be a boom or bust. From what I've heard the Allison 1000 6 speed (last year used 2019) was also the last one actually made my Allison whereas the new 10 speed is actually made in GM facilities basically licensing the Allison name. I guess time will tell.

Forget the Chevy 2020 2500HD gas version for towing!, they dropped 4.10 gear option which has been around since the beginning of time. 2019 and earlier versions offered 4.10 rear gear ratios. Here is the difference in performance in max trailer weights for 2019 and older crew cab short bed models with 4.10 was 14200#, and 3.73 were 9700#. It would have been ok if they changed the transmission ratios but they didnt on the gas version! From 14200# to 9700# is a huge difference, saying you make up for it by increasing the engine torque wont make up for it on the hills. You need the extra gear ratio on the hills because the RPMs will drop too much when it shifts. Also the 3.73 will put more stress on the clutches that engage when the transmission shifts. I love my 2012 2500HD with gas, but the gears on the hills are barely acceptable and I cant afford to make them worse. Time to go to Ford that offers 4.30 gear ratios!

Advertised payload is the max available for the model. Typically as a single cab, 2wd, standard bed. As you add weight to the vehicle (crew cab, optional packages, diesel engine vs gas etc) you reduce available payload due to the weight of the add-ons. Remember that every lb you add also takes away from payload (hitch weight, passengers, cargo, gear, and so on). I hope this helps explain a little better for you.

Wow really good question and you gave me an idea for another video but I would choose a RAM MegaCab due to the floor space and the fact that the rear seats recline a lot, plus has plenty of storage. I think on those long trips keeping the kids as comfortable as possible is key to a great trip. One day I will have to use my kids for a video and see how much space is in the back of each seat 👍🏾. My second choice would be a Ford because they have plenty of space in the rear plus if you need a longbed, the RAM crew cab is extremely tight so Ford, Chevy, then RAM if you need a 8 foot bed.

Somehow became un-subscribed! Glad I found that! I went from my 14 Ram Dually/LB/Crew Tradesman to the 2020 used (7000 MILE) LTZ, crew/long/dually last September. HOLY SH%%! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Now, the ram WAS only the Tradesman compared but the ride and comfort difference is amazing! The power? I'll get to that part. I had the ram deleted with 4" straight pipe turbo back on it. Also had the 6 speed Aisen trani. The power because of the tune I did on it was extreme giving me an additional 75 horse giving me 75MPH towing our 16,000 pounds of 5th wheel on an incline on-ramp from starting from a stop to the top of the roadway. In the Chevy (till the warranty is expired. Then I'll delete it too) I'm doing 40-45 by the time I reach the roadway. Once it reaches the "flat land" part it moves out just fine though. Now, the transmission difference between this 10 speed and the Aisen 6 or even the old school Allison 6 speed is a bit of a slight disappointment while towing in only one way.... The exhaust brake on the 6 speeds is much more aggressive than this 10 speed, even if using the manual downshifting. It works. Just doesn't quite slow me down like the 6 speed Allison or the Aisen. Fuel mileage on the deleted Ram towing this trailer was around 14mpg, total average according to the onboard computer. This crap on the Chevy drops me down to 8-10, 10 on a good day. This is because of the Delete though. I was getting 14 before the delete and empty load on long stretches of roadway type of driving on the Ram. The Chevy, while empty is doing around 20MPG or better when empty, depending on my right foot's actions. Just another awesome video sir! I'm glad I found out I was (somehow) unsubscribed!

The trani is not the reason your Ram's exhaust break is better, it's because of the Cummins engine. If Ford or Ram used a Cummins w/ the 10 speed, Ram could kiss their truck sales goodbye.

There are a few videos out there from the GM engineers that explain it and it seems like it makes sense since they lengthen the frame. It’s just no one else has done it so it does seem odd. But they know people want the look of a short bed and not have to worry about hitting. This is what I’ll be getting soon enough. Want a long bed though so I can put a external fuel tank or tool Box and still load a four wheeler in the back.
