    I have had all 3, love them all for diff reasons. What I notice on my 20 F250 with the stock bed cover is you can lock it in any place and the drain tubes go out the front wall.... this way I can slide plywood all the way in without worrying about kinking the tubes. Keep up the great reviews

    Great video...my perfect truck would be this GMC with the 6.7 Cummins + Allison 10 spd. I respect the Duramax engine (and even the PowerStroke), but there's just something about the inherent sound and performance of those inline 6 cylinder Cummins diesels that dig. Keep up the great work!

    Just did a 8,000 mile RV trip to western Canada and USA. The most popular truck by far in all the RV parks was the new GM diesels. It used to be Ford and Dodge but not anymore. In talking to the owners, they all loved the power of the Duramax and the smoothness of the 10 speed Allison. GM seems to have hit a home run with these HD trucks.

    I’ve had diesels from all 3. Cummins exhaust brake is night and day better than the gm and ford. For me the exhaust brake is a huge advantage when towing heavy through the Rockies. From a safety standpoint I would choose the Cummins all day. Power wise they are all very powerful setups and will each do the job in that department.

    We switched from 2009 F-250 to a Chevy 2022 Chevy dually and love it! What a difference! It pulls like a dream. Going from a short box to a long box it smoother even unloaded. When GM came out with the steps I made fun of how ugly it made it and now I don’t know why others do not have them. They are very useful! Fuel mileage is only about 8 mpg more on average running at around 78 mph on cruise. But if you run slower speeds your mpg will be way more.

We had a bad experience with our hometown Ford dealership so between that and the 6.4 exhausted me on keeping up with it so I would not end up on the road I will not buy another. I’ve owned (2) 5.9 Cummins six speed, (1) Powerstroke and now a Duramax in this order. As for new stuff these days, they are all pretty much the same. Built American tough with Foreigners stuff. When I wrote this I was comparing the Duramax to our Powerstroke pulling our 7,500 pound travel trailer. But since then our Duramax is now a hotshot truck and I have a Cat Scale ticket that I ran a load at 38,400 pounds and the Duramax didn’t break a sweat! I have a 2012 3500hd with the duramax. When I use the exhaust brake in tow mode all i have to do is give it a little bit of brake to get the exhaust brake to engage. As soon as the exhaust brake kicks in it stops quickly. Just letting off the gas will let it coast until it get to 40-45 mph then the exhaust brake kicks in and slows it down fast. Just tapping the brake at 70 mph isn't going to do anything, you have to give it a constant petal. It doesn't need to me much, just enough to let the computer know you need to slow down now not just coast. I think if you had time to get use to the truck, you would want any other.

    @@JB_WhoWork I agree the Rams have a better exhaust brake. GM wants you to use cruise and then also really get on the brakes to get the truck to downshift. You do that and they will lose speed even on an 8% grade. Low speed maneuvering though you definitely have to get on brakes more. I think that’s got as much to do with engine design as anything else.

    GMs are nice riding trucks and have fantastic interiors no question. Definitely smoother than the ford and the rams. However the big killer for me on the ford and the GMs is that poor excuse for an exhaust brake. It really is a big deal towing heavy through the Rockies. There is a reason why the majority of the hotshoters drive the ram. Although there are some things I admire on the gm, I won’t give up the exhaust brake, and how much easier the Cummins is to work on. Get gm to fix that exhaust brake and I would prolly come back to one.

    Good video. Your 100% correct, the GM exhaust brake is nothing and barley aids the truck in stoping. Ram hands down is #1. I drove all 4 HD trucks (4th being TitanXD) I settled on my 2021 Ram High Output dually and it WILL STOP my 14,000k load on exhaust and engine brake by itself.. people who never been behind the wheel of a Ram, don’t know what they are missing. And I honestly would take my Aisin tranny over the Alison too. I agree the Alison shifts better but I know the Aisin reason for hard shifts is saving the converter. Both good, but just my preference now. You have fun with the Fam brother..

    I have the 2020 duramax 2500 and love it. I was extremely surprised that they let you tow with a truck ( dealer or rental) Most do not allow that at all. I know I pull trailers all the time as a contractor and when truck is in for anything it is a huge problem for me to deal with. Enterprise has a truck branch in the next state and they will let you tow with them.

    You having a dodge truck you may not understand how to set the downhill speed hold. You have to use the large button on the right side opposite the exhaust brake switch. Two separate operations on the GMC you can use the exhaust brake to help normal braking or the downhill speed hold when driving on long steep downhill roads.

    The reasons commercial companies buy trucks is far diffrent then why people who use them for personal use. One of the big driving decisions on buying a truck is service centers. When it comes to rams and the Cummins there is no equal in terms of service centers. Every ram dealer can work on cummins, every cummins dealer can work on a cummins, every heavy duty truck dealer is also a cummins dealer. Meaning you can get parts and service almost anywhere which is why the ram trucks are so common in commercial applications.

Both are under 10,000 lbs, Im thinking either are great and will do a super job but was looking for some advice from someone with more experience. I do like the simplicity of the Cummins, but I like the 10 speed on the GMC ??? Thank you.

  • @JB_WhoWork

    @JB_WhoWork

    I really like the air suspension on the RAM and think that it would make it easier to hook up and go while providing a great ride unloaded. The GMC will most likely be a little cheaper option for option and like you said, higher gearing out back with that 10 speed is fantastic. You will get more payload with the GMC so depending on what you plan on carrying in the truck, the GMC may be the better option with the diesel
