I own a R1200RT and really appreciated your commentary on your commute. I live in Scottsdale, AZ and enjoy riding into downtown Phoenix but it is nothing like Manhattan. I bought a 2018 art new in Sept 18, just before the 1250 was released. My bike has everything you just mentioned on the 1250 including an ambient temp readout. It’s a great bike and agree with all your comments re the RT. I only had one issue which was the seat which was really uncomfortable on a long ride. I purchased the Wunderlich rider and passenger seat and it made all the difference for me. It’s not the bike I’m sure as I seem to have to swap the seats on all my bikes just to get a comfiest bum. Last year at the UK Bike show one of the reps on the BMW stand told me that a TFT was going to be fitted to the 2020 models but obviously that’s not happened yet. I’ve heard a lot of negative stuff from BMW riders with this display so perhaps the RT will be keeping its gages. Thanks again for a great vid. All the best and ride safe.

If you are filtering, if the mirrors fit through, so will the bike. Once you get used to it, it’s fine; and that’s riding in the UK; narrower roads here.

Henry Hudson Pkwy to the West Side Highway, I know it all too well. LOL I would definitely take off the panniers if I was riding into Manhattan. I used to use the backpack all the time. I used to lane split a lot in California with my 2006 R1200RT. I also had a 2016 FZ-09 (MT-09) that was less wide but felt also less safe (no fairings, side bags). The problem is rather filtering in the inner city in stopped traffic where 2-3 inches matter. On the highway, I wouldn't squeeze through such tight spaces anyways, it can wait. Interestingly, the RT got wider with every generation while the GS got narrower over time. With the current generation, the RT is 1.5 inches wider than the GS.

Fantastic review peppered with good humour. :-) I ride the 2019 model. I think only the paint options changed? Its a cracking bike. Heavy to get on & stand up but the weight just falls away when the wheels move. I love the classic dials. The TFT isn't really needed if you have the satnav. There are pages on that which can be accessed & provide all the information anyone would ever need on their bike. You just need to accept the warning while riding to access the data. I tend to ride in dynamic mode mostly & it is fast. The power is smooth but instant. Certainly fast enough for me anyway! My daughter (mid age teen) comes with me now and then. Only when stopping the bike at junctions am I reminded she is on the back. I have the top box so take the side boxes off of general daily use.Filtering is a tad easier but it's still a wide front to contend with. I love it. I've been doing 250km day trips on it in the Andalucian mountains of Southern Spain & when I get home, I'm fresh enough to do it all over again. Thanks for the review.

Very nice review. I haven't lived in the city in a long time. But I can see that a big bike like that would be a pain in the ass maneuvering in NYC. I live upstate (soon to move to Greenville SC) and I just retired and I'm married now. So looking for a bike that would be good for two up riding. This bike looks like it might fit the bill. The 2021s just came out with even more tech. I think this bike has made my list. Thanks for the ride!!! ✌✌

Nice vids, bro. Your ride in the city convinced me that RT is not suitable for daily city traffic. It really helped me to decide whether to get myself an RT or GS. Since I’ll be using the bike mostly for weekend out-of-town leisure ride plus occasional outstation business trip, RT would be the best choice. Thanks a lot.

A nice looking bike. It’s been around for many years with a large fan base and revered for it’s sport handling abilities. Agree on the mirror position. That could get a refresh in the next iteration. With that BMW could add their awesome TFT screen and carry that to their K1600 models as well. BMW styles are unique and that’s a good thing. For note, nothing compares to the GSA HP. Covers all bases. Nice job Anthony.

Hey Anthony. I know this is an older video, but I traded my '14 RT for that exact bike, a 2020 gold RT with the premium package. It's in beautiful condition. Almost like new, only 6.5k miles. So this video was perfect for me. I ride mostly upstate where I have a cabin near the Hawks Nest area. I am also not a huge fan of the big TFT. I think the Nav VI with the analogue dials is a great combo. And hey, I live in upper Manhattan. I bought my '14 from you guys. I'm looking forward to your new location. If you're still working there? Thanks again for the great video!

Just a small reason I didn't wait for the 2021 upgrade, that useless TFT dash. What ever you do DON'T WEAR POLORISED sun glasses. You won't see the dash without moving your head to align the light waves. This is a problem I don't believe has been considered by bike manufacturers.

I have a 2020 RR that I both ride on the street and do track days, but on some weekends I ride with a group of BMW riders on RTs and GSs. Once the rides get over 175 miles, well, it stops being fun. They seem to hold their own just fine on the curves so I'm thinking of adding an RT to my garage. I demo rode one last week and it seems like I fine compromise between a sport bike and a tourer. A 1600 GT or a Gold Wing is too much, but the RT is just right. Thanks for the ride and helping me with my decision, not to mention seeing again the NYC streets of my misbehaving teenage years. I am subscribed.

Thank you for your feedback John, glad I could take you down memory lane! I think the RT is an excellent consideration if you already have the king of sport bikes, the RR. Though, if you aren't fully committed to picking up a touring bike, check out the R1250R/RS. I'll be making a video on them soon, and trust me they are a blast to ride. Thanks for watching.

@@supersportsanthony Thanks Anthony for your reply. As it happens, I have already ridden both the R1250 R and RS and you're right, they are a blast to ride, but I feel they both are too much like tamer versions of my RR. If I assume the RR and a 1600GT are on opposite ends of the road spectrum, I'm shooting for something closer to a tourer than a sport bike. Another reason I'm leaning towards an RT is my hope to get my wife in the passenger seat on a regular basis so we can share some motorcycle experiences together. Soon.

AAAAGH why don't commentators do their homework. I own a 2020 RT but I researched the bike for nearly a year before pulling the trigger. So 10 000 km later here's my 10 cent. 1. The cubby hole on the right was not designed to house a phone only an iPad. 2. The gear change indicator is intelligent in that it is based on revs, lean angle and throttle position. The hill start control works downhill as well as up. 3. Lose the cases and it will canyon carve easily. Overall the RT is superior to the competition. And BMW have the best customer service in South Africa.

My 2020 RT with Hayes brakes leak like a sieve, even after being recalled and new calipers were installed. The 2021 looks like BMW branded Hayes brakes again. You've been warned!!! My 3 videos of the leaking brakes. @ @ @
