    Great vids and love the humor added in, been binging on them. Quick question: looking at picking up an atv to ride with my bro in law, love the looks of the outlanders but concerned about reliability as I don’t have much experience with or working on these. Would u recommend the kodiak/grizzly 700 or outlander 570?

  • @DirtObseXXion

    @DirtObseXXion

    3 жыл бұрын

    I personally like the Grizzly, I think it's the most comfortable, best handling, and very reliable.. I will say that the Outlanders are great though, we haven't had any reliability issues with them and the Outlander 570 is probably more powerful than the Grizzly 700.. Outlanders get a worse reputation for things like the differentials going bad but a lot of times guys are putting ridiculously heavy tires on them and hucking em into huge mud holes..

    Im a kawasaki guy since the 02 prairie and have an 05 brute to this day with a 1020cc big bore kit from big kevs. It was built back in 09 from stock and upgraded shocks an 30"XXL mudlites. Goes pretty much anywhere. I also have two teryxs one on 40s am one built. Wife has a 18 brute that im not allowed to touch. Lol. You are right a couople upgrades and its good. My brother inlaw buys a new grizzly every year after he puts 5000 or more miles on it then sells them to his friends. The only grizzlies in the group are his old ones. One of the older 660s has 28000 miles on original engine. Never been apart and one belt an a bushing kit is all that's been done to it. Maintenance is key an it'll run forever. Just traded a Sportster for a 2012 brute force 750 with 1,000 miles on it. It has over $7k worth of accessories on it, including a relocated radiator, a high lifter suspension and body lift, snorkels, a tuner, and 29.5" outlaw wheels and tires. I got a great deal on this thing because the guy said something was wrong with it and it wasn't running right. I changed the spark plugs and everything is good to go. I barely beat my buddies 2021 can-am commander 1,000. I love how light it is, along with the amount of power.

For now, I think the Grizz is king of the heap in this class! As far as the Honda, I think the Rubicon 500 is a WAY better wheeler than the Rincon 680! Even without the bigger engine! Got a 15 Brute, 3100 miles, the only things I’ve thrown at it is a rear seal, and an EPS motor. It tows a lot, I’d say 75% of its life it’s pulling something. Not a bad quad. I’d have to agree though, it is dated and the suspension can be unforgiving when unloaded.

    Couldn't agree more! That's really the main point I was trying to get across too.. Kawasaki could easily do it with stuff they are already using, but they put zero effort into the Brute from year to year... They don't even make commercials or anything.. I know we've talked about it before but I still think Kawasaki is in the best position to break the 750 barrier.. Unfortunately they'd be the last to do it...

    Great Japanese Quad comparison. I totally agree and would add a few things about the cons of the Rincon. Besides being gutless, it has terrible ground clearance, has a high center of gravity and is narrow. It's a piss poor handling machine and is dangerous as far as I'm concerned. You could be driving on a straight flat trail and hit a moderate whoop and end up in the trees if you're not careful. If you ride a Sportsman with one hand over the same place it will continue straight as an arrow like nothing ever happened. It may be reliable but if you like to drive fast at all, the Rincon is at the bottom of the heap. Another thing I noticed about the Rincon is that if you are riding down a steep decline the steering gets very heavy almost to the point of being unmanageable. I like the Grizzly, it's the most Sportsman like of the bunch, but needs a bigger motor. I would consider buying one if it had a 900+ V-twin.

    I had an 08 grizzly and loved it. Looking to get back into ATV world. Ive narrowed it down to grizzly or King Quad 750. Would love another Grizzly but the King Quad price is 2 to 3 grand less than Grizzly with the same features....diff lock, CVT, high/low range, Independent suspension etc.... and I do like that dual overhead cam in the King Quad. it sounds and runs bad ass. Having a hard time making that final decision. We shall see

    Dirt Obsexxion I got a couple questions about the sportsman! What would happen if your in standard mode and you accidental switched it into work? • @DirtObseXXion

    @DirtObseXXion

    5 жыл бұрын

    I've never accidentally hit the button but I'd wager a guess that it would act just like coming off the throttle since it's really just an input telling the machine less fuel... No issue with the drive by wire, actually like it because the throttle resistance is perfect.. As far as wrong with it, you know I had the clutch issue that was fixed under warranty... The 19s are clutched differently.. I don't like that the EPS isn't speed sensitive, it's too much at high speed.. The engine braking comes on too strong, and I prefer independent front and rear lever actuated brakes.. I'm working on a full review with everything I like and dislike. But that's pretty much all the dislikes... Drive modes and drive by wire are both wins IMO.

    I don't see much to argue with you about, pretty much spot-on. I had a 16 grizzly and wasn't real impressed with it. Probably one of the worst purchases I've ever made. It had a terrible turning radius, it seemed like there was 200 lb on the back rack, while the power steering was nice I thought the Turning sucked. The takeoff power was also very disappointing, if I end up getting another four-wheel drive quad it'll most likely be the Brute Force. I'm a sucker for power and the thrill of it. Not interested in going back in there Can-Am and not sure I'd go for a Polaris although I think they're liability has come a long ways. One thing about the new Grizzly though is the fact that they went back to the 686, I had a built Raptor with that motor that dynoed 70 horsepower and 50 torque. For a high performance machines it was pretty dang reliable. Just doing a few engine mods that 686 in the grizzly will probably make it a pretty sweet machine.

Everyone who’s ridden a brute knows it’s the most fun quad they’ve ever ridden. Kawasaki barely puts any effort into this quad, if they did it would blow the others away. I'm home on a rainy day and I've been watching ATV reviews - mostly yours. I have few ideas to throw out there if you don't mind: A comparison of Japanese machines against North American ones. Nobody does that. Sort it by price so whiners won't complain that you compared a 1000 Sportsman against a 700 Grizzly. Compare off road ability, ground clearance, handling etc. I know I'm not the only that would absolutely love that. It might be difficult to get access to all those machines. Also, I'd love to see an in depth comparison of Visco Lok vs True AWD in many specific challenges. Pros and Cons of their different setups for mudding, crawling over rocks or stumps, and slippery conditions like snow. You guys already have both machines so it would be easy to do a comparison test.

    I'm not a fan of the Rincon 680 because of the 3 speed transmission and fixed shocks that can't be adjusted.. The Scrambler XP1000 isn't available anymore so if you want a Scrambler it's either the 850 or the 55"wide S.. I personally prefer the ergonomics of the Sportsman over the Outlander, but that's just personal preference.. I think the Outlander is going to last longer issue free, but you will have to change out the brake pads very early on (like 200 miles) and there's heat issue from the exhaust that you'll have to deal with.. The Scrambler 850 is the same as the Sportsman 850, just different plastics so that's up to you.. if you're primarily trail riding, I'd say stick with the 850 and spend the money you save on some upgrades.. Sit on the Sportsman and Outlander to see what feels better.. If you go Sportsman, I'd add som cecco frame braces, pinion plate, and a clutch kit to help wake it up a little.. The Outlander will need an optimizer to add some fuel to the map which will help cool it down.. Hope that helps!!!

    I sincerely believe that none of the Japanese manufacturers will be coming out with a big bore.. I don't think the market is big enough to support it to be honest. A Powersports company in general needs to project to sell 10-15k units a year to make R&D and production profitable. Only about 200k ATVs are sold in the US annually which is by far the biggest market.. Just taking the top 7, which excludes fairly big brands like CFMOTO and Kymco.. There would only be about 28k per manufacturer.. And that's being generous because Polaris holds a big chunk of that market and sell by far more 570s than anything.. Anyway.. if each company had 5 models they'd only be selling on average around 5k per year each.. Polaris has even said that the big bores are a small chunk of the market for them.. I think they're all skiddish after what happened with sport quads in the 2010s.. Not enough demand to support 8 major players, so they all just stopped production.. That's something large companies don't want to have to explain to investors and shareholders. Fortunately though.. The Grizzly is pretty sweet as is..

    @@DirtObseXXion My whole ordeal with that line of thinking is... Why would anyone ever create anything new? How do you know the demand isn't there, if the product isn't there? I'm sorry, but I would bet my next couple paychecks, that if Yamaha came out and introduced an 850 Vtwin Grizzly (or bigger) with all the bells and whistles as the other top of the line quads, that it would sell pretty well. I truly believe that. There's enough pent up demand from people who want that kind of ATV from these Japanese brands. It's robbing the people of these machines and it's robbing these companies from their ingenuity. No one wins in these scenarios. I understand facts, figures, and probabilities and most people don't want these insane big bores. But because Yamaha basically hasn't done shit since 2007, Honda since 2003, Kawasaki since 2005, Suzuki since over a decade, and more, we're talking about well over more than a decade ago! I refuse to believe that they wouldn't sell well enough to warrant the R&D. But to say they aren't making them because they wouldn't sell enough is ludicrous IMO. You can't say that because THEY DON'T EXIST. It's a cop out. There's my rant lol.

    @@jonsatvoutdoorchannel6686 You're thinking from an enthusiast perspective and not a business perspective. It's not just people who say they want a big bore, it's the people who can actually afford a 15k machine, because that's absolutely the price point they'd be pushing.. At that price you're competing with SXSs too. It's not ludacris to say the market isn't there because its not.. If Yamaha (as an example) were to enter the big bore game, they're competing with two companies that already sell more ATVs than they do.. There's no guarantee that Yamaha would sell 10k Grizzly 850s just because a handful of people say they'd go buy one immediately.. And even if that first wave of people did get them and it was 10k people.. That means nothing for the following year or the year after that.. It would be pandering to enthusiasts which would certainly be awesome, but is definitely not a viable business model.. And besides, the Grizzly is damn near perfect as a big single 700.. 4x as many people buy on the 500 class vs the 1000 class.. So the market truly isn't there.. I wish it was, I hope it comes back around.. That's why I make ATV videos.. I want people to be excited about them and help push the market forward..

    Dirt ObseXXion i hear you and I understand the numbers. For the record, I bought my 850SP for $8700 OTD. Granted it was an end of the year model but it has all the bells and whistles. I understand its MSRP is like $10,900 but still to say if Yamaha or one of these other manufacturers would be making a quad approaching 15k is wayyy too much IMO. The target should be around 12k or less. That’s quite a bit of difference. But anyways, my response to what you’re saying is just a different perspective. I agree with you more than myself on this topic but I’m trying to show the other side of the coin. Hopefully, and eventually, one of these 4 major brands WILL come out with something bigger. It’ll happen. Why not be the first one to do it? If you’re the ONLY Japanese brand to offer an 850 VTwin for under 12k which is quite a bit less than the 1000’s, you stand out. You have that whole market to yourself. I just think one of them eventually needs to grow a pair. You use the what if scenario a lot saying what if they make it and they don’t meet demand after the enthusiasts first wave goes by, BUT WHAT IF it’s a big hit?! What if they knock it out of the park? What if it actually sells really well? I wish they’d challenge themselves and adopt that line of thinking vs this ‘safe’ route. Just my 2 cents.

    My friend owns Nick's cat house. Lots blow up. The older 650s were really bad and the 750s also blow up. I know a few guys who own them. If they ride fast for any length of time the crankcase oil finds it's way into the air box then is sucked through the engine. Keep a close eye on oil level and clean the air filter after every ride or they will start to smoke then lose compression.

    Brute Force all the way. It's the only one on this list that's fun to ride. It also has the most potential to mod, easiest to tune, easiest to work on, best locker, best rear brake, and best racks. It's what you buy when you want the grin factor from the throttle lever, without the reliability issues of Polaris, or the constant maintenance of Can Am. Yes, the Brute needs a facelift and some new bells and whistles. Some company backing and proactive advertising would also be nice. But there is something to be said about sticking with what works from year to year, and ironing out all the wrinkles. All the Japanese companies seem to take that approach.
