As a Guzzi owner I think the paint scheme is "odd" there are other options such as matte grey and matte blue that are more standard. Now in general Guzzis are different so until you actually get on and ride one it's hard to understand why we folks love em so much!!! Great review keep em coming...

As a Guzzi owner, you should've known that this particular paint scheme is an hommage to the 1985 V65TT that participated in Paris-Dakar ;-) That said, I do agree that the bike looks a bit better in standard colours, but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder of course. Those bikes also come as standard on more road-oriented rubber. Personally, I quite like the looks of this V85. @TheMissendenFlyer should definitely try the V7 III. That bike is in a way the Porsche 911 amongst bikes. Been around for over 50 years and has slowly evolved and become better with age. Just like the V85, it looks underpowered on paper, but in reality it's got plenty of go, right in the usable rev-range. Feels way more powerful than the specs make you believe. Looking forward to a review :)

Great review. Love Guzzi's... refreshing to have a non conforming bike with bags of character and great build quality. Every Guzzi i have ever ridden always made me smile and installed that special feeling. I think this bike is priced well for such a capable and do it all machine. Being a twin with low down grunt only ticks another big box. I think Moto Guzzi have a winner here 👍

Thanks for posting. It vibrates, it shakes, it bakes, all metal, air cooled, clunky shifter wow a true retro! I have always had a soft spot for the Guzzis. Surprising they can keep up with Euro standards with an air cooled engine. Love the color scheme, the head lights. Great video.

Remember when everyone thought the R80 G/S looked weird, especially the Paris Dakar version? Guzzi gearboxes tend to loosen up after a while, and the slowish steering makes them really stable. Thanks for another great review. 👍

I've been waiting patiently for this one, and am delighted that you appeared pleasantly surprised by the ride! I've now tested a couple and found the handlebars almost too wide for London congestion, but loved how easily the cruise control works. I also ventured along a wooded trail, and found the turning circle WAY better than I am used to on my Tracer. Not to put a damper on things but there is a fair buzz on Guzzi forums about oil being sprayed out of that rear shaft. Might only be affecting 10% and it is believed to result from over filling the oil there, but oil and rear tyres are never a good combo. The UK dealer hadn't heard of this a few months back so must be rare.

Wow, you ride a CRF250 for work, you must have a great job. It's a shame that you have been let down by the dealership. Guzzis are about the last bike you can maintain yourself, so I know that you shouldn't have to, be you could just order stuff online and take the maintainance into your own hands, this will give you a closer bond with the bike.

Rode an 850 T3 years ago attached to a Squire adult and child sidecar. Worked really well and the T3 had 1 front disc linked to the rear brake for co-ordinated braking. The handlebar lever controlled the other disc. Braking system great especially for slowing a heavy sidecar. The torque of the bike was powerful enough to get the outfit moving. Excellent engine and full of character. Love shaft drive bikes.

I owned the MkV for 11 years from new and covered over 120,000 klms on the girl. Big, red and noisy, and a fabulous mile muncher. Almost anti-social. 1000 kilometres days were covered often. She's no longer of this Earth. My Le Mans MkV ended up in a ditch at 120kph in the rain returning from the 2001 Phillip Island World Superbikes.

The way they carried up the frame tubing in the back is very nice for carrying the load of luggage and passenger.

I’ve seen several reviews of the V85TT now and they all seem to agree that’s it’s a lovely bike, full of character and really puts a smile of your face - with the only issue being its looks. I like it - not at first but it’s grown on me. Would I buy one? Maybe. If I had the means to own multiple bikes then I think the V85TT would certainly be a contender for a spot in my garage, but the trouble is if you can only afford one or two bikes making a decision is so difficult with so many great bikes to choose from. First world problems eh? 😂 A great review Andy 👍 Andy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

It’s hard to believe this is your first Guzzi. I really like them as a nice, mature person’s bike. They remind me a bit of Harley Davidson without the macho image and excess weight.

Andy, A great review, come and try a Le Mans 1, to see how things have changed in 40 years, the handling of their Tonti inspired frames has always been great. The torquey Guzzi V twin engines will typically do many 1,000’s of miles if properly serviced etc, at £10.8k it looks fantastic value & a bit different... Tim

After a 30 year break from bikes I bought a V7 II and 4 years on it still feels great, even commuting to work feels like an occasion on a Guzzi! Be careful Andy, once bitten by the bug there's no going back... PS. I prefer the Red/White colour scheme, and apparently a Capnord front mudguard bolts straight on the V85 :-)

I do love the 1980s Dakar vibe and all the wonderful wonderful details the brand is known for on full display with the V85TT. I find the paint scheme appealing as well, but I can understand why others feel differently.

It's so lovely. I've seen it in the metal quite a lot. I see a lot of Italian tourists coming thru my town. It's gorgeous. Not to big, not to small. Sounds like a motorcycle should sound. I'd get one so bad but I do a lot of town riding especially during the summer with our Mediteranean hear. I don't like it being air cooled. I'm probably wrong but.

As a Moto Guzzi California Aluminium Sport owner and former BMW R1150GS owner Moto Guzzi could have made this bike for me. With the price being more than I can afford it will be a while, but with a favourable first impressions from you, plus we didn't have to wait for the white van, Mrs H may be unimpressed Asni go into saving.mode :-)

Good review as always TMF. I test rode a V85TT myself during the summer along with a number of other bikes. This was, by far, the best looking (IMO) of the bikes I tested but it wasn't for me because: seat was uncomfortable for me; I found the engine / gearbox to be a bit agricultural; and the buffet from the screen above 60 mph made my eyeballs wobble (I'm 6'0"). Also, I didn't like the switchgear as it was a bit vague. Got the cruise control working once but couldn't repeat it later despite an identical sequence of button pushes. And finally, the machine I rode had very soft brakes. Overall though a characterful bike as you reported. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for picking up this lesser-reviewed bike. For some reason, Moto Guzzi aren't very common. Could be due their divisive looks. Wonder what happens when you drop it and that protruding engine case hits the ground. An aftermarket guard would be a worthwhile investment.
