For years... Germany has always dominated the compact sport sedan class with the BMW 3-series. However, as buyers continue to shift their focus from sedans to SUV's, the sport sedan segment isn't quite as hot as it once was, with most of the alternative Japanese and American entries really lagging behind their European rivals. For 2019, Korea comes in with a strong sucker punch with the new 2019 G70... Fortified with 365 HP from a twin-turbo V6, standard RWD (or available AWD), Brembo brakes, plentiful standard equipment wrapped in one seriously attractive design inside and out. Should European rivals be worried? Absolutely.

Got my G70 delivered about 2 months now.. Let me tell you. No car turns heads like this does. The power is amazing, features on point and the interior is class... Don't be influenced by what other think simply because it is not German. Did I mention also comes with a 15 speaker -800 watt lexicon audio system? Test drive one, you'll see for yourself

And I have no idea why ... they make great cars. I bought a Hyundai in 2006, and it burbled along for 260,000 miles with no drama until a texting teen rammed it on the driver side door. The SRS worked perfectly at 11 yrs old. I certainly was not expecting that kind of service life when I bought it.

Only thing I don't like are some of the decisions made with the exterior. Those front turn signals look they were pulled right from another Hyundai model. And why on earth would they cheap out and use incandescent bulbs for the rear signals and reverse lamps?? It can't POSSIBLY be saving them much to do that, especially when you see Kia using LEDs all around. Also, I gotta disagree with Sofyan on the wheels. I think the 19s on the 2.0 look much more sporty. Would be cool if they offered the option to choose which wheels you want like the European brands generally offer. Still, looks like a good car, even though I'll most likely lean more towards a Stinger due to the larger cargo capacity and flexibility offered with the hatch.

Personally, I like the grill...its a bit too big, and I would prefer it in a darker color, but it's nice. I totally agree with the rear turn signals. There's no reason why they shouldn't be L.E.D., especially since they are on the Stinger GT models.

If Consumer Reports is correct, Genesis is making highest quality cars, highest luxury for the money, highest reliability, and highest customer satisfaction. I can't speak based on personal knowledge of owning one, but if I were in the market for a 40-60K luxury car, I would consider one.

Infiniti is trash, genesis not only has the better drive and quality, but they take care of their customers. In my three year lease I don’t have to pay for ANY maintenance (including oil changes and such) also when it’s time to take it to the shop they have a valet bring me a loaner and they take mine never even having to step one foot in the shop. NO ONE in this price range does that

My Genesis top of the line 2.2T was delivered end of April. I can tell you how happy I’ve been driving this beauty. I was asked at least 3 times if this is a Bentley and my answer as always is, I can’t afford a Bentley. People literally stop to ask what kind of car I’m driving so that tells you the look is there. I have owned Lexus ES300 or 350 which I replaced with Infiniti Q60 (which I still have) and no one ever said, “what a beautiful car”. Sorry, they said that about Q60 as well but not as frequent as the comment I received so far on G70. I had no problems with the first two and so far, I have had no issues with this one either. Does it drive well? Definitely. All I can say is, I feel safe on the road and that’s what counts to me. I also like the fact that I can switch to different modes. Thank you Genesis.

Genesis is the luxury brand of Hyundai and Stinger is the performance brand of Kia. Same people leaving nasty comments forget that Acura is really Honda and Infinity is Nissan. Hell, even Lexus is a Toyota whereas Volkswagen owns Audi and Bentley among others so before yapping off about a car’s brand name, understand the company behind it. Lol

Alphonsus Ho The problem with "Its a Hyundai" comment is that its still very true. As mentioned in the video - it still shares tons of Hyundai equipment. It uses a Hyundai infotainment system at the 50K price range... Infiniti, Acura and Lexus + all the German competition have their own luxury department infotainment system. Until Genesis get up to speed and separates themselves from Hyundai more - its justified to say its a Hyundai. Until then - no one is paying 50K plus for a Hyundai. At 50K range - people will still be looking at Germans and Japanese.

Think about Hyundai 10 years ago.....now look at what they’re putting out. While I don’t think Hyundai is “there” yet, they’ve gone far in a short period of time. Remember that Hyundai now has a very strong team behind their brands. They poached Audi’s designer, several engineers from BMW including the Biermann who was head of the M division, and they outsource suspension tuning from lotus.

Sean Hoffman I believe they consulted lotus engineering for suspension tuning for the first generation Genesis. Lotus engineering does a lot of work for the auto industry. For example the corvette zr1 etc etc. nothing new there. For this Genesis, their tuning was done in-house. They even designed and built their own 8 speed auto instead of farming it out to ZF like many other manufacturers.

(b) The long term reliability and trade-in value is a HUGE question mark (c) the vectoring is brake applied to the inside wheel- Lots of grabbing going on during spirited driving. Now, onto the Positives - EVERYTHING ELSE!! This handles like a go cart (it is a Compact car) the steering wheel feels right, the turning radius is one of the best, It has 5 ride selections, the tech is in abundance, the seats can be sporty or comfy, that engine - torque & HP is ample (4.7 seconds from 0-60), the sight-lines are excellent, HUD displays whats needed, the adaptive cruise works really well, the 15 speaker Lexicon sound system is very good. I can go on and on. The summary is this- If you want a Value filled 4 door vehicle that looks great, has an AWESOME interior, is quick & fast when u want it to be, has the latest tech and your mother-in-law will like it too b/c in comfort mode it drives very smoothly then this is a big contender vs the Germans, Japanese and maybe Cadillac. Its an all in price for the 3.3TT V-6 of $57,500 Cdn. Book a test drive and see for yourself. Excellent compact 4 door sedan and if u enjoy assertive driving try the 3.3TT. Too much fun!! Also, the personal touch and customer service is a huge marketing advantage for them. Cheers from Vancouver, Canada!!

Wow! This is a huge improvement. I never would've guessed Hyundai was going to get this far. They really turned this whole company around. They really seem to be focusing a lot on sedans for the genesis brand though. I'm assuming for overseas markets. They really need a SUV for the U.S market though. I'm not complaining though. I like traditional sedans. Really excited to see what else they bring to the table in the coming years.

Hyundai is concentrating their strength on genesis. The reason they seperated genesis with hyundai is because their future goal is to compete with audi, bmw. I am korean and i didnt like hyundai but past 2 years my thought changed. . genesis is improving in a ultra speed and i can feel that when i ride... hyundai is using Article 100 every year only on genesis... so much money using on genesis . . They also made a 10year contract with bmw, audi engineers and giving the engineers so much money to share core technologys.. every year genesis will get better and better. I have no doubt that genesis will become one of the best brand in future

This is a great start for Genesis as a brand right now. Granted I don’t know if this will really impact German sales or their badge whores, but this will affect the Japanese. For the price point of this car, it’s extremely good for the value and power the car delivers and really like Sofyan said, what else competes with this much stuff for that price. The Q50 Red Sport may have more power but it will easily run you over 60 grand and other than the hp the car is a joke for what your paying for. The Lexus Is350 F Sport doesn’t have enough power to rival this and again will max out at about 52-55 grand. Lastly, the Acura TLX A-Spec doesn’t stand a chance and right now Acura is the real joke here tbh. At least Genesis is daring by offering a 6 speed manual with an lsd and Brembo Brakes and it shows how much they care about the buyer. For the price you won’t find anything that truly out rivals this and yes the Germans may be better for some people, but your easily paying 20 grand more for the same specs of this G70. Give it a chance people and stop trying to hate on a car that offers so much for what you are paying because this to me looks like it’s worth it anyway. My two cents peace

With gas prices climbing again, I don’t think crossovers will stay on top. All genesis needs are hybrid variants of their sedans and they should be fine. And you’re totally right, the TLX is kinda a joke right now. Acura as a brand needs complete rejuvenation if it wants to be competitive.

As a TLX owner....I agree completely with everything you say. Now next year there is a New TLX so we shall see. But right now this G70 has the Q50 RS beat as the Q50RS is very poorly optioned, Lexus beat for similar reasons as well as power. If it's reliable it could be a huge hit. But that sport needs better wheels imho.

The car overall makes the car. Just because the G70 is faster than the Merc and Audi of the same price - don't make it a better car. It just makes a faster car. The C300 and Audi A4 is still the better car - miles ahead better.
