2019 Corvette Grand Sport Review | From a Stingray Owner...

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After owning a C7 Corvette Stingray and driving two different C7 Z06s, I've really wanted to try out the C7 Corvette Grand Sport to see how it compares. Bradshaw Chevrolet in Greer, SC hooked me up with this 2019 Watkins Glen Gray Corvette Grand Sport to review. Watch the full video for a comparison and final thoughts at the end!

Im getting either a automatic C7 Z06 (2LT with PDR & Z07 pkg Blue ext) or C7 Grand Sport, or 2010-12 Porsche Turbo. Will I need or use the extra 200HP of the Z06 now that they sorted out the over heating issues. I would get the alignment done right after the purchase and add a DCS suspension module. The Turbo is built better and has a far better PDK trans and holds the value better. However I would be buying a NEW VETTE and the Z06 new is what the Porsche costs used err pre owned. Its a tough call. I love all these cars and want to be smart with my money. The depreciation of the Vette is a bit of hurdle for me. As it will be work about 50% less in a few yrs where as the Turbo will most likely lose only about 5-10k. Dont know. Theres also the ZL1; but the blind spot is the size of Texas and I dont do convertibles due to fair skinned. What are your thoughts? Im leaning towards the Z06 but the GS isnt out of the running yet. Turbo is now tied for a 3 way tie for 1st. The R8 is out due to limited trunk space, the NSX (both new and olds school both) due to price and age and horrible auto. ( I need auto do to nerve damage in spine where I cant feel my feet and also ripped ligaments in left ankle causes major pain when I shift) I have a 2015 Golf R 6MT

The GS is the Vette to get, in my opinion. Personally, I do think there's such a thing as too much power, especially for those who won't track the car. To me, 425-475 HP is the sweet spot range for a light wieght, rwd sportscar because 99.9% of drivers aren't skilled enough to safely handle any more than that, despite the fact that they all believe they're as good as pro drivers.

I want a corvette so badly....they are literally just a bit out of my price range. I'm in a 2017 5.0 premium so I'm still in a nice car, and it was 41 grand, but I'm gonna have to save a little for the vette. Not complaining though, I still feel blessed and thankful for everything god has blessed me with, so I know one day I'll have my vette

I have a 2015 Challenger Scat Pack with some suspension upgrades that I adore but I would love a mint C6 Grand Sport or a C7 Grand Sport. Just love American muscle/sports cars that are naturally aspirated. For my fun little commuter car I have a 2017 Miata RF. I never like imports but this car is like the poor man's Corvette - but I absolutely love the stock handling. I hope you get your C7 GS dream one day.

Really good review; thanks for doing this. Only a couple of comments for consideration; - when comparing ownership cost I think it’s great you covered tire cost because you are right, its a big deal. However, I would have touched on the difference of oil changes - comparing your base car to the dry sump. - maybe you have already covered this (in a previous video - sorry if you have), but you mentioned the wider tires and the fact of how sticky they are, along with putting a film on the car. This was a completely new concept for me which I only accidentally discovered after buying my car. Adding the film is like so many other products - ranging from okay to excellent. - lastly, changing from summer only tires to all season tires for us daily driver types was like getting a different car. All the great stuff is still there, but now its a lot smother and quieter. I’m not a track guy, even though they are high performance tires and I understand would do fine on the track, I’m loving my Michelin AS 3+ tires. Again, only now discovering your video. I’ve now subscribed - keep up the great work!!! I’m also happy to hear that someone other than a middle aged white hair citizen with a little more disposable income drives one of these beauties. Not that there is anything wrong with that either ;)

IMHO, Grand Sport is easily the best bang for your buck (said the guy who owns an '18). Some of the prices on the 17s & 18s currently on the lots are absolutely insane. If anyone is considering one, there may never be a better time to dive in...you'll never regret it.

My Grand Sport, Shadow Grey, with 2 tone light grey dark grey interior, Chrome wheels, Black Calipers. Only one they had on the lot that had chrome wheels and fit my request perfectly. Thank you MacMulkin Chev Nashua N.H. As I have never had nor rode in a Corvette, its been a HEAVENLY ride. Reason behind getting the Grand Sport vs the Z06 was, I think Id get into more trouble with the supercharged lol. Temptation Temptation. The Grand Sport has plenty of power with the same body as the Z06. I am very happy with it. I am finding other people on the highway edging me on to race or get on it to show off. Comes with the territory I assume. It is winter here, and Im jonesing for spring as it has been parked for a few months !!!

I own a 2019 Gray/Black rim GS and I consider it one of the best buys I've ever made. It competes on looks and capability with any sports car and comes close to super cars. It's youthful looking and I literally snap necks all day driving it. Pretty much all fixes have been made to this year. I'm all in for $75K 2LT optioned out. Yes tires are expensive because they got a shit ton of grip and are fat as heck. The tires provide crazy grip and look great. I have 9,500mi in less than 4 months lol. Tip, don't drive on loose grave roads or behind trucks. Chips will come....

I bought a '19 GS w/o Z07. I presumed that the vast majority of the single-lap performance difference between standard GS and Z07 GS was in the tires. As you pointed out in the video the OEM GS tires are even more expensive than the PS Cup 2 tires which I found a bit surprising--however they have a 15,000 mile warranty. Depending on the miles i get from the Super Sports I may just get the Cup 2 at replacement time. To be determined. I already have 511 miles after 2 weeks of ownership just from driving around for the fun of it. (I have a Honda for a DD). Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the feedback Clark 👍🏻 The Pilot Super Sports are a much more versatile tire and still perform well on the track. I actually know a guy who got his Cup 2 tires switched out to Super Sports before he left the dealership with his new Vette, because he didn't like the characteristics of the Cup 2 tire around town.

I think a GS with a few bolt ons would put it in the perfect amount of horsepower. Right around 500-520 horsepower. I’ve driven a 2015 zl1 and with 580 hp it wanted to fishtail when you floored it. Plus it’s hard to have fun with crazy amounts of horsepower because you’ll be going way too fast once you really step into it

I’ve driven a Z06 and it was one of the easiest cars I’ve ever driven. When you treat it like a baby it would be absolutely great in tour and eco mode. If it was that easy then the Grand Sport is the perfect mix between daily commuter and pure drivers car without all the power. My gas mileage in the Z06 was around 27 and up daily driving it. I drove it to school and back and it was amazing on gas and road feel. I sold it last year and I wish I didn’t. Z06’s are extremely high price now so I’m now looking for a Grand Sport. What I’m tryna say is, is that if the Z06 was amazing, the Grand Sport will be just as good without the horsepower

  • @CarsCostsandTechnology

I've reviewed two different Z06s. The only things that stood out to me as not ideal for daily driving is how low the front splitter is and how wide they are while driving in tight areas or near curbs. The sticky tires also flick up a ton of rocks. If those things don't bother you than a Grand Sport or Z06 are awesome overall cars for commuting or daily driving.

Two years in from this review, the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are almost exactly the same price as the Pilot Super Sport's, and there are much less expensive alternatives available. Most of these cars sit more than they are driven, so it's not like you're buying tires every year. Anyway, I want one.

Nice review. The Stingray is about 100 lbs lighter than the GS, with fewer ground effects, so may actually be a little quicker. Love the stance of the GS and Z06, but honestly, I don't think the average Joe on the street can tell the difference between those two and a C7 Stingray. Only C7 Stingray owners notice! (like me) Looking at your car next to the GS, it was difficult to see the difference. And those tires! $$$! Ouch!

If you want a C7 and don't have one don't worry. You're in a good position. I have owned a C5, C6, and C7 as daily drivers over the past 20 years. Here is how I would compare them.... C5: Is a typical vette that balances price and performance. It's the biggest bang for the buck as many would say and I would agree. For the corvette line the C5 has a HUD that includes the gas gauge and this means you rarely have to look down at your instrument panel; tac, speed, and gas are all there projected over the road. The sound system is typical but not exceptional. It is fairly comfortable but still a hard'ish ride. Over 200 miles you may find yourself shifting in your seat a little but not a big deal for me. Cornering is good but does not exceed expectations. It is not as surefooted as an AWD or 4WD and can get squirrely especially when the tires start to wear which is usually every 1.5 years when driven as a daily driver. I would rate this as a 8 out of 10 for a daily driver. Car started having the first signs of problems after about 8 years and around 80-90,000 miles.C6: Improves upon the C5 with its handling. The stereo is still good but not markedly improved over the C5. Chevrolet removed the gas gauge from the HUD with this model which is a ludicrous decision. With this model you're forced to look at the instrument panel often if only to look a the gas gauge. Gas mileage is similar to that of the C5. Car does get squirrely as tires wear but it's not as bad as the C5 even though many C6 owners have complained in the owner forums about GM putting the wrong type of tires on the car to begin with. Reliability is good as with the C5. This car is more comfortable than the C5 with seats that feel fairly padded but secure. Space is enough to easily fit 6'5" drivers and passengers so if you're tall this car is great for you. Price and performance are the biggest selling points for this car. All in all it's a better vehicle than the C5 except for the gas gauge being removed from the HUD. Tires for each will cost about 1,400 for all 4. I would rate this as a 9 out of 10 for a daily driver. Car started having problems after about 11 years and about 120,000 miles.C7 (2019): Handling is vastly improved over the C6 which was improved over the C5. The gas gauge is still missing from the HUD which is a big disappointment. This is the first corvette that has a truly good sound system that has deep base and high treble. Unfortunately this version of the vette lacks a lot of what the C6 got right. This car has a fogging problem where the other two did not. Not a big deal you say because you throw the defroster on high... until you notice that air doesn't come out of the defrosters until 15-20 seconds after you put the fan on high... then you have to keep the not entirely quiet fan on medium just to keep the windows relatively fog free. The C5 and C6's engine would respond immediately when you put your foot on the gas. The C7 chokes and sputters right off the showroom floor when you first put your foot on the gas. Release the clutch during this 1/2 second of sputtering and the engine will die. Again, the C5, C6, and every other car I've driven hasn't had this problem. Even tested with other C7s on the lot the same thing happens. This seems to be a problem with the C7 (2019?). The car generally feels cheaply made and you'll notice it within the first 6,000 miles; it will make some whines, whirls, and clunks that you've never heard in a new car. The tires they put on this car take low speed tight corner turn jerking to a new level. It is so bad that you wouldn't know if you hit another car or if the tires are simply skidding under you when you turn in a parking lot. GM even has a disclaimer/warning about this that comes with the car. Make sure you get all season tires as the summer tires they put on the car can get very very slippery in inclement weather. The interior is very tight compared to the C5 and C6 and those owners will have to get use to the tight cockpit. There's better visibility than the C6; which has worse visibility than the C5. If GM fixed the throttle with the C7, the defrosting problems, and worked out whatever bugs in the engine that make high pitched whirling noises then the C7 would have been a contender. Oh, and the recycled air option that you're thankful to have when there's a bad odor, exhaust, or cigarette smoke outside your car doesn't exist in the C7. The button is there but it still lets outside air into the cabin so sniff away at the exhaust fumes from the truck ahead of you because you're in the C7. So far the car hasn't had any problems but from the sounds and feel of this car (after owning the C5 and C6 for so many years) it won't be long until major problems likely will start rearing their ugly heads. My advise - find a low mileage C6 instead of buying a C7.
