Thanks for the video! Got both footwell lights installed in 45 mins.

JJ163 You did an excellent video. Both your original and your follow up. I will use your video, instructions, and everything you showed to do my lights in my new 2021 Rav4 Hybrid I just purchased. I wanted to share with you an item that I found that seems to really add to the ambient light setup you have created. You know how the door handle to open the door is rather dark and hard to see? Well they have made exact replica replacements for the panel behind the handle that pops out so easy and as well as the window switch panels on each door. They also come with a pigtail that adds the small line into your existing wiring so it is all done with plugs with the exception of the drivers side which I will tell you the trick to getting it done. When I first ordered my door bowl lights I did not look closely at what I was ordering and I am so glad I did. I was met with a huge surprise when they arrived. When I ordered them and watched videos for the install they appeared to be the exact looking piece that comes with the car with the exception of a small section added to the top of the piece with the LED lights in it shining down. Makes for a super easy 10 minute install for all 4 doors. When the set I ordered arrived they were completely different looking but with a look that excited me more than the traditional look more people might be looking for. It wires up the exact same way you just pull a super strong film off of 2 double sided stick tape and press it on to your existing plate you just pulled off the vehicle. To me this added an awesome look especially since it brings it into the back seat on both rear doors. As you will see in this video it shows you how to fix this with the basic replacement piece cause it has a slightly different wiring harness. The one that comes with the lighted RAV4 plates does not have the black wire going to both plugs like in the video but the concept is the same. I cut the black wire from the small plug and cut with about 1" left on left side and than took the same wire in the 6th slot and i just spread a small spot of insulation away and exposed the wire without cutting it. Than i stripped the black wire and wrapped it around the exposed wire taped it and it worked perfectly. This is a great video. I appreciate the follow up too for the proper hookup of the under console and the install for the cup holder. Just curious about the proper hook-up for the driver side pocket next to the steering wheel. I just purchased some red lights after watching these videos to go with my Red 21 XLE Hybrid, and I'm excited to do this! I'll be referring to your videos again when I'm ready to install myself.

I bought the footwell lights from Ali. The ones you suggested. And I can’t get a positive click when inserting. Did you have the same issue? I tried for 30 mins and gave up.

What's the advantage of wiring the shelves ambient light the way you did in this video as compared to your previous one? Great video by the way! This has been very informative. I just purchased the lights to hopefully wire the same way as shown in the first video (for ease)

@@JJFLD How do you remove the heated seats control panel? I just want to remove that to install a USB charge port in place of the dummy slot. Other tutorial videos on here show to fish it through a hole but I just can't do it with my sausage fingers! T_T

@@CumBrianFries I had to pull the climate controls off and remove the centre console (the shifter and phone tray). That gave me access to take that out but you're going to have to remove a lot of stuff to gain access.

How did you get the LED strip leads into the white connector for the footwell light? Do you just push them in or did you have to do some splicing?

If you pigtail the two wires, you only have one to push into the connector ( for the previous connection on the passenger side )

@@jjpenman1848 I am so impatient I wished I had seen your reply. I ordered the lights from my dealer for $25.50 each and they are so dim you really cant tell they are on. I was thinking about using what I used for the cup holder. I think I can use them by making a few modifications when the light goes. Here is what I used for the cup holder spot. So I just checked on my 2020 XLE, and no harness is available. I have an autel scan tool with programmable options, do you think I can get the harness and change the settings for the system to recognize the option to turn the wiring on?

There are a few threads about that and it’s not possible for the most part. I think someone got it done but they had to find an alternative way to ground the wire. It’s a BIG hassle for the latest XLEs.

Rav4 that don't come with the Ambient light have the connectors you tap into? I have a 2020 Rav4 XLE premium and mine doesn't have any ambient light.

2020 rav4 xle primeum also didn't have it either. At least on the passenger side no wires for it. I'll think of something but I did like the auto dim feature

I believe someone else already did that. There is a dashcam that I’ve always wanted and that is the Toyota dashcam, but they only sell that in Canada and I don’t know how to get it here.

@@JJFLD the toyota dash cam cost 640 CAD, with installation fee and taxes you will reach around 700 ish+... and this is front facing dash camera only.. Better buy thinkwire u1000 (front and rear camera) from best buy and install it by yourself.

My LE came WITHOUT the Footwell wiring harness/plug. I only checked the passenger side and its not there. Is it worth checking behind the center console? also, any advice on how I should wire the lights without the footwell light harness? I ordered the lights and when i went to install them, no harness. imagine my disappointment. :(

You could check behind the centre console to wire the ambient lights, but even if you buy the wiring harness for the footwell lights, I’ve heard that some ECU are just programmed to reject the lights even if you use a Techstream computer to turn on the lights. I think the best thing for RAV4 owners like you with no footwell lights, probably tapping into the 12V outlet to power the lights would be the best solution. It won’t be as nicely integrated with the car, however at least you’ll have ambient lights.

So im not going crazy. Some rav 4 do not have footwell lights correct? Ive been trying to find settings to turn them on because its so dark. The hybrid model i have doesnt have any footwell lights.

My 2021 Xle doesn’t have it either 😑 I bought the lights and once I pulled the passenger glove box and saw that it wasn’t there I kind knew so I checked the drive and nothing there either. Kinda bummed out

I think my 2019 rav4 premium has the wires from for the led light from Toyota. If I just buy the led lamps and connect them am going to have light?

Test if you have voltage first. Some people have the wires and no voltage to them.

JJ just finished installing the lights that I bought from Toyota and they work thank you so much. Now I’m thinking to try the rest of the light. The cup holder and the two storage areas on the dashboard ( left/right) what is your thought?

For any Prime owners out there (2021 Prime Se) No harness at footwell. No harness behind AC controls. Yes, harness at center console/cup holders. BUT, there is no 12v power supplied to the harness. Sad.
