2019/2020 Toyota RAV4 XLE AWD Review: A Shocking Improvement

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The new 2019 Toyota RAV4 XLE AWD is a shocking improvement over the previous Toyota RAV4 XLE. In this review of the new 2019 RAV4, we go over all of the improvements for the Toyota RAV4 XLE AWD and go in depth on the drive, interior, and exterior. The RAV4 initially started this CUV crossover segment and since then, has out sold the competition. We're going to take a look at some of the reasons why the Toyota RAV4 has stood on top for so long amongst such serious competition.

Hello, just came across this review and it's super informative so thank you! I recently saw this color advertised as a new 2021 toyota color, which confused me a bit because the description says this car is a 2019. Are you able to clarify if this color (lunar rock) was available in previous models before 2021 for the RAV4? I haven't been able to find any used or certified pre-owned, but that also maybe because no one is selling theirs!

Hi thanks so much for stopping by glad you found value with this review. Yes the model featured in this review is a 2019 Rav4 finished in Lunar Rock. Toyota added this color recently as a new 2021 color for the Tundra and 4runner I believe but the Rav4 has always had this color since 2019. Really love this color I think it is my most favorite Toyota color

Funny story, most dealers are charging 4k over sticker for a TRD Pro 2021 4Runner in lunar Rock due to the demand. These new colors toyota rolled out with are proving to be very popular for sure

@@MeynMotorGroup nice review dude. What improvements are in 2020 vs the 2019? They are the same vehicle? Is it wind noise? I’d rather get 2019 save some cash used. I value your opinion Kevin & overall you can't go wrong on a RAV4 when you factor in resale & reliability value! However, having said that, I do a lot of highway driving back & forth to work here in Southern Oregon & the wind-noise & instability issues would be a deal breaker for me I think. I recently viewed "Throttle House" vid & they did a comparison of the VW Tiguan vs the Toyota RAV4 & they couldn't recommend one over the other. I for one would choose the Tiguan because of the German superior engineering in my opinion. But beyond the Tiguan, what I am drooling over is the introduction of the new 2020 Audi Q3 S-Line!! That B***H is Beautiful!!! Thumbs Up &I look forward to you reviewing that one someday!

Thank you Greg means a lot to me that you value what I do! And yes if highway driving is what you mostly do, you would probably have to look else where from Toyota haha. We owned a 2012 Passat when that vehicle was new and I will honestly say, the level of solidity and “bank vault” like feel we got from that, was never replicated in any other midsize car. Not Toyota, Mazda, Kia, nothing. All three I mentioned are great however you gotta Buy German to get that feel I mentioned. Tiguan probably has that feel. And yea I like Audi’s a lot! Hopefully one day I can make that happen haha

Dude! Many people despise Toyota for ugly design but this looks ok to me. I love the new Highlander in Moon Dust though! Toyota has interesting colors like Blue Flame, Cement, Sandstorm etc which are light powder blues and greys. Looks awesome on the Tundra/Tacoma, Rav4 and CHR. Very pastel and done right. I love the white or blue combo exterior/roof. We should definitely have two-tone colored exteriors back (50s style!) But I still think the Mazda CX-5 is the best small suv. It's likely more refined and made better. Even Consumer Reports says the Rav4 is too loud and cheap feeling :/ Keep up the good work! :)

Gas mileage I thought at first was alot but warmer months I have seen a significant change for the better, also depends on how heavy you are on the peddle. On the hiway good mileage. Appreciate the review, but I disagree on the wind noise. I test drove the gas Limited when it first came out and did not have that issue. Perhaps just an issue on lower trims? And the hybrid Limited, which I have on order, is pretty quiet (even more than gas at freeway speeds, IMO). Not luxury car quiet, but very good for its class. There is nothing backing up your claim that the gas version will be more reliable than the hybrid JD Power ranks them equally.

Oh yea so nothing too terrible the car was just fine we could have kept it forever. It's just that my mom doesn't drive and I bought a car for college and the Rav4 was never being used. So we traded that and our old 2006 Tundra for a newer 2010 Tundra that only had 19,000 miles so it had less miles than our Rav4 even which had 26,000 miles. Two cars is perfect in our household but we are definitely a Toyota family haha they never die.

Not exaggerating it’s a disaster at least this press car I got I don’t know what’s wrong. And it had a tendency to like hop almost at 70+ mph did not feel stable. But yes you’re right just turn up the music I hope your XSE is better

Much of the road noise is the tires. When the time comes to replace the tires, choose a quiet tire. I had a 2020 with Michelin tires and it was much quieter and better handling than my 2021 with Toyo tires.

The new 8 speed transmission has lots of issues on the 2019 RAV4. The 6 speed on the earlier models was bulletproof. Google it. Do some research.

Another great review Kevin! One of the things that's always pissed my off with Toyota is they are the kings of expensive mediocrity and they are just selling on their name, whereas Hyundai for example are innovating and giving you the maximum for your money and to be fair their reliability is now as good or if not better than Toyota which is what Toyota always harp on about .

Thank you sir! And yea I know what you mean and for the most part I agree. And yes I will forever be a fan of the Korean cars for the reasons you have mentioned. They do so well because they listen actively to what consumers and journalists have to say and improve constantly. This is why they do so good and their reliability is certainly stellar. Their amazing warranty and the way they stand behind their products says a lot. Thanks again for stopping by my friend. Take care!

Hyandai reliability has improved but no way they're as reliable as Toyota/Honda. With the new Rav4 I'm glad they didn't go turbo engine as those inevitably have shorter lifespans then turbos.
