2019 Toyota RAV4 Review (The Perfect Crossover With One Weird Flaw)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This 2019 Toyota RAV4 Limited AWD is packed to the gills with features, and I got a chance to drive it over 500+ miles so I can give you this review.

In this review I got the chance to go over my favorite features of this compact crossover. There are so many niceties in this fuel efficient all-wheel drive vehicle that it was very hard to pick out what I hated about it. That is until I heard the All Wheel Drive Torque Vectoring system with driveline disconnect in action. Go check the review and see if you've heard what I've heard.

    I bought the RAV4 in 2019 and love it . Having said that by 2021 there was a recall for the fuel pump, I had to have the clutch assembly replaced and the gaskets for the roof rack bar replaced as they were leaking into the cabin every time it rained.

    I and my wife bought a 2019 le naturally aspirated rav 4 and after 4 months we like it very much. I was shocked how good the fuel economy is. It has been off road a lot and I was surprised how well it does on dirt roads. It is a toyota and is the best suv in this class.

We have a 2014 RAV4 and my neighbor has 2012 RAV4, they are famous for their in-cabin noise as well as that 1st morning engine start noise; I really hesitate to get this generation of RAV4 even with the absolutely preferred none-turbo engine. I wanted to buy the 2020 next spring but the 2021 just was announced and it has 302 HP. So this lead foot is hoping it will come to Germany in 2020/2021. Here I can use all those horses for autobahn runs at 85 - 100 mph and not burn a lot of gas. I test drove a 2019 with 219 HP and was impressed - the 2021 with 302 HP will sure make my right foot happy.

    @@56585656587 Probably the most solid choice in the segment right now. RAV4 is a comfortable crossover with a composed ride and decent handling. Room inside is spacious and there are useful storage spaces. TSS 2.0 is standard on all trims and I'm a big fan of LED headlights on all trims. Resale and reliability should be solid, though even I'm concerned about the 8 speed and torque vectoring AWD system (read some uneasy owner reviews on Car and Driver). Engine is definitely loud, but hybrid fixes all of that. CR-V has strong acceleration, handling, and room inside, but it lacks important safety features, such as LED headlights or BSM, on every trim except the Touring (top trim). Also has engine oil dilution issues. Escape is a fun and comfortable crossover. 2.0T and 1.5T are both peppy with nice low end torque. Ride comfort is great and cabin noise is well insulated. Fuel economy and resale is a weakness however. Rogue is crap. Mediocre engine and dog crap CVT. Get ready to sell it after 3 years. CX-5 is the sportier handling options in the segment. Interior is as premium as it gets and the seats are exceptionally comfortable. Safety tech and LED headlights are standard on every trim which is awesome. It is smaller though and doesn't have the resale that Honda and Toyota do.

(I was concerned about the "weird" flaw! when I saw your title) Just bought a RAV4 Hybrid Limited...I'm all about reliability (get me from A to B with no hassles and safely) but I also think it looks really good, it's so comfortable, its a great ride and I feel I got a great value though it was not inexpensive. (in my opinion) We do keep our cars for many years so I did a lot of research. There is so much tech (compared to my 2009 Camry) that I don't know if I'll ever learn it all. Just like my phone. But I made the right choice.

  • @afcgeo882
    @afcgeo8825 жыл бұрын

    YOU cannot disconnect the rear axle and YOU cannot put it into 2WD mode. The car chooses when and where it does that, not you. That’s an important difference. The torque vectoring system in the RAV4 is not a brake-based system, which is why it stands out. It literally sends more power to the wheel that’s still gripping via its own axle. I appreciate that you mentioned the DI/PI aspect of the engine. I think that’s overlooked by most reviewers and will contribute a lot to the car’s long-term reliability and resale value.

    Are you guys aware that this dynamic torque vectoring system makes a very loud “clank,clank” when it disengages itself in normal and eco mode? If you own an adventure or limited model RAV (2019 model) you will hear this (as you brake and are coming to a stop at around 18-20 mph in a relatively quiet neighborhood or environment) if you roll down your windows (noise can’t be heard with windows up). If I have any issues with this car after I get I will get rid of it and get a Subaru Forester. As it has more features for the money. Real leather, android auto and apple carplay, a CD player, real roof rails, more room etc. If it had better fuel economy I would have chosen this over Toyota. I've driven both vehicles and imo the Subaru has a more comfortable ride, very open and airy compared to the Rav4.

    I have not heard any of those sounds. Yes there are some quirky things about the drive system such as a hesitation to shift after cruising up to an intersection (stop lights, signs) where the system try’s to determine what gear to select. 2019 RAV 4 Limited so far so good! Fuel economy has been 32 mpg in all around driving conditions, I expect to lose some as winter is coming soon. I traded my 2016 Honda CRV for this and no regrets. I found that I didn’t like CVT transmissions. Overall the RAV 4 is a better choice (for me).

    How is the acceleration from a full stop with the Rav4? Also, the Honda Crv has a lot of cabin noise. How does the Rav4 compare?

    Peter Null Acceleration is more then adequate and it’s quick in sport mode. Cabin noise during hard acceleration is noticeable but quiets down and remains quieter the my 2016 CRV. You must try it before buying you may like or dislike the way you hear it and feel the acceleration for yourself.

    I test drove the Adventure trim. The engine noise was terrible and the transmission was clunky. The combination made for a test drive that was unbearable. It had me wondering if Toyota had bothered to drive their creation. Too bad the Adventure is totally my jam-love the look.....had it driven like a Subaru I would have bought one. The hybrid was better.......but that engine noise......like someone scrapping a cheese grater on the inside of your skull.......

    Nice review. If it wasn't for Toyota shrinking the Rav-4 by 2.5 inches and the abrasive engine noise, we probably would have been buyers this year. Also not a big fan of the tacking a tablet to the dash, but at least it looks functional. This review is worth watching:kzread.info/dash/bejne/h42Z05etm5OepM4.html

    The wheelbase was extended since the RAV4 is now on the TNGA global platform and the interior is actually slight bigger. I agree the gas version is loud. But the Hybrid is better. My wife likes the Entune touch screen display and Apple CarPlay works great.

  • @wind7sailor

    @wind7sailor

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@davidncollins13 Toyota did extend the wheelbase, but since they shrunk the length by 2.5 inches and they also shrank the front legroom by over 1.5 inches. Being taller, I was hoping for an increase in legroom similar to that found in the Subaru Forester and the Nissan Rogue, but Toyota only marginally expanded the cargo space and this was a killer. We'd been waiting for the last 4 years for Toyota to add Apple Carplay. I'm glad that the Rav-4 works for you and your wife. Toyota builds a very reliable vehicle.

    kens97sto171 it is that easy. A lot of aftermarket stereos come equipped to be able to have all of those features. They have to otherwise they wouldn’t be able to compete. I guarantee you that you can go to Best Buy and get a replacement and you will not lose any of those features. You may have to buy additional accessories to ensure they work, but they can make it all work. If they couldn’t make it work, then aftermarket stereos would be nonexistent.

    Toyota can't style anything. And this one has a disproportionate jaw pushed up under it's headlights. That and the unpurposeful angles all around the exterior kinda make it look Toyota is trying harder to do something (in this case, styling) they are obviously very bad at and getting nowhere. Like the gas consumption figures though.
