2019 / 2020 Lincoln Nautilus | Coming Out of The Shell

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The artist formerly known as the MKX is the Lexus RX you've always wanted. The adaptive suspension gives it a classic Lexus ride, the optional twin-turbo V6 gives it the performance Lexus lacks and the Black Label package adds the exclusivity and customization ability that shoppers have been asking for. The combination is refreshing because the Nautilus is not a "me too" crossover like just about every other option in this segment. Lincoln has eschewed the firm suspensions that the "sporty" options use to focus on comfort and luxury. Nut about that name...

@@huskydinosaur2860 Yep, around that sum. Some brands cost even more. Having wheels so big that you have to spend over one grand on tires is just stupid in my opinion. Especially in a comfort oriented SUV like this one. My 90s Volvo has 14 inch wheels and I buy good tires for $40 a piece, and it just glides over the road. Handles well too thanks to multi-link suspension in the back. Modern cars have gone way overboard with wheels and tires. They look good but they're also a scam designed to take more cost out of your pocket while manufacturers have to spend less on suspension design to get good mechanical grip.

Protector of the Republic I’m not amazed, I have 18” stock wheels on my Nissan and the cheapest set of tires I could find were 800.00, the good ones are 1,000 and up but they last a really long time. My last car had 16” wheels and tires were only $4-500.00 for a half decent set, $375.00 for a cheap set. My advice is to start shopping for tires months in advance, this way you can take your time to find better deals.

I purchased my Nautilus 1.5 years ago. I went to buy a cadillac and last minute saw this crossover. For me, it was a no-brainer. I love so many things about this vehicle. Mind you, I traded in my 2020 Soul EX. I will say the aggressive lane centering in the Kia beats the co-pilot's in the Lincoln. People come up to me all the time, wanting to look at it. It's beautiful, and I appreciate the creature comforts. Speaking of creatures, I'm an avid seashell collector. The Nautilus is one of my favorite seashells. If you notice, the rims on the Nautilus mimic the same spiral design inside of the actual seashell, which those chambers are actually filled with a gas. Of course, you wouldn't know any of that unless you studied marine biology or had an interest in seashells, lol. I honestly love the name. I'll albeit there are a few comparisons between the crossover and the shell. It's been good to me thus far. Thank you and your crew for all the time and effort you put into these in-depth auto reviews. I've always been a fan of your channel, and you never disappoint. Be well - Sky

Very much appreciated your comment about taking into account real world purchase prices when calculating savings in depreciation, Alex. Last year I traded a 2012 Kia Sorento for a 2018 model. The dealer credited my trade-in within $800 of the blue book estimate of a comparable 2012 Toyota Highlander of comparable mileage/condition/trim. Considering that I purchased the Sorento at nearly $6000 less than the best offer I had received for a Highlander in 2012, I made out like a bandit. The keys to minimizing depreciation loss on ANY new vehicle are simple. (1) Make a good deal when you buy the vehicle. (2) Take good care of it while you own it. (3) Hold onto it for six years or more. By the same token if you're willing to indulge a very expensive hobby, (1) Pay MSRP plus any "market adjustment" second sticker on a new car. (2) Thrash the hell out of it and ignore scheduled maintenance and service. (3) Trade it within three years or less.

Excellent review as always. What do I think? - I think that finally Detroit has hit the nail on the head. This Nautilus is simply stunning in every aspect, and one of the best looking lux crossovers in the market ( that last photo in red - WOW!). Superbly luxurious interiors and a torquey2.7 liter with adaptive suspension. /// The Reserve AWD with the 2.7 seems like better value option although I haven't seen the interior color combos. European and Japanese premium vehicles tend to have better lease options, and that, along with name prestige, drive most consumers in this segment towards those premium brands.

What i am not crazy about is the older design of the dash on the Nautilus SUV, who still has CD player slot? Love the new dash of the Corsair, but its a CUV. The cabin is roomier if you consider man-spreading, an important issue to consider for long drives, or sitting waiting in your car for your wife. The center console on the Nautilus confines your “boys”. On the Corsair, man-spreading is great, if you are a tall guy. Your right knee has room to spread over the center console, And your left knee has room to move under the door handle, which makes for a very relaxed drive. My wish, is to have The Nautilus share the new console design, like its other Lincoln SUVs. Its the only disappointment i see. Moreover, the Nautilus front seats have a roomier/wider back. If you’re a tall big man like me, the Corsair seats are not as wide.

Perhaps the name "Nautilus" is intended to remind one of the Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea fame, and not so much the mollusc. Lincoln v Lexus? After buying two new, ones I would not buy another Lexus ever. Brought my Rx400h in for an oil change per the schedule for its second servicing just shy of 10K mi from new. My bill? $709.. For an oil change. Oh, and they checked fluid levels. I complained to my "service consultant" who took fifty bucks off. He then smiled at me (and like nearly all new car dealers these days )said, "Oh, you'll be receiving a survey call from Lexus. My compensation depends upon your answers so I'd appreciate your giving me all 5"s on all questions." Yeah, whatever, I thought still unhappy about being ripped off on the oil change. Sure enough, that night I got a call and true to my word, I gave Dr. Jekyll high marks. The last question the surveyor asked was "Is there any reason you would not bring your car in for service in the future?" I replied, "I'm never bringing my car in again because your service costs are exorbitant and unreasonable. And although your consultant discounted my bill by fifty dollars I don't see myself being suckered into another $659 oil change." The next morning, I received a call from Mr. Hyde my service consultant that went like this: "What the f*** did you say to Lexus? I told you to give me all fives! I have a f***ing family to feed. You're an a**hole." Before I could respond, he hung up on me. I did this guy one more favor by not calling his boss, but will I ever consider buying another Lexus? Uh, no.

I do hope Lincoln/ford has observed and learned from the mistakes that Cadillac/GM are and have been making in terms of branding their vehicles based on the nameplate/aura of said nameplate! The prices of the XT5 and other models within the Caddy's range do not reflex the quality of such a marque as they would want me to believe! I do find the work/engineering being invested in Lincoln's model line up to be a more compelling choice if it was my hard earned money! Keep your eye on the prize Lincoln, your SUV line up is far more attractive than anything ng coming from GM or Europe for that matter.

I think Lincolns are great cruiser cars. I used to own one (The New MKZ Hybrid Top Tier model), I also used to own a Hyundai Azera. The major issue I had was the comfort of the seating of the Lincolns, especially on long drives. Lincolns comfort was terrible. The Hyundai on the other hand was a dream. I'll be getting that Palisade this year for sure. Sorry Lincoln and all other luxury models.

I think I'd rather get the Reserve trim cream colored like you showed and top-tier package and I can talk him a couple of thousand less so altogether that's about 7,000 less than Black Label, and I even like the wheels better on Reserve

I’m happy that Lincoln is bucking the naming scheme that luxury vehicles use. For Mercedes and BMW, it makes sense since they have such enormous lineups; but Lincoln, Cadillac, Acura, and Lexus have such small lineups that a naming system just isn’t necessary

I am cross-shopping QX60 with Nautilus because I'm looking for a soft ride. Can understand your not comparing it with Nautilus because it's a 3 row and 10 inches longer. I would fold down the 3rd seat forever and enjoy the extra storage.

Alex I have a question. I remember when you reviewed the MKX last time, you said that AWD system engages the real wheels by sending almost 50% of the power almost all the time, which definitely help with the driving dynamic. But this time it seems this nautilus sends less power to rear wheels than previous models?

I was seriously going to buy a Cadillac xt5 and decided to do more research because people keep saying Cadillac is not dependable; however, that body style is 100% better looking than any of the competitors. So looking for a comparable body style/ size brought me to the Lincoln Nautilus...it's lovely but it still doesn't make me swoon like the xt5 😍💜

I've driven the X3 and reviewed the GLC, and their seats are not real leather like the Nautilus. Also, the Nautilus offers tons more options than either of those, and is better in every way that I've seen. I would not compare either to the Nautilus, but would compare to the XT5 and RX350. Also, the BMW X5, but the X5 is way pricier to get similar options.

Reasons to choose the Lexus RX350 over the Nautilus: 1. Bullet-proof reliability 2. Superior dealership experience, including unlimited courtesy car washes for all owners and all trim levels 3. Better rear seat leg room 4. Lower MSRP for higher trim levels 5. Proven naturally-aspirated V6 engine

Active safety on all models. I’d wait for one of these base models sitting on the lot and get it for a steal. Why would they do a smaller V6 with a Turbo? The 3.7L V6 that was in the MKX was solid and same MPG.
