    Your comment on the heated steering wheel is spot on! In cold weather that chrome(?) ring stays cold even with the steering wheel heater on. Beyond issues with the rear entertainment system having Glitches, I've been happy with with my purchase of a standard 2017 Pacifica Limited trim model.

    we got a normal Pacifica Limited after debating for 8 months... expected to like it okay, ended up loving it. FCA put more effort into this van than I expected. The tilt forward feature of the 2nd row seats in the normal Pacifica I'd a MUST for folks with families, it makes the 3rd row super easy to access. we did the 8 person config (no sun roof, boo) and having that middle seat between the kids in 2nd is a must have. both to use as arm rest/water/iPad holder/Nana seat during road trips. I almost bought the 7 seat standard setup for Limited and would have regretted that. that's another reason why the tilt forward is SO helpful, people don't have to crawl in,around car seat and then down middle to get into back row. also the storage bins below seats is sizeable, perfect for roadside safety equipment and even compact spare if the fix flat kit isn't good enough. wife almost made us wait and get a plugin, that was why we were debating so much... ultimately the convenience items we got in the gas one more than makes up (CHECK THE FORUMS, there are specific nicities you cannot get on Hybrid. like homelink, HID lights, I think sub shades, memory seats... it's a really odd list)

    those little feature missing on the hybrid really don't matter, when you can make 90% of your driving pure electric, it beats every features imaginable period. I don't think you realize how graceful, peaceful, relaxing a 100% electric drive is, i own a nissan leaf as well and there is no way i'm going back to combustion engines again, wish i could have paid a bit more for more ranges without the engine but this pacifica is the closest ill get my wife to drive electric, it will do just fine for the next 5 years

    I agree on the drive knob proximity to other knobs, but you can not turn the knob when in drive unless you push it down, and at that point can ONLY go into low for a downshift. It's a non issue. The silver color makes it's stand out so it differentiates it from the other knobs enough it's a non issue.

    Hi Brian, nice review. In this video, you had mentioned about warm up time for Hybrid vehicles. Can you elaborate on that please? Just like you, I make a lot of short trips too. And I get terrible mileage on my Rav4. At first, I thought a hybrid would be ideal in my situation. But after hearing you mentioned that point about warm-up time, I'm not sure so if hybrid is for me anymore. So can you give me some details around this point please? Thanks. Also, I think a plug-in hybrid for big SUV and minivan, makes total sense. I wish the Japanese car maker will come up with their version soon because I would never by a domestic car.

  • @EverydayReviews2022

    @EverydayReviews2022

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes, short trips are killer for fuel economy which is why they say it's always best to try and group small trips together. A standard hybrid does help but I'm just saying, don't expect amazing fuel economy if you're doing doing lots of little trips. The plug in hybrid really is the perfect solution if this is your case. I won't be surprised at all if the Sienna and Odyssey will come out with something similar soon. One thing that is handy about a Hybrid is if you sit in the car often with it on - in my case, if my kids are sleeping in the car and I don't want to wake them up and need to stay in for a half an hour or something, its nice that you can sit with the heat or AC on with minimal intervention from the gas engine.

    Battery only depletes 12 KwH, and after it depletes it still has ability to partially recharge as you drive, at least if I am understanding this correctly... I saw a Cars.com test loop that said they used 2.6 gallons of gas and fully(or closely fully) depleted the electric battery... doing the math at $2.75 per gallon (as of June 2018) x 2.6 gallons and 11.5 cents per Kwh in Texas x 12 kWh, I calculate about 39 mpg on that trip... always count the money spent charging unless you get a lot of free charging.

    An electric engine convert about 59%-62% of the electrical energy from the grid to power at the wheels, while conventional gasoline vehicles only convert about 17%-21% of the energy stored in gasoline to power at the wheels. The energy lost was gone to the heat and sound generated. And gasoline engine is way worst in this aspect. Talking in US terminology, when an electric car draws 33.7 kWh of electricity from its batteries it has used the energy equivalent of one gallon of gasoline. For the actual number from EPA, 2017 Pacifica Hybrid has a equilvalent Highway Fuel Efficiency of 84 MPGe, while the regular V6 Pacifica is around 28 MPG. So, the more electric mode you use, you save more normally, but of course this also depending on how your electricity gets generated.

    I've reserved my pacifica hybrid on Dec 19th 2016 and so far chrystler has very poorly updated us on the ETA. latest update was a few days ago saying it would be ready for pickup end of Apr. I heard in many reviews about that engine kicking in for warm up, when it happened were you using the AC by any chance? i have a feeling it could be why since using a gas engine is more efficient then using a battery to create heat.

  • @anotherfourdays

    @anotherfourdays

    7 жыл бұрын

    it mainly because of weather AC only use little to no extra battery, but Heat kills a lot of batteries, I will say it takes 7 to 14 KWH for heat, so take 40% off the range if you are running on snowly winter with heat on 70F, and one thing I noticed on last trip to Reno NV, when i am pushing to much power like 80MPh + on Hybrid(ICE) mode we lost the heat, it feels cold, I guess the generator is not strong enough to recharge the battery and keep the heat running in high speed. Last month ICE kicked on the morning while I was in traffic but it was only for less than 30 seconds or less.

    +Nawh Yawl It depends where you live and how expensive your gas or electricity is. If you used a 240 volt charger. It's only a couple of hours and most places that have them are free. Why not plug it in while you're sleeping. Where I live, a charge from my house cost about a dollar.

    It's a 16-kwh battery. In the US it is about $0.12 per kwh, but prices are usually tiered and priced higher for higher consumption users. Typical household uses about 900 kwh of electricity. Charging this everyday to full would increase your electricity usage by about 50%, and maybe double your electricity bill due to increased usage. In the US the typical cost for a household is $72. So expect about $35~$70 increase in electricity depending on your situation. There are also ways to offset the cost. Electricity usage at night costs less. In the day if you have a sufficient solar panel system, it should be $0 in addition to the roughly $1000 per year cost of the panels. If your city pays for excess electricity from your solar panels, then it will be lower.

    The 80 MPG sounds great. However, most people forget about the cost of electricity to charge the batteries overnight. As I understand it, the Pacifica's batteries are 16 KW. If you drive 30 miles you'll fully deplete the batteries. Charging them back up for the next day will cost you 16 times whatever you're paying your electric company per KW hour. I'm paying 13 cents per KWH, so it would cost me $2.08 every time I recharge the fully depleted batteries. For comparison, driving 30 miles in the non-hybrid version of the Pacifica would cost around $3.00 at today's gasoline prices. Assuming I drive 30 miles every day of the year, I'm only saving around $365 in fuel costs. The Hybrid option appears to add over $10,000 to the cost of the car. Even with tax incentives, it would take me a decade or more to break even if I'm only saving a dollar a day. Or is my math fuzzy?????

    John Galt you are right but hybrid is more for people that do 100 plus mile a day if you are only using electricity its not a good car for you maybe a volt will be better or a Prius prime (i know they are not van but u get the point)

    I'm confused John, why does it cost more to charge at night? I always though utility companies charge less in the evenings due to less demand and never more if they charge a flat per KWh? Thanks.

    Yes, Gary, $7500 federal as long as your tax burden at end of year is at least that, plus some states. The math in the original post to this branch isn't quite right. I doubt the 16 kwh battery fully exhausts. Let's say you charge it 15 kWh @ $.13 for 33 miles. That's $1.95 for 33 miles. The car is rated on gas only at 32 mph, so to go 33 miles at national average $2.54 gas = $2.62 for 33 miles in this same hybrid vehicle on gas only. Not a big savings. But the regular pacifica is rated at 22 mpg, so to cover 33 miles is $3.81. So if you are going 15,000/year and never plug in the hybrid you still save $541/year. Savings are not great because frankly gas prices are very cheap right now and have been for years.

    Electricity will always be cheaper than gas. Oil might run out one day and then be a rare commodity. Electricity can be produced in many different ways. Even from inexhaustible means like solar, hydro or even geo thermal. And for a a price you can make your own with solar panels at home.

    I like that people who have probably not even test drove this for 15mins and get the notion that it the same thing that Chrysler is using the same technology from 1995. closed minded and unforgiving. " buy Honda ,buy Toyota vote trump". it's not a fair playing field when auto workers striking for more money ,making the maker cut corners and push crap .. oh well if everyone did the same thing, there wouldn't be any thing left to do. I had and have a 2011 200. v6. and a 2015, 200c v6 with self parking lane keep and the hid package for around 32k. No problems. for the last 3yrs of leasing turning it in this July.
