2018 Honda Odyssey vs 2017 Chrysler Pacifica
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
There’s no question that minivans offer the best combination of passenger and cargo space in the smallest package, but which minivan is the best in the segment?
Although the Chrysler Pacifica has been out for over a year now, people are still shocked by how big a leap it made from the Town & Country it replaced, becoming a luxurious option brimming with technology.
However, new minivans don’t come along every day, so we had to wait for a worthy competitor before we threw it into a comparison.
Well, that competitor has arrived, as Honda launched an entirely redesigned Odyssey this year, and it introduces a whole new infotainment system to go along with their usual refined, efficient drive and practical interior.

20,000 miles on our early built 2017 Pacifica Limited. It’s been a very solid and reliable vehicle so far. Before that we had a 2015 Odyssey Touring...also a good vehicle, but the Pacifica Limited offered soooooo much more. As for the new Odyssey, I like it, but I still feel it falls short to the Pacifica for tech and interior. Reliability, well I’m not gonna argue Honda’s reliability, but so far our Pacifica’s been great. Tri-pane pano roof, 20spkr HK audio, full range adaptive cruise, LED interior lighting, dual blu-ray screens....stuff like that ain’t gonna happen on the Odyssey.
I love how he is comparing a 2017 Pacifica and 2018 Odyssey. A whole lot changes in a year of a production car. I personally have owned two town and countries and one Pacifica and right now I'm driving my brothers 2017 Odyssey, for over two months. I am not going to bash the Honda, but if you want comfort and just that cool factor, I'll tell you that you wont get that from the Honda. It's a fantastically put together car and it does everything that it says it does. and it does it well, but when you buy a car for that much money you want something else that functionality cant buy. You sit higher int he Pacifica, you have more space, the front seats are so much more comfortable, the arm rest is just right, the leg room is better, the trim looks nicer, the cabin is so much more quieter, the stereo is louder, the bass is more thumpy, the ride is 100 times more comfortable and there so much more that you cant understand unless you owned both. It feels more like a car rather then a tin can. I don't know how else to put it. Its just so different to drive and be in. You really need to check it out, or just drive it and you''ll see what I mean.

Nope I will stick to Honda
Thank you for putting the Canadian as tested prices as well! That’s actually a huge help (since often the pricing in Canada isn’t just an exchange rate difference that would be easily calculated). Iwish all reviews did that.
that moment when, these vans are both faster than your 2013-2017 honda acoord/coupe v6.
I love the inside part of the Pacifica better. The rear seats, storage space is so much better than the odyssey.

Great review big guy
I would like to see this guy making the same comparison after 5 years of use. Reliability is the number one thing that someone should buy a Honda. To me it’s very annoying to go to mechanic to fix stuff even if it’s under warranty. Who has time for that ?
Our Pacifica is too low to the ground. In 6 months of ownership, we had to repair/replace 2 bumpers and these computerized air shutters that break off when you scrape the front bumper. Cost us over $2000.00 to fix both times. This last time the shutter thing rubbed through the air conditioning condensor-we have no air conditioning. Don't buy if you live in a hilly area! Or get a lift kit for it!
I can’t help it!! I like em both!!
Love my pacifica!!
Terrific review. Thx!
Very well done and I agree with you the pasifica is better well done and looks way better inside and outside 👍

I guess your video editor fell asleep at 3:45. The vehicle in the shot : Chrysler Pacifica Name given : 2018 Honda Odyssey. Awesome! 😂😂
@AutoGuide

The vehicle pictured is not wrong there, it's actually the caption that is wrong. Those are the fuel consumption ratings for the Pacifica (you can tell because even though the EPA ratings are the same 19/28/22 mpg for both vehicles, the Canadian rating for the Pacifica are slightly higher at 12.9/8.4/10.9 L/100 km). Sorry about that!
my parents own the Honda Odyssey and it has been a enjoyable ride for all of us and it is even better with all the upgrades we put in it.
Since families buy minivans, giving more credence to the stow and fold seats is pretty ignorant. Why? Because you will never fold your second row into the floor. Plus, those seats are not comfortable for adults on a long road trip. They are very thin given that they have to stow into the floor. And the most important test for most buyers is how easy is it to configure multiple car seats/booster seats in the car. Almost endless possibilities in the Odyssey where it's a pain in the Pacifica to have multiple options to configure the seats, but also just installing them. lastly, the Odyssey gives you an actual middle seat in the second row a grown adult can fit in.
In Ontario if you get the Pacifica plug in, you get a huge government incentive which brings he cost lower than even the odyssey. The plug ins come fully loaded. I’d go Pacifica

If you live in the city, or if your commute is not too long, maybe... But actually, with FCA reliability issues and their tendency to release technology way before it's reasonably reliable, I'm VERY skeptic about any of their products, especially one as expensive as a plug-in vehicle that will depreciate at FCA speed (fast fast fast).
@000OO0OOO0
6 жыл бұрын
The hybrid tech is mature. FCA made its first hybrid around 2008, IIRC. The depreciation is not as bad as it seems. It is calculated off MSRP and doesn't account for the discounts, which are quite sizeable for the gas version.
Definitely the Pacifica !
very detailed
my question is the following in the vehicle parts which is more effective over time ??
You lease a Pacific & buy an Odyssey. In the states a Pacific Plug In Hybrid is much cheaper if you make enough to milk the full Federal Tax Credit + any state incentives.
I don't drive but just watching the first part. The blind spot because of the pillars in the very back is gotta be ridiculous but then again blind spot monitoring does help I guess. The Pacifica
I don't know how you're coming up with 20mpg on the fuel economy in the Pacifica. I have the exact same vehicle/model and I regularly see 28mpg.
I’d go Pacifica! Though the Odyssey looks amazing.
7:39 Talking about the Odyssey, shows clip of the Pacifica driving by... 🤔
Pacifica all the way
Pacifica sounds nicely optioned and even has a better looking front end, in my humble opinion. But Honda is proven reliability. Pacifica at your own risk.

The Pacifica and Odysee are both ranked in the top ten to go over 200,000 miles. The difference is negligible. It is funny, nobody wants to admit Chrysler makes a good product, the Pentistar engine is reliable, powerful and lasts forever. The oddysee is known for bad transmissions, costly repair.

I like the Pacifica better but the Odyssey is better for resale and reliability. Also Chrysler should have kept Town & Country name.

Pacifica Seats are wonderful Maybe u should install in ur living room while it’s in dealership trying to figure out transmission slamming into second gear and the crankshaft that they did not balance properly which causes stalling while driving down road Software updates have fixed some issues however if u want to drive and put 100k in a year or to without problems I’d recommend Honda. I disagree with the pacifica's handling. I find it handles great! They tested the model with the 20" wheels and I have the 18" wheels and I found the 20" wheels made the pacifica handle worse in my eyes.
I would pick the Odyssey because my aunt got a Pilot a year ago to replace her ‘09 GMC Acadia, and so far, her Pilot has been very reliable, has not broken down, and now I know I can trust Honda, I hate Chrysler because my mom had an ‘08 Town & Country and when the AC broke she took it to the dealer to get that fixed and the service people dropped something in the engine which broke it, so she had to take it back to get a new engine installed for like $900, and there was always a problem with it, so it was a little unreliable, and before we sold it, we thought the engine was gonna blow again, but it didn’t, then my mom sold it and bought a brand new 2015 Prius, and that’s why I’d choose a Honda Odyssey over a Chrysler Pacifica
I've owned exclusively Hondas and Toyotas for the past 20 years (still have an accord). In the minivan lease market the Honda is waaaaaaaay overpriced. Go ahead and price a lease, they want over $600 a month with $2k down. We took the plunge on the Pacifica and left the brand, love it so far. Fit and finish on the Odyssey is behind the Pacifica and electronics absolutely suck in the odyssey compared to the Pacifica. Pacifica feels much more nimble too, Honda is clumsy and too large. Reliability remains to be seen, but I leased so not as worried. Honda probably wins there most likely, but we will see. BTW, the vacuum in the Pacifica actually works, and works REALLY well.
FCA needs to build a Hellcat Pacifica, then we'll talk.
I've tested both, I choose the Honda. Also anyone mentioning AWD in a minivan, Toyota didn't go 100% with it, you need run-flat tires (which cost more / have a more harsh ride and this all amplifies if you're going to consider snow tires....)

The Pacifica hybrid is the true star. After incentives it is cheaper than non-plug in version.
I wonder how many times the Chrysler will be in the shop before things like folding 2nd row chairs, the Hondas shifter design, and the fact that it is barely slower than the Chrysler.... well, at least with folding in the second row when it most certainly breaks down away from home, which it most certainly will, you'll have a little bigger area to rest or sleep while waiting for tow truck after tow truck....
The Audi RS3 (400bhp, 0-60 in 3.9 seconds) is ALSO rated at 19/28/22- same as the Pacifica. I'd have the Audi.
Around the way girl!!! 😂 I see you playa

Pacifica won against the Sienna in a separate comparison as well
Pacifica better looking and stow and go is the deal breaker, the mid seats might be a little more comfortable but I'll take the ability to store them in the floor
I don't trust the accuracy of the on-board computer when it comes the MPG. My '18 Civic is about 3 MPG optimistic compared to the good 'ol trip odo mileage divided by the gallons of gas.
Because the Honda has the middle seat on the 2nd row it has more capacity. If you were to use the minivan to carry teens and adults that middle seat comes in very handy. Something I never understood why FCA never added one in any of their past minivans.
@scottgardner2817
5 жыл бұрын
It's an option, but they don't offer the 8th seat AND the panoramic sunroof because there's nowhere to anchor the middle seat belt.
I have the pasifica!
I have a Accord and I love it but the oddesy is too ugly inside and out also the stow and go seating is a better in the pacifica, do you want to drag big heavy seats out and store someplace? Either one is a good choice if it fits what you need and like!
Hard to choose between them. Oddessy likely gets better reliability scores from CR but the Chrysler minivan is a pretty important market for them so I would think they want to get things right.
he's great
Your comparison doesn't take into account the fact that you can buy the Pacifica for much less than the sticker price. I purchased my Pacifica Limited with an MSRP of $49,200 for $40,400 in Arizona.
So glad to see American auto catching up to the Japanese.

I have twin toddlers and we love our 2017 Pacifica. I can watch them from a mirror right by the rear view mirror. We have a lot of space even for guests who want to ride with us. Once we had to add 2 more carseats...no problem! It looks so slick and with so much power it doesn't feel like I'm driving a van.
Chrysler vs Honda is this video really needed? There is no competition. Its would have something to talk about of Kia Sedona was reviewed with Honda
So what seat options are available? Many minivan buyers are actually senior citizens and they don't give a rats ass about bluetooth connectivity. Up to half of them have bad backs and this is especially so on a long drive. SO WHAT SEAT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
Wait for another 4-5 years and we will know if Chrysler have reliable enough minivan. It is not going to be as hard to kill as Sienna for sure. May be as reliable as Odyssey which has some serious problems too. Burning engine oil, broken transmission, etc.
So to get soft touch dash in the Pacifica, you have to spend 60k? I went to the dealership today, and was not terribly impressed with hard plastic dash that comes on lower trim level Pacifica. And that was 43k. Am sure its a nice driving van, but not for the money being asked for it.
Pacifica is the best minivan on the planet
nothing about ride quality over broken pavement? a lot of us live out in the sticks with busted up roads, so ride quality is an important consideration.
I have loved my 2018 Pacifica....but, just found out they have an engine failure at about 77,000 miles. Beware. Look it up
I didn't like the power folding 3rd row on the Pacifica. It's too slow. The manual folding seats are just fine, and much much quicker.
Have one goober already, twins on the way, why am I watching this? Ohh right, practically, because we need a minivan as no SUV offers sliding doors on both sides to get infant seats out let alone a 2 year old with SMA. I really like the Honda Odyssey, as does my significant other, with the easy to slide seats. What we don't like are the finance costs as we don't want to lease. Resale value would be good, not so with the Pacifica. When you don't want a minivan, but know you need one. Ugh.
Our 2016 Kia Sedona SX will use 12.5L/100km all city driving with a 3.3L and a 6-speed. It's a dream to drive and all optioned up the same as other brands, it was several thousand dollars cheaper. 67,000 km and our only complaint is the crappie infotainment system. There also appears to be a defect in the front drive axles as we are ready for the 5th pair. All under warranty and under investigation by Kia Canada. It's been a stellar vehicle and we don't regret the purchase.
Good luck
Lol I'm actually dead, he said the Pacifica is faster when Honda is pushing towards more sporty minivans. Then he said that car play and Android auto are not standard on the odessey the hell it's not get your crap together.😂
