Looks like a hot-side turbo, which doesn't require twin setup due to reverse flow through the V. Turbos are usually more efficient.

Audi realistically concedes that their cars, except for the R8 or maybe the TTRS, are not track cars. These are road-going rockets that will move you down the interstate or a back road, even in wet weather at a very rapid pace. To make the point, most auto manufacturers no longer provide manual transmissions because most folks don't buy them and most folks never get near a track for HPDE days. These cars are comfortable and capable of excellent pace, particularly in the US. The only real dual purpose, track/road car is Porsche. I previously owned a Cayman and it was track capable and a commuter too. My current S3 is likely as fast as this car and will leave most other cars waiting at the light. And with the conservative design, i.e. not boy racer, the Po Po don't take much notice.

one thing I hate is when "professional" car reviewers do no actual performance measuring themselves (0-60, 30-70, 1/4 mile times) but rely solely on published manufacturer data. please get a vbox (or even a cheack gps based qstarz timer like I have) and verify/validate these performance figures yourselves.

S Tronic cannot handle the torque, that’s why they fitted a TipTronic with a torque converter. Also, sitting half in half out of the rear seats and then recommending you buy as S6 or S8 is not a great review technique! I’m 6ft 2 and found rear seating to be fine based on my own front seat position. Watch Autogefuhl if you want an in depth S4 review 👍🏻

  • @daiyinglu

In New England, Audis are popular and dealers will not budge on the price. The 2017 340i is easily negotiable, AND can be had with a manual still! Sounds like the S4 has a similarly numb steering. IMO the 340i xDrive is a better valued alternative ... and because #Manuel.

Or, better yet, buy a clean, 2011 335xi sedan/coupe in a Manual, and be reminded how BMW used to have by FAR, the best steering and chassis dynamics in the industry and save your cash for any upgrades. Feeling the road and being one with the car is the most important thing if you're a True sports car guy.

Tim Flohr it's hard to say at this point. Other cars have similar systems though and don't seem to be big issues as far as I've heard. I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap out of warranty. I'm sure it's possible to replace it with a normal exhaust if it comes to that.

Austin Elwess Too bad the Cadillac has an awful interior. Que is so disappointing. I actually have lots of experience with it too. The squeaks and creaky interior is so annoying. We all sit in our interior 100% of the time while driving. Audi wins with no contest. Too many people are concerned with how fast a car is and forget about the whole package. This S4 can easily be tuned to a 10 second car.

This iteration of the S4 should not have some with a tip or ZF slushbox. What a complete and utter disappointment. You think they would have learned from the low desirability of the non PDK Porsches. I guess I'm sticking with 335/340 bmws..and I really wanted to move to Audi.

I can assure you the ZF8 is excellent in this car. I'm not sure if you've driven the new s4 and compared to a dual clutch, but the difference is hardly noticeable in reality. What ever they did to tune the zf8 for the s4 is excellent. Sure on paper dual clutch is more desirable and is 'modern tech', but once behind the wheel, I don't notice much difference. I owned a b8.5 A4, spent a week in the b9 A4 and now own a B9 S4.

I'm referring to the very conservative power bump over the years. Competitors in the price range all boast higher numbers.

PKF isn't Audi doing this so as to not have the S4 step on the toes of the RS? The B8/B8.5 could easily get 400hp with bolt ons and a tune

  • @p_kf

Yeah I'm sure you are right about that. However, I believe the same argument can be made about the RS, which competes directly with the C63s. Far greater performance per dollar in my opinion, but to each their own. Doubt the states will even see an RS4 for awhile. As far as the RS5 though, still 450 bhp even with a twin turbo 6? Just seems kind of odd to me given the last generation N/A V8 rated at the same (though I concede many say it was overrated from factory).

PKF the last RS4 was over rated IMO and Chris Harris proved that with only a Tune to his B8.5 S4. And I think Audi MIGHT bring the RS4 back to the states in order to compete with the Alpha Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

Something Nice On a 3 liter with no mods? Yes, it is a lot. 3 liter on a BMW gets you 320 hp and both are using a single twin scroll.

I'm sick and tired of people saying the current S4 is expensive, it's not. The base price of the 2001 S4 was $40K and with 2.5% inflation, it would be 58K now vs. the $52K base ($57K nicely equipped). If you want a better value, the Golf R would work but the S4 is quite a bit nicer.

My 2013 S5 stickered at 63k with decent options dual clutch, electronic rear diff, SUPERCHARGED v6 (great motor!) This new S4 and the S5 are turbos and there is no dual clutch...???? A supercharged engine is much more tractable in town with the awesome awd system in the older model it was a hoot. Audi went cheap on these imo. An RS5 with dual clutch and a 4.0 v8 dual turbos would be high on my list of cars right next to a Giulia Quadrifoglio.

354 hp is not that fast..compare to 450 hp or 500hp..somtimes the reviewer is exaggereted story..The 354 hp is just adequate power for that awd sport s4 sedan now a days thats normal power..
