The Volvo XC90 was supposed to be somewhere RM750k-800k with the specs Volvo Malaysia placed in. Thanks to being a locally assembled hybrid with engine capacity of 2.0 or below, the XC90 is now only priced at RM400k. Just think about it, if the Range Rover is tax free, it should be RM500k instead of RM1 million.

    Hey Bobby, always enjoy your engaging and consistent video's and Facebook content since coming to Malaysia. Just one question on the underpowered statement. What was the test, load and atmospheric conditions during those tester's reviews? Malaysia has tropical moist conditions with lowish altitude pressures which car's love (except the heat). I come from a seasonal country with varying climates and altitude pressures and we have vastly different performance conditions based on where a car is being driven. Just trying to understand the perspective basis... 🙃

  • @BobbyAngmalaysia

    @BobbyAngmalaysia

    7 жыл бұрын

    +Yeu Uei Choo yes, just like a docking station for electronic devices, it's recommended to keep it charged everyday when you parked back at home. Because plug in hybrids can provide exceptional fuel economy if they're always charged. The on board charger will only charge the car up to 30% max. Because its primary objective is to save fuel, but if volvo allows you to charge the car fully using petrol, it will defeat the purpose of saving petrol at the first place.

    Hi Bobby, enjoying the review so far. My question/comment has to do with the ride quality you mentioned a number of times. Do you know if the model you tested has the 4 corner air suspension option ? The reason I ask is many of the reviews I have read & watched mention that the 4 corner air suspension is recommended as the ride quality is greatly improved, I can attest to this when test-driving an xc60 model, one without & one with air suspension. Please advise. Respectfully Julian

  • @BobbyAngmalaysia

    @BobbyAngmalaysia

    5 жыл бұрын

    The ride quality is exceptional. But air suspension wont be able to calculate fast enough and react to small bumps. You can try going past small humps in parking lots (the annoying type). Mine was worse last time, after spftware updates, it improved slightly.

    Hi bobby, wanna ask you smtg. This car's front wheels driven by a combustion engine and the rear by electric motors rite ? Will this car stay awd even after the battery is depleated or it'll become fwd ?

  • @BobbyAngmalaysia

    @BobbyAngmalaysia

    6 жыл бұрын

    +neressh if there's no need for AWD the car will just be FWD. Only when it senses it then it will be needed. And most of the time, traction losses are fraction of the time, and at that moment if its transferred, there's no further need other than burning more petrol for most full time all wheel drives.

    I know what happened - he never bothered to charge it. The car needs to be charged like your mobile phone needs to be charged. When the car is stationery, it uses the onboard power to air conditioned its own battery to protect it. So not charging it for extended periods is like not filling in fuel.

    Hi Damien, Let's throw a few things out of the box. Volvo don't have the dealer network of BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda etc. They are very small when compared to the others, but I can tell you, I've met some of the most passionate people in Volvo Malaysia. But of course, you'll be dealing with dealers, not the people that I met, but nevertheless, we can feel their enthusiasm, their spirit of wanting to go all out for customers, to let people know they've put in 200% of their know how in creating their new model lineups. I was really worried 3 years ago when i learned that Volvo will be embarking on a 2.0 litre twin charge engine and taking out the prop shaft in their flagship XC90, replace it with a battery, and combined an electric motor and internal combustion engine to be a 4WD SUV. Madness, and one that usually becomes something that invited huge problems. Because they're going, new engine, new transmission, new in-car systems, new architecture, new softwares, new infrastructure, new platforms - everything new, aside from the logo, there's basically no usable legacy (apart from safety) that they can fall back on. But that was end 2014, and by now, I'm happy to tell you, given our eyes and ears in this line, we've yet to hear big issues or failures of any sort from the XC90. Minor hiccups aside, I can say there seems to be no major problems. Moreover, amongst every country in the world, i have to say we might just be the luckiest ones to buy any of Volvo's T8 hybrid flagship XC90s, because the R&D Chief who's in charged of this Hybrid system, Mr Lennart Stegland, is currently the Country Managing Director for Volvo in Malaysia. And he knows his shit. :)

    Bobby Ang after about 6 months, my dad just realised that 1 of this his xc90 tyres was patched. Means, he was given a brand new car with a old tyre. How absurd. Wrn complaint was made to the dealer, the sale girl even implied this was a sabotage. Come on la, over a tyre? Anyway, any idea who should i address this to? As the dealer said HQ isnt taking responsibility. I notice that the tyre has "serial code" or something, i believe it is traceable … Dealership is from Penang: ir*ll auto

    Please get the 328i GT! That is a fantastic car! Handles better than any SUV given that it's a sedan platform, but it has the ride height of roughly a HRV, which gives it great clearance and a heighten seating position easy for ingress and egress. It also has huge legroom and a ginormous boot! Also, it has an electric spoiler that you can raise or lower to say thank you to the car behind that lets you merge. :)

    Bobby, I really interested in this car, but I have one question. What is the mileage for every service interval? 10k? 12k? 15k? Or more? Assume I drive this car in the city and most of the time I use the electric motor, can I drive further before I bring it to service? Does it mean this kind of car need less maintenance? Correct me if I'm wrong😂haha

  • @BobbyAngmalaysia

    @BobbyAngmalaysia

    7 жыл бұрын

    +WJ Low hi! Technically you are correct, but service interval isn't necessarily related to mechanical oil changes and all, it's similar to you having a mountain bike, but after 2-3 outings you bring your bike back to the shop to check on nuts and bolts, calibration, alignment etc. For the XC90, the service intervals are 20,000km. One of the longest, most tahan in the industry.

    Hey Bobby, Currently struggling to decide which one will do me better in KL , the XC90 2017 model or the X5 40e. I am worried and was reading some quality problems of the electronics as well as the build quality of the high class material used. Also was hearing that the air-suspension seem to be not as well made and gives users some headache ? Further to this I am a little concerned on the resale value after let’s say 3 years when I want to trade it in for something else. Could you give me some input on it ?

    Your review is superb. Volvo Malaysia sold it very expensive at RM403,888 without free servicing just like you buy Mercedes. BMW X5 is giving 5 years free servicing and booking is unknown when the delivery date is! Whereas for Volvo, you can get one on tomorrow.! Indeed, I couldn't believe that this XC90 is selling more expensive than BMW X5. It looks like Volvo is getting greedy!

  • @chuakz

    I think in other markets Volvo XC90 T8 is actually more expensive than the equivalent X5, plus there is more room in the Volvo, more seats, more power, better quality. I had hoped they would price it below 400k but then business is business. I still think it's the best luxury 7 seat SUV in Malaysia to buy.

    Ho bobby, I'm in a little dilemma now trying to figure out which to get, the xc 90 or the x5 hybrid, I've driven both cars and they've got their own individual characters that I like about (both of them!) . If you were in my shoes with price not being an option at all which one would go for?

    +adrian schmitter the XC90 for me. The way it looks, both inside and out. It doesn't loose out a lot in the way it handles, except maybe the X5 is more pliant. But overall, the XC90 feels 10 years ahead of its rivals. Add to the fact that it seats 7.

    +adrian schmitter dont mention. :) to add, BMW's iDrive is to die for. Best infotainment system out there. But the X5 is due for replacement 2018.

    Bobby Ang oh great, back to the drawing board. I really dig the new I drive with the concierge service, also the apps that are available for the bmw's. Does the sensus infotainment system have a decent sound system and have apps like Spotify / etc. I know there are many ways to manipulate the idrive, like dvd in motion, mirror link, etc... Which i'm not sure that can be done with the sensus

    Me too, I have no idea. It's a very nice start for Sensus, but it's by far not as polished as the iDrive. But it seems highly customisable, just that I have no idea about what you just mentioned.

    was trying out my brother's xc90 the other day. noticed a coupla things i didn't like. #1, body roll #2 really loud AC blower (even with lowest level). Apart from its power, i find my new Mazda cx9 rides better than the xc90. Oh, and the suspension, i found it not as well tuned, kinda neither here nor there.

    what happen if batery is empty? does it affect the car?

  • @BobbyAngmalaysia

    +Nor Amira this car is designed to reduce your reliance on petrol. If you drive less than 35km a day, it is designed to try its best to not use petrol. So you have to think of it as the petrol engine backing up the electric motor instead of electric motor backing up the engine. So if you do not charge it at all, its just like your smartphone. Until a certain level that you do not want to charge it (same as not wanting to refuel your car) it will not move. At all. Fair logic i guess. The transition from petrol to electric needs everyone to acknowledge the fact that we have to charge them just like our phones

    +Nor Amira technically yes, but you have to charge it as well as the car need some form of charge to keep the battery temperature low

    Bobby Ang kalau perjalanan jauh contohnya bercuti atau balik kg bateri semestinya akan low dan tiada tempat untuk dicas. Adakah kereta boleh berjalan seperti biasa? Mcm normal car yg lain.

    So basically volvo removed mechanical power transfer to the rear wheel while relying solely on electronics (sensors, electric motors and switch boards). Not really a fan of this idea. IMHO BMW's hybrid drive train is better.

    +Lemtem Poktui only to the rear wheels where they're powered by the electric motor. This design is ingenious because the center tunnel can then house the batteries, giving ideal weight distribution and protection to the batteries as well as a low centre gravity

    Bobby Ang Yes but then you're relying solely on electronics to power the rear wheel. I could be wrong but a prop shaft and differential combination is more reliable than a few electronics mashed together. Time will tell though.

    +Lemtem Poktui actually even mechanical differentials have actuators and our entire car has is a giant mixture of electronics and mechanical interaction ... so i have little to doubt more or less of which moves the car. :)
